I am sure the coaches are used to combating negative recruiting as they're going up against Penn State for a lot of players.

I think George Johnson III is committing tomorrow too. He's waiting until 7PM, so Turner will probably be next.

06/24/2018 - 5:55pm Harding stayed committed to…

Harding stayed committed to Harbaugh, but every recruiting insider said he wouldn't be part of the class. Harbaugh couldn't publicly rescind the offer, so it was up to Harding to announce what he was going to do whenever he was ready.

Harbaugh was rightly criticized for accepting commitments, then pulling the offers. He stopped that practice shortly after the 2016 class was signed.

I'd bet it's someone a fair amount shorter than the 6'11" McDaniel.

Common in the corporate world or not, it seems completely inappropriate in this context. A public institution using it to shield itself from a government investigation.

Assuming Carton is on board, we're slated to have 4 PGs on the roster in 2019.  That situation will be sorted out before Jackson would arrive.

Our dud RBs would have looked better running behind Wisconsin's OL.

Sam Webb said this morning that academics are really big for Warren, it's not the typical lip service. I'd guess that's what his MSU comments are about.

06/16/2018 - 8:57am Ease up there buddy. The…

Ease up there buddy. The navigation of this site is different than the old one and it's easy to miss posts. And while Seth is doing a good job of responding in that thread, how long did they wait to initiate a dialogue? It seemed like a long time coming and only in response to posters creating related threads.

06/15/2018 - 3:09pm My guess is that they won't…

My guess is that they won't do any of that. They will either think they can attract someone with extra $$ or settle for a candidate with thin credentials. Probably an outsider though.

06/15/2018 - 3:06pm Hiring an outsider is a part…

Hiring an outsider is a part of what MSU needs to do. Why would I take that job if I was a qualified candidate? That's the answer they need to figure out first.

My first step would be limit the search to outside candidates. Second would be a commitment to replacing all administrators that are MSU grads. Third would be a commitment to hiring no more of their grads to teaching positions. Do those things and then they should be able to do a national search and hire a a highly qualified president.

Otherwise, who wants to work for a clown show board at a troubled and unusually inbred institution? They'd be like the outsider in a family business.

06/14/2018 - 8:25pm Could you remind us how many…

Could you remind us how many walkons are allowed?

I always thought the answer was as many as you wanted. There are only limitations on how many can practice in fall camp.

06/13/2018 - 9:59pm You just answered your own…

You just answered your own question.

They're not likely to play pro football. Getting that degree is important.

Here's a few more reasons.

Being buried on the depth chart doesn't mean they have giving up on earning playing time either. Transferring a year before you're eligible to play is worse than doing a grad transfer in terms of finding the right fit. Things can change during that year you sit out. While learning the system early is important for QBs, how important is it RBs or a bunch of other positions? Generally speaking, players that grad transfer from Michigan play big roles at their new school..

Players one year away from graduating have good reason to stick it out and do a grad transfer rather than leave immediately.

Nursing is a tough major to fit into an athlete's schedule. Best of luck to Ethan.

06/10/2018 - 6:25pm Your house analogy made me…

Your house analogy made me think of an old Simpsons episode where the Flanders house was destroyed. The townspeople got together and rebuilt it for them. As much as Flanders wanted to be thankful for the kind gesture, the work was so slipshod and poorly thought out, he finally lashed out. His neighbors were taken aback, because they really felt entitled to be applauded for their "good intentions".

Of course MGoBlog wasn't really broken. It had a few minor issues that didn't really bother me. I bet a large majority of users would promise Brian never to complain about 2.0 if it were restored.

06/09/2018 - 2:56pm He said KD took the easy way…

He said KD took the easy way to get a championship. I don't think anyone disputes that. It's not a knock on GS.

06/09/2018 - 2:42pm I don't have much to add to…

I don't have much to add to the specific complaints raised by the OP and a few others. One thing Brad said rang true for me. I spend too much time here, this update has given me the push I needed to spend less.

To me what's most disappointing isn't the number of flaws in the redesign. I expect they will eventually get addressed. We'll come to appreciate some new features and put up with remaining annoyances. It's more the attitude of the people in charge. At the very least, they should be doing this, not the OP. They should have put out FAQs about the changes. Instead I sense an overwhelming smugness. Sorry, but I do.

It started with the rollout of the joke site. I'm (again) sorry, that wasn't clever, it was idiotic. It still pops up for people visiting the site. They are either motivated enough to find out what's going on or just give up because it's not that important to them. It's one way to weed out your users. Maybe that attitude could be justified if the upgrade was truly amazing. They must have thought it was, but I can't help but wonder why.

Probably, although that's a position group that uses a lot of players. Considering how many DEs we are still in on, I wouldn't be surprised to see this spot used for one extra.

06/08/2018 - 7:33pm I'm still trying to figure…

I'm still trying to figure what's better about this site design. I'm sure i'll find something, but for now, it just seems clearly worse in multiple ways. Ironic, given the relaunch started with a joke about making it worse.

06/04/2018 - 8:32am Isn't that why he got fired at Florida?

If you're going to insist on making that tired old joke, why not add something to it?

06/03/2018 - 4:11pm Getting familiar with another curriculum is a disadvantage,

as opposed to finishing his degree at Michigan.

06/03/2018 - 4:07pm Grad transfers have generally been able to go where they wanted.

Beilein gave up blocking Biefeldt and Albrect from Big Ten schools. It's not yet a rule, but coaches trying to limit grad transfers have gotten a lot of bad press.

06/02/2018 - 9:33pm Jaren Jackson is probably going to play the 5 in the NBA.

Izzo was putting his best players out of position because he overrecruited 4s and 5s. As he does.

06/02/2018 - 9:33pm Jaren Jackson is probably going to play the 5 in the NBA.

Izzo was putting his best players out of position because he overrecruited 4s and 5s. As he does.

06/02/2018 - 9:22pm How has Pep Hamilton's role been reduced?

It looks more like the opposite may be true with Drevno's departure. A departure brought on by his unwillingness to cede OC duties.

06/02/2018 - 8:17pm You do realize these kind of bets are based on perceived

ceilings? It's reasonable to believe that Michigan has a very high ceiling, having addressed all of the major issues from last season.

If Patterson provides dynamic QB play, talented WRs improve due to experience and a dedicated top flight position coach and the changes to coaching the OL pay off, Michigan has a decent chance of being a top 4 team. If they don't, Wisconsin, PSU and MSU might all be better. Doesn't follow that they would be playoff caliber teams.

06/02/2018 - 4:24pm I'm curious how he can go back to a two year CC.

He's in his third season. To be eligible to transfer back to another four year school, he has to be making adequate progress towards a degree. It's hard to see how he can accomplish that in JUCO.

06/02/2018 - 4:20pm Not just BTN.

A bunch of posters here were enamored with Vic's abilities and talked up the transfer as a big deal for Minnesota.

Who would he have been starting over on our defense last year? Seems our posters aren't done hyping him up.

06/02/2018 - 11:35am Yes, he did something really annoying as a stunt.

06/01/2018 - 6:32pm It's true that Vince Marrow is an excellent recruiter,

but he's not recruiting the state of Michigan. That would be Steve Clinkscale.

06/01/2018 - 10:11am Sam mentioned Mazi on his show this morning.

Paraphrasing, he called Michigan his far, runaway leader.

05/31/2018 - 2:43pm Not quite. We're one under the limit now,

so there would still be room for Moe. I agree with your assessment of where we're at for the 2019 class.

Beilein made the change a few years back. People were speculating that Davis might have to take a prep year to fit everyone from 2016 in.  2018 was the first class where he didn't have that to fall back on.

05/31/2018 - 11:17am Those numbers illustrate how unimportant class

rankings are in basketball. There's so much variation in class size that there's no good way to account for it.

Beilein is recruiting a lot of top 100 players for the potential third opening. It's going to be one of his best classes.

05/30/2018 - 7:19pm Livers is officially listed at 6'7".

There's one outlier listing Wilson at 6'6". Even a year ago, he was mostly listed at 6'7". He could well be the 6'8" another site has him at now. The weight you're using is probably not reliable either. He looked a lot heavier in his commitment video. :)

05/30/2018 - 1:11pm 10 to 1 that Izzo's name was only linked to the Orlando job

to make the owners happy. He wasn't a serious candidate. I doubt he's getting his first NBA job in his mid 60s.

05/30/2018 - 10:31am Looking at it from an anti-MSU, anti-Izzo perspective,

it does matter. Sure, Beilein may beat him regularly no matter who Izzo signs. But I wouldn't mind the rest of the league beating him more often too. Having that translate into Izzo being less competition on the recruiting trail would be a bonus.

05/28/2018 - 8:56pm We don't know his financial situation.

But being a PWO helped him get into Michigan. Financial aid is available. He was only offered a couple of scholarships. Choosing one of those schools to save money is not a decision everyone should make.

05/28/2018 - 11:46am Jordan Kovacs played 3 seasons in the NFL.

05/28/2018 - 11:41am A clue that they were talking about Hayes and

not the walkon. The walkon is not a potential OT. He's a guard.

05/27/2018 - 5:04pm He recruited Graham Glasgow to OSU.

Lucky for us, he couldn't hold on to him. He ended up being the biggest recruiting flip for Michigan in many years, despite being a PWO.

05/26/2018 - 9:50pm My garden has gotten too big. I may not finish planting

it all this year. I have tomatoes, (mostly yellow pear and cherry), peppers, kohlrabi, cilantro, beets, daikons, radishes, chard and lots of gooseberries and strawberries. And a neighbor who brings over lots of things I don't grow. He more than makes up for what the rabbits take.

05/25/2018 - 8:34pm He lost the last two seasons to injury.

Two more years of eligibility is likely, but not assured.

05/25/2018 - 8:32pm One of those 2016 WRs was Brad Hawkins

who ended up as part of that awesome 2017 WR class.

05/25/2018 - 4:22pm Calling out people every time they call a recruit underrated

or some such thing is both dumb and annoying.

Sure, some posts are overly optimistic. The WRs is a good example. But some of those optimistic posts have been proven to be correct. Instead of disagreeing with the ones you find outlandish, you have been attacking nearly every optimistic take and lumping in everyone else with the poster you criticise. That's trolling, my friend.

05/25/2018 - 4:06pm You're a troll, not because you're a Sparty in disguise.

But because you're a miserable fan who's always pointing out any negative you can think of. And because you come across as somehow believing that makes you superior to others because yo're more objective.

As far as I can tell, you are neither.

Always looking for a positive spin is no more or less objective than what you do, but those people are a hell of lot more peasant to be around. And many here who don't like your posts aren't in that group.

05/25/2018 - 9:07am Much of December was filled with talk of a lot of candidates,

people in the media calling Michigan a mess and deep skepticism that we even had a shot at Harbaugh.

Even after Jim was hired, it was January 6 before he hired Durkin, a couple more weeks before his staff was complete. He wasn't recruiting EE candidates. His first commitment came around the end of January.

05/24/2018 - 9:04pm Yes, a redshirt junior who graduated early like Alex Malzone

05/24/2018 - 8:04pm I'm skeptical that article was accurate.

First off, that sounds like a ton to give up for the #9 pick. Then we have to believe that multiple teams turned it down and rely on vague information like up to four 1st round picks. I'm not sure what that means.
