02/19/2019 - 2:04pm I've made the trip to Tigers…

I've made the trip to Tigers Spring Training a few times in my life, and the best thing about Lakeland, Florida is that about 40 miles from Tampa and not too far from other more desirable locations on the Gulf Coast.

02/18/2019 - 10:04pm Part of me wanted that to…

Part of me wanted that to say "COMMITTED.....AGAIN" just for the chuckle. Actually, he isn't the first transfer to use that word, and admittedly I think the same thing each time.

In all seriousness, best of luck to him at Maryland.

02/18/2019 - 5:16pm Well, hopefully we get…

Well, hopefully we get better weather this year.

*looks at calendar*

Oh, you said April.....never mind....

02/18/2019 - 2:19pm My brother-in-law's wife…

My brother-in-law's wife works in the pediatric ICU at Mott's and I cannot fathom what she must see almost every day, and what those parents must be going through. So much respect for people who can work in such an environment.

I would pay to watch polar bear lightsaber battles....now that I have seen a GIF of it.

02/17/2019 - 7:13pm Many years ago, one episode…

Many years ago, one episode of The Tonight Show had a Headlines segment where one of them was "Man Gets Probation For Violating Probation". I have come to realize in the intervening time that this is essentially what the normal NCAA modus operandi is unless it serves their purpose to come after you with more vigor.

02/17/2019 - 7:09pm No, we cannot do this, and…

No, we cannot do this, and you shall not do this.

You can talk about the cultural issues at Michigan State all you please and criticize them all you please, but don't use that to deny empathy to an individual player like that. They are distinct things. Please be a better person next time.

02/17/2019 - 8:48am Yeah, I will be watching…

Yeah, I will be watching today definitely, especially since later it will be snowing and football on February 17th? Yes, please.

02/16/2019 - 7:41pm First, the game is so…

First, the game is so different when you're that close vs watching on TV.  There isn't as much open space as you think in person, and they are much faster.  .

I've been the first few rows, and you can still say that - it is a far more intimate experience than it might seem on television, and yeah, a regulation court, when you are looking right at it, really doesn't seem quite as impressive in scale as it does on television. Very different experience at Crisler than on TV.

02/16/2019 - 9:09am I have my spray for anyone…

I have my spray for anyone who is caught wearing a "Fear The Tutle" shirt. I don't suspect there will be very many of them, of course, but I will be prepared.

02/15/2019 - 4:16pm Oh, that's the best....when…

Oh, that's the best....when your dismissal is part of a strategy already in motion. Certainly not in football, but it happened to me a couple careers ago.

In any case, Florida State's offensive line was......well, it was. I'll be polite.

02/15/2019 - 12:16pm The OP is the cavalier…

The OP is the cavalier fellow who was once heard to say on a game show:

"Jim, I can name that tune in one note"

.....and he did.

02/14/2019 - 5:58pm It seems like there are…

It seems like there are several examples of coordinators and even head coaches - good ones at that - hiding out in other capacities until certain jobs or better jobs opened up. It's such an insular world that I personally wouldn't be shocked if Leavitt did this himself.

02/14/2019 - 12:29pm I will second that - the…

I will second that - the Claude Johnson talk was pretty interesting.I have been enjoying the podcast generally as well.

02/13/2019 - 9:14pm I keep thinking of the…

I keep thinking of the Architects Sketch from the Flying Circus....

"Well, of course, this is just the sort blinkered philistine pig-ignorance I've come to expect from you non-creative garbage.... You sit there on your loathsome spotty behinds squeezing blackheads, not caring a tinker's cuss for the struggling artist."

02/13/2019 - 6:41pm My wife and I went to…

My wife and I went to different high schools, different universities, but we're compatible types of crazy, so it works out.

Voted all the same, of course.

02/13/2019 - 4:21pm Brian Kelly taking pot shots…

Brian Kelly taking pot shots at anyone or anything is....an interesting thing for a purple man who killed a kid to do. I'll put it that way.

02/12/2019 - 11:17pm You can say what you will…

You can say what you will about this game, and I agree with anyone who says it was more or less shit, but I love the fire in Beilein. He advocates for his players in a way that someone coaches probably wouldn't dare, even in the face of an off night.

02/12/2019 - 11:14pm As I recall, we were barely…

As I recall, we were barely ranked in preseason polls, and despite tonight's loss, I would think that Beilein is in the top five in the conference even at that when it comes to this honor. I mean, I think we know what the problems are, but that he has this team where it is at right now is quite a tribute the coach that he is.

02/12/2019 - 6:07pm ....and this is why I am…

....and this is why I am glad that programs really don't listen to fans when it comes to day-to-day operations generally. If our programs listened to this blog, all of our programs would be tire fires and we'd be bitching about tire fires that were our fault.

02/12/2019 - 11:49am You know, one of the things…

You know, one of the things that I thought about after the initial "WTF?" over this move were all those stories about coming back to the Ann Arbor area and being close to family and all that, underscoring how it is, in the end, about the money in coaching. I am fine with that, but my thing is that, if you're a coach, don't pretend like it isn't about the money and the opportunity.

02/12/2019 - 9:43am Maybe it is just me, but…

Maybe it is just me, but vacating wins always seemed like one of the most hollow punishments that could be levied against a team. You cannot, after all, unplay all those games and you know how they turned out, so it seems like that, even symbolically, it does little to nothing other than add a smidgen of gratuitous shame to anything more impactful.

02/11/2019 - 5:14pm There are a few diaries from…

There are a few diaries from years ago laying about on this site which look at departures from those classes. I suppose some of them could be considered "busts" insofar as their impact, though obviously the reasons players leave vary. In any case, the results of those diaries are......well, drink first before you read them.

02/11/2019 - 5:05pm A reclamation project with a…

A reclamation project with a huge potential upside for a small salary hit? There are probably a few teams that should be asking themselves why they weren't in on this.

You couldn't make this move in some markets, and making the move in no way excuses of mitigates Hunt's past actions obviously, but in the business of the NFL, it would be spectacularly hard to turn down an all-pro RB when you need an all-pro RB.

02/11/2019 - 8:40am I haven't heard any details…

I haven't heard any details yet other than the date, which was 4/13 per my calendar.

I just hope we get better weather, although spring in Michigan can either be idyllic and picturesque or it can be a muddy, soggy nightmare. We've definitely had both scenarios.

02/10/2019 - 4:07pm It seems like most of photos…

It seems like most of photos of this type that you see on Twitter or Instagram or wherever are taken as the team is boarding / exiting the bus or during the shootaround, so I would imagine those are the best bets.

02/09/2019 - 9:52pm I don't know.....I feel like…

I don't know.....I feel like that deprives us of having the maximal stage on which to show the world that, try as we might, we just can't manage it for some reason.

02/09/2019 - 3:44pm Wisconsin fans seem very…

Wisconsin fans seem very triggered by this game and its result. It's rather amusing.

From the full report:

SVSU shall undergo an independent audit of the compliance department operations during the 2018-19 academic year. (self-imposed.) In addition, SVSU shall have a similar audit during its final year of probation.

Of course, the report makes it sound as if SVSU would first need to form a Compliance Department so that it can then be audited.

Well, we know why....

He had nearly 400 rebounds in one season, I believe, and still has the single season record, as I recall.

02/08/2019 - 8:17am Well, the wind is making for…

Well, the wind is making for some excitement at work this morning, so I don't know exactly what my weekend holds at this point. By hook or by crook, it will involve Michigan basketball though.

02/07/2019 - 10:24pm RIP to a great American and…

RIP to a great American and an insane (in a good way) Michigan fan. I had the pleasure of meeting him once as he represented the district I live in and he was a genuinely affable and funny person, in my own opinion.

02/07/2019 - 7:00pm Well, that's the sort of…

Well, that's the sort of transition that I didn't expect for Pep, but all the same, hopefully it works out for him.

02/07/2019 - 6:56pm This one doesn't really…

This one doesn't really bother me. It is really an "injured list", so whatever.

Among the other proposed changes, the possible implementation of the DH in the NL would be supremely odd to me. The pitch clock - again, if implemented - is another one that will take some adjustment on my part.

02/07/2019 - 4:20pm I would guess that Woodson…

I would guess that Woodson gets another analyst job, but you know, even though it is clearly a longshot and I am just dreaming a really selfish dream, if he wanted to come back to Ann Arbor and take a role at the university.....

02/07/2019 - 4:14pm I heard this on the radio as…

I heard this on the radio as I was pulling in my own driveway. Very sad indeed.

02/07/2019 - 9:26am The last couple weeks have…

The last couple weeks have been really interesting. My kids were in school on Tuesday last week and that's it, and then they were off yesterday due to the ice. My son actually did complain about how this was disruptive and asked if they were in danger of making these days up in June. I explained to him that they build in a certain number of days for weather, but I didn't know how many and that I was sure that our district had a few left before they started talking make-up days.

02/06/2019 - 11:11pm The video was great, but…

The video was great, but part of me was sitting here thinking that, whereas I have very clear memories of watching this show, most if not all of these kids were born after it went off the air.

02/06/2019 - 8:57pm You know, as much as I…

You know, as much as I chuckled, we might be one of the few teams that will eventually have a longsnapper slapped with a targeting call or something fairly catastrophic like that.

02/06/2019 - 4:40pm Yeah, this is the detail…

Yeah, this is the detail that makes me hope that there is another move in the works. How many centers can you stock on an NBA roster? Wait, the Timberwolves - who had an all-PG team for a few years - may have an answer to this question....

02/06/2019 - 4:36pm It's more than an hour…

It's more than an hour before Beer O'Clock but I know many of us could make beer work all the same, but if it were up to me, a 5 AM start so the game can be over before breakfast wouldn't be a bad idea either.

02/06/2019 - 4:31pm Jay Hopson's move here is…

Jay Hopson's move here is usually the one that ends up with such a person on the short side of the dreaded Friday afternoon meeting in the boss' office.

02/06/2019 - 9:50am Even with this team…

Even with this team currently at 21-2 with only about five weeks or so of regular season play left, if we lost two in a row down the stretch, there would definitely be a few people who would grow impatient with John Beilein as a result.

02/06/2019 - 8:18am Well, I definitely did not…

Well, I definitely did not expect a "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" reference in this thread, so well done there.

02/05/2019 - 8:30pm All goes well, Coach can…

All goes well, Coach can celebrate this birthday with a victory, although someone really need to talk to the conference about scheduling Rutgers on his birthday. Come on now....

02/05/2019 - 6:19pm Well, hopefully that means…

Well, hopefully that means there is some sort of path back to the team, so I guess we will see. Chris Evans is one of many players that I really did enjoy watching, and would like to continue doing so.

I always picture this as something right out of Stargate....

I actually wondered if he would ever show up on the head coach radar somewhere, and apparently he did. Best of luck to him.
