Indeed.  The best Elk hunting is over by Wendover near the Utah border, which, yes, is a big area, and NO, I'm not narrowing it down any further than that :).

Also if you've been there then you are indeed one of the few and the proud :).

02/21/2019 - 9:48pm I don't mind at all.  I…

I don't mind at all.  I currently live in Nashville, TN after a long stint in Ann Arbor/Saline but grew up in a small town in the Northeast Corner of Nevada called Elko.

02/21/2019 - 2:50pm From Nevada and talking…

From Nevada and talking about how people colloquially refer to it dude.  But sure enjoy your little google search victory with no contextual knowledge, it makes you sound smart...really...I promise.

Yes, when using acronyms it turns to UNR usually due to the UNR/UNLV split, but when talking sports teams it's just Nevada.

02/21/2019 - 2:45pm Agree to disagree on run out…

Agree to disagree on run out of the gym vs. Penn St.  to me, the score at the end looked a lot better than the game.

Sure the analytics can and do have Michigan well above Nevada and at the end of the day that's what's going to push the tournament seeding.  But when it comes to the polls, Nevada is a good team and doing what they're supposed to do.  One would argue that in losing to a sub-.500 team Michigan did not do what they were supposed to do.  What are the poll voters supposed to do in this case?  I just greatly dislike the "If X played in the B1G, they'd be crap."  We don;t know that, all we know is what that team has done given the constraints it operates under.  Even then when those teams get a win, people like John U. Bacon shift the goalposts.  Nevada did what it was supposed to do until last night, the polls will shift the way you want them to and all is well at the ned of the day.  I just never understood the sturm and drang about who deserved to go where in the rankings.

02/21/2019 - 10:37am Nope, just Nevada as it's…

Nope, just Nevada as it's the main campus of the University of Nevada system.

The Nevada-Reno bit is basically jealous UNLV folks trying to claim they're the flagship school.  It'd be a little like referring to Michigan as Michigan-Ann Arbor.

02/21/2019 - 10:35am Which would still make them…

Which would still make them one of the best teams in the country.

02/21/2019 - 10:34am I HATE this argument,  Let's…

I HATE this argument,  Let's see what Nevada does in the tournament first before we talk about what Penn St. would or would not do to them.  Nevada took down a three PAC-12 teams at the start of the year and has generally torn apart the MWC.  They're a good team that has been susceptible to a couple of off nights(it's almost as if they play basketball or something and are subject to the same things that happen to every team).  Should they have been ranked above Michigan?  Maybe, maybe not, but they started off the season well, have performed to expectations, and had only lost one game before what happened against SDSU.  Michigan was just coming off getting run out of they gym by a below .500 team.  Why waste energy on saying that is or is not inexplicable?

I don't know..... a lot of effort went into maintaining that lie and in lying to a whole bunch of people.  There's a certain multiplication principle involved on this.

Honestly, I remembered the story and not the name and I am sure thats the way it is for 99.9999999% of the country.

02/15/2019 - 10:22am My exact thoughts.  There is…

My exact thoughts.  There is just too much of the story yet to be written here.

02/14/2019 - 4:36pm Oregon fans and players are…

Oregon players are NOT happy about this according to twitter.  Apparently Leavitt is seen as one of the few coaches on staff and not just a slick recruiter in Oregon gear.  Fans are split on it as there were rumors of tension between Leavitt and Christobal and Leavitt interviewed for some head coaching positions this offseason.  Going to be interesting to watch this year play out in Eugene as I don't know that they should be that excited about Hayward taking over as DC.

02/14/2019 - 10:58am I was going to link to this…

I was going to link to this story as well.  The best part was the Nevada coaches wondering how the hell they missed on the kid when they first heard the story and then reviewed the camp files and figured something had to be up.

I still wonder how that guy thought anything about this would end well.

02/14/2019 - 9:44am And a reminder to your…

And a reminder to your reminder that recruiting rankings WORK in aggregate.  So they mean exactly what they're supposed to mean, but aren't magic bullets.

Sorry, been arguing this for weeks on a UCLA fan site and am pre-disposed to pushback.

02/13/2019 - 5:57pm So our DLine getting stoned…

So our DLine getting stoned was the reason we lost the game?

Thought we all already knew this and are already panicking about this for next year?

It's like saying Bloody Mary into the mirror.

02/11/2019 - 6:06pm Still think they should try…

Still think they should try Michael Barrett there.

02/11/2019 - 2:42pm Not sure I like this…

Not sure I like this precedent.  He already got punished and I am sure has had to deal with plenty of diversionary programs, why, exactly, would the Browns be piling on with the rest of the stuff you are advocating.

How about he never be allowed to be around a woman again.  Female relatives, he can maybe apply for a waiver.  Does that seem fair?

02/11/2019 - 1:52pm Given the Running Back depth…

Given the Running Back depth chart, why aren't we talking about Michael Barrett there?

IIRC he was an option QB in High School and that seems to translate to running back the best it seems to me.

I am sure there is some info I am missing but this feels like a potential solve.

It's a reference to the fact that Wisconsin players are all the same person year after year, down to their buzzcuts.

02/07/2019 - 3:46pm I remember being irritated…

I remember being irritated about Alric Jackson, but only in terms of missing out on a tackle shaped human in the 2016 class.  I wasn't in love with the high school film.  Goes to show you A) what I know(nothing, like Jon Snow). and B) what good coaching and fitting into the right system can do.

02/07/2019 - 1:41pm I think there was a little…

I think there was a little of both in there, but it may be because I was annoyed at the MSU fan-girling.

The Ike news lends strength to the qualification concern rumors.

With Jones, good job by Ohio State going out and grabbing a developmental prospect.  Just wish someone else could have beaten them to the punch.

Damn, sucks!  Hope he can make it back onto the team and get things back in order.

To ask the obvious: Any running backs in the grad transfer portal?

The guy who's already started to come in for some of the blame.  Harbaugh.

Wow!  Good for him!

02/05/2019 - 8:53am Exactly correct, even at…

Exactly correct, even at UCLA where Chip Kelly SPECTACULARLY shot himself in the foot with an incredibly stupid(or charitably described: overly patient) recruiting strategy and needed to sign a bunch of kids in February. There have been almost no recruits that were really available and those that were were either mostly USC fanboys waiting out the chaos there or major projects that a ton of schools were fighting over.

Result UCLA goes into next season needing to pick up something like 9 guys in the transfer portal to even get up to 85 scholarships.  The lesson is that the real signing day has shifted to December, kind of like how it has in Basketball.  It happened quickly, but with the way recruiting is emphasized, not much of a surprise.

I at least have reason to believe Magnus has insider information.

With Maizen, it's just panic and run around screaming.

Agree with XM here, it's time to see some links if you're going to flat contradict Magnus.

02/04/2019 - 2:16pm Because the comments about…

Because the comments about Michigan in this article tend to be the same from year to year regardless of coaching staff, which leads me to believe there's something else giving the responses the edge we all noticed vs. anything the staff is either doing or not doing.

As I mentioned earlier I do think there needs to be a bit of a step by step rebuilding relationships tour, but you have to wonder how much of this is born of the Overton window for acceptable comments for these guys getting shifted by Sparty's relentless negative recruiting.

You're right about not having any way to know what someone's experience is and I could have phrased my comeback a little better.  I think sometimes you assume things that are fairly common knowledge here(such as what a 360 evaluation is) aren't and then pull somewhat of a humblebrag in explaining your point of view.  That said, I came off as a jerk in my reply to you and I apologize.

The sky is falling bit is a bit of hyperbole, admittedly, but I do think you're making a little too much of this.

02/04/2019 - 1:43pm Thank you for explaining to…

Thank you for explaining to me how employee evaluations work after twenty years of working experience I was totally confused on that point, although frankly, if you take the negative 360 evaluations of a manager into account absent any other input, rather than use them to add weight to a negative top down evaluation, you will be the very first in the history of corporate evaluations to do so.

I don't think anyone's thrilled by these, I just happen to think it's almost always the same types of quotes in relation to the two programs year after year.  The one time it seemed a little different was Hoke's first year.

Definitely think a structured reachout in-state is necessary, but I am not sure this means the sky is falling.

02/04/2019 - 12:33pm The top prospects in state…

The top prospects in state were two HUGE Michigan State fans apparently.  Logan Brown basically got Drevno'd and that problem has been fixed.  As for the rest:  Dixon just seemed to want to go out of state, Bradford was apparently a non-football thing, Ruke O. seemed like he wanted to blaze his own path(and a Clemson offer for a defensive lineman is going to turn heads), I then saw a LONG list of guys who weren't offered and the guy they really needed to get(Mazi Smith) they got.

So yeah, I'm calling it a weird year for in-state recruiting and I admit it was TERRIBLE timing for it to be a weird year for in-state recruiting, but weirdly sometimes you have bad luck.

Also let's be realistic, Michigan isn't getting the top players in Ohio for AT LEAST the next four or five years, no matter what they do and on field results are going to determine what happens after the next four or five years.  If you have the expectation that Michigan is getting anyone out of Ohio that Ohio State wants as a plan A kid, you're going to be disappointed.

I have no idea why I'm debating you on this, maybe I have a foolish hope something will calm your hysteria.

The reason you cited is the most prevalent rumor.

02/04/2019 - 12:23pm Doesn't it seem like it's…

Doesn't it seem like it's the way these articles always go?  No matter the coaching staff and even in years where the team does well in state?

To me, it's more, there are good reasons to choose somewhere besides Michigan St., but I have to come up with a reason why I wouldn't choose to go to the big in-state school.  I agree it's a concern, but I don;t think it has to do with the coaching staff as much as the weird in state dynamics here.  They do need a designated Detroit-whisperer, though, maybe Sherrone Moore?

02/04/2019 - 12:19pm It was a weird year for in…

It was a weird year for in-state recruiting.  I didn't get any RichRod at the tail end of his time vibes, just more weird reasons why there were a lot of uphill battles vibes.

02/04/2019 - 12:17pm Barnett's was the only one I…

Barnett's was the only one I thought was a little too on the nose as far as manufacturing a chip on the shoulder.  Otherwise, yeah, it's a personal decision for everyone involved.

02/04/2019 - 12:16pm Seems like the usual…

Seems like the usual comments that get made every year by the kids who didn't pick Michigan.  You have kids who either grew up in anti-Michigan households or were told they were further down the board, or in the case of Brown had their recruitment flubbed by Drevno.  Given the three hires the program just made, in-state recruiting will get back on track and you will find the new thing to wring your hands about.

02/04/2019 - 11:53am Damn!  Thought he could…

Damn!  Thought he could really develop into something.  Sucks for him to have this happen, apparently at such a late hour, but I am sure he'll find a good landing spot.  Still not my favorite decision making process.

01/29/2019 - 3:23pm I absolutely agree, I miss…

I absolutely agree, I miss Michigan summer a great deal when I am sweating for just standing outside in the Tennessee Summer.  But then I remember I can wear shorts unironically in March and I get over it pretty quickly.

Honestly when I lived in Michigan, it wasn't real winter that got to me, but still winter in April and May that got old.

01/27/2019 - 7:02pm Some think the game is just…

Some think the game is just as entertaining others find it a boring version of touch football.  I imagine the latter heavily outweigh the former.

Also, evolve or die isn't exactly a great argument.

01/23/2019 - 6:06pm 1.  '96 GMC Sonoma with…

1.  '96 GMC Sonoma with manual transmission and 4WD, there was absolutely nowhere that little truck couldn't go when in 4Low, I drove out of two foot deep snow in it once and the little sucker didn't even blink.

2.  My wildest trip on Black Ice was on my way to the Detroit airport on 94 East from AA.  It was five in the morning, I was at the big curve in the road right around where that Wiards billboard is and there was a truck crashed on the left side of the road with an ambulance sitting right there.  Seeing this in the distance I gently tap the brakes to slow down so that I can move lanes over and give the ambulance space.  I IMMEDIATELY start sliding on the road and start drifting over to the highway dividers at a high rate of speed, I am also looking directly at the back of the ambulance and realizing that the bumper of the ambulance was about eye level with me.  Luckily once I get over to the side of the highway the wheels grip and I am able to control the car and drive it through the gap between the ambulance and the crashed truck.  THANK GOD no first responders were in the way at the time as I don;t know if I could have stopped or slowed down in time.  I finished the trip to the airport with my heart racing and decided it was time to look for a new job as one of the more prominent thoughts I had after it was all over was...."Well if it had gone badly, at least I wouldn't have to go back to that project."

01/17/2019 - 11:47am 1. Don't know about Subaru…

1. Don't know about Subaru in specific, but I assume any car making it's way onto the road is probably going to be pretty decent.

2. Your situation and needs are probably going to be a bit different than what many of the people here are used to.  Growing up in a rural area, a BEATER truck with AWD or 4WD is probably what your first time drivers need.  They need to be able to get out of trouble and in something you don't mind getting beaten up.  I had an '81 GMC Sierra and while that truck was.....eccentric, it could go anywhere and was great for the situations I was in driving out of town for camping/hunting/scout projects/etc.  Just my two cents.  I think the car you're looking at is fine, but I do think you have to filter it through what your family's needs are and how your new drivers fit into them.  Vs. just what the first time drivers need.
