...and even small-time recruits, once they have 3-4 years of college football under their belts, can become pretty good.

02/19/2019 - 3:04pm Yes.

Yes.

02/19/2019 - 11:42am I can see that. I did watch…

I can see that. I did watch some of his basketball highlights, and there's a lot of explosiveness (like you said) but there isn't much ball handling, passing, shooting, etc. It's dunks and blocks. And when you're 6'2" or 6'3" with power forward skills, you're probably better off pursuing another sport.

Like I said, I think he has the potential in football to be pretty dynamic, because his body is going to fill out. He could be a WR, S, or OLB at the next level.

02/18/2019 - 8:58pm He was always going to be…

He was always going to be able to recruit, particularly the DMV area. That's no surprise.

The bigger questions are about off-field stuff, putting together a staff, etc.

VT = Vaginal Trapezius

QB = Qdoba Burrito

Fred Jackson = the 62-year-old running back for the Buffalo Bills

Don't forget his stellar amateur career with the Mighty Ducks.

02/18/2019 - 8:45pm Stewart looks to me like an…

Stewart looks to me like an OLB/SS.

I like Carr, but he's more of a flex TE type. I think of him like I think of Devin Funchess. Good, big-bodied guy, but not someone who should be a primary target on the outside.

Personally, I think Earnest Sanders might be the #1 receiver in the state.

02/18/2019 - 8:42pm There might be better…

There might be better options elsewhere, but that doesn't necessarily mean we can land them.

02/18/2019 - 8:37pm That's his M.O.

That's his M.O.

You keep attempting to put words in my mouth.

I'm not biting.

The Birmingham Iron.

Two reasons:

1. Ty

2. Isaac

02/15/2019 - 1:21pm And Dorian Thompson-Robinson…

And Dorian Thompson-Robinson came in to an offense designed for his skills, and he completed 57.7% of his passes for 7 touchdowns and 4 interceptions, while averaging 1.4 yards/carry and scoring 0 touchdowns on the ground.

02/15/2019 - 1:17pm No. I'm saying the truth:

No. I'm saying the truth:

We don't know how 2020 recruiting will end. It doesn't have anything to do with pessimism or optimism.

A grad transfer, huh? I look forward to seeing Alex Malzone in an Ohio State uniform.

02/15/2019 - 8:11am "can't seem string together…

"can't seem string together another one to get over the hump :/"

That's kind of the point. We're 7 spots behind them, and it's only February 15. National Signing Day was a week and a half ago for the class of 2019.

02/15/2019 - 7:51am The job of FBS head coach …

The job of FBS head coach (and other head coaches, to a lesser extent) is a pretty fascinating one. Not only do you have to win games if you want to keep your job, but you're also a public employee (responsible to FOIA records and such), you need to be good at public relations, you need to recruit well, you need to hire well, you need to promote responsible behavior of your players (in school, out of school), you need to schmooze with boosters, etc...and that says nothing of personal responsibilities to family, friends, staying physically healthy, etc.

If you think about all the things that these FBS head coaches have to do, it's absurd and amazing all at once. Even though their price tags are extremely high, it's a job that would run most people into the ground.

02/15/2019 - 7:42am Right now Ohio State is #4…

Right now Ohio State is #4 in team rankings for 2020, and Michigan is #11. Saying the 11th-ranked team out of 130 is off to a "cold" start is some glass-half-full thinking.

02/15/2019 - 7:40am We currently have 11 seniors…

We currently have 11 seniors graduating after the 2019 season (LINK).

But the number will be A LOT higher, considering current roster makeup.

I added Maryland RB Blake Corum to the list.

02/14/2019 - 9:04pm I knew I'd find one!

I knew I'd find one!

02/14/2019 - 8:48pm Well, there are a few…

Well, there are a few coaches who comment fairly regularly, and then there are some quasi-lurkers...and then some actual lurkers...

...but yeah, you're probably right in a lot of cases.

02/14/2019 - 12:51pm Interesting. I love Art…

Interesting. I love Art Briles's football schemes. It's too bad he's such a crappy person.

02/14/2019 - 12:12pm Sorry, I guess I could have…

Sorry, I guess I could have given more detail.

Glazier Clinics are given around the country, and they're where meathead coaches like me gather together to learn more about football schemes, conditioning, techniques, etc. They bring in college and high school coaches from around the country to lead sessions on a variety of topics.

02/14/2019 - 11:41am There were also some red…

There were also some red flags with some of the "top guys" in 2019, so the top guys in the recruiting rankings were not the top guys in Michigan's eyes.

02/13/2019 - 5:51pm Yeah, it's a three-day…

Yeah, it's a three-day weekend, so you can get out and make some long-distance visits. St. Frances does a good job of getting their players out there to a lot of different schools.

02/13/2019 - 5:48pm He also wants to be a right…

He also wants to be a right tackle in college...which is, um, tough when you're 6'2".

02/13/2019 - 5:46pm Garrett Dellinger isn't a…

Garrett Dellinger isn't a Michigan native, so he doesn't really have a great affinity for Michigan. What I've heard suggests Notre Dame.

Spindler is a bigger possibility for Michigan. I wouldn't go as far as saying Michigan leads, but he's spent more time in the area. His dad is from Pennsylvania, so you wonder if he might be intrigued by playing for Pitt.

Neither player is extremely talkative in the recruiting arena.

02/12/2019 - 5:25am a) I think it's damaging…

a) I think it's damaging from a public perception standpoint.

b) I think it's a deterrent for other schools where the historical wins actually matter. Maybe the NCAA won't come down hard on OSU, Notre Dame, Michigan, etc., but the fear of that would hopefully cut off some illicit behavior.

02/11/2019 - 10:10pm Yeah, not just 5 of the top…

Yeah, not just 5 of the top 25, but 7 of the top 28 (Ruiz is #26 and Charbonnet is #28).

02/11/2019 - 10:06pm Personally, I'm not big on…

Personally, I'm not big on running backs who can't give you explosive plays. Tru Wilson had two 20+ yard runs on 62 attempts last year, and his long was 28. Don't get me wrong - I think he did a good job as a backup for Michigan. But if he's The Guy, that's not good for Michigan.

02/11/2019 - 9:59pm I would be surprised if…

I would be surprised if Jackson plays any running back in college. He's very slight.

The good thing for Harrison is that he's going to get coached up by the best DL coach in the country, Larry Johnson. (That's not good for Michigan, of course, but whatever.) But yeah, if you watch Harrison's film and don't just pay attention to his size/speed/athleticism, it's not very impressive.

02/11/2019 - 9:55pm Vacating wins only really…

Vacating wins only really hurts teams that have enough wins to be meaningful. If Michigan or Ohio State or Texas or Notre Dame vacated wins, that would suck for that program.

But I guess you have to be fair and take wins away from everyone.

Scientology would crush them all.

The best WR for Michigan in that class was Devin Gardner.

02/11/2019 - 9:45pm Yep. It was a very confusing…

Yep. It was a very confusing time in Michigan recruiting history. I never understood all the hype, and people were still hyping him up when he was being mediocre at Pioneer.

It would be less likely to happen if threads on the board got bumped back up to the top when someone commented. But that feature somehow got axed with MGoBlog 3.0.

I'm still going through them. #10 comes tomorrow morning.

Hey, if Brian Hoyer won the Super Bowl, Tom Brady won the national championship.

02/08/2019 - 11:08am Bo Schembechler's winning…

Bo Schembechler's winning percentage at Michigan was .796.
Lloyd Carr's winning percentage at Michigan was .753.
Jim Harbaugh's is .731.

Michigan's all-time winning percentage - for the winningest program in NCAA football history - is .730.

It blows me away that people knock Carr for not winning enough when the guy won a national championship and raised the winning percentage of the best program in history.

+1 for originality.

02/07/2019 - 10:04pm I'm so confused.

Hey, guys,…

I'm so confused.

Hey, guys, Derrick Green is no longer on the roster.

Also, Justin Fargas is transferring.

Just thought I'd let you guys know.
