|02/21/2019 - 11:42am||Yeah it was embarassing how…||
Yeah it was embarassing how at the end of the game they kept saying 'without Zion/no Williamson', making sure to put an asterisk on UNC's victory. As if UNC didn't just kick the shit out of the rest of Duke's bought and paid for lineup of superstars so it somehow shouldn't count. Duke will probably still be #1 next week.
|02/21/2019 - 11:38am||I know he's a great player…||
I know he's a great player and everything but isn't Duke supposed to be loaded with other guys like that? The rest of the team played awful and UNC ran them off their home court. Overall it was a pretty embarassing loss. Starting to think they're maybe a bit overrated (imagine that).
|02/20/2019 - 2:44pm||listened to a bunch of ALice…||
listened to a bunch of ALice in Chains last week a lot of their unplugged show. Pearl Jam's Unplugged is pretty great as well. Also listened to some early live shows of Pearl Jam with Abbruzzese on drums, the lineup with him was unreal.
Also listened to a ton of hip hop today - Twinz (Deep Cover 98), Verbal Intercourse, Just Don't Give a F*** and Still Don't Give a F****, Flava in Ya Ear (Bad Boy Remix) and some cuts from Liquid Swords.
Listening to Spottieottiedopalicious as I write this.
|02/19/2019 - 5:37pm||Michigan is gonna want to…||
Michigan is gonna want to have this one back. They led the whole way but couldn't slam the door shut. They came up with a GB with 23 seconds left in regulation and a lead and couldn't clear it and they had a handful of opportunities and shots in OT/2OT but couldn't capitalize. Noseworthy had a good shot off a crazy bang-bang play but Drexel's goalie made an absolutely incredible save to keep them alive.
Hopefully Drexel will turn out to be good and have a strong season. Otherwise, this is a tough loss for M - one they let get away. The good news is: they seem to be able to score a lot which will make them a fun team to watch. But, they'll have to figure out this shot clock and really clean up their play on GBs and in unsettled situations.
Well, this might be a good loss for them and hopefully they can get it together for Jacksonville this Saturday. GO BLUE!
|02/19/2019 - 5:28pm||That's exactly what I was…||
That's exactly what I was thinking - 2 way middies are going to become a thing again. And teams might have to field 2 and maybe 3 legit lines of midfielders.
It seemed a few times Mack/Buckanavage didn't know the clock was winding down. And I think a few guys were tired and made sloppy plays on passes/ball possession/ground balls that led to opportunities for Drexel.
|02/19/2019 - 5:23pm||Yeah why did he take the…||
Yeah why did he take the last one? That seemed weird
|02/19/2019 - 5:13pm||Ugh shit, M had the…||
Ugh shit, M had the groundball off that great save by Heidt. Almost wish Goonan woulda just cheaped it up field.
Gotta hand it to Drexel, they didn't give up. But I'm a bit annoyed M helped them salt away that lead. Overtime is gonna be nerve-wracking!
|02/19/2019 - 4:20pm||Yeah its crazy how many…||
Yeah its crazy how many early season upsets there are now. THere's a lot more parity of talent than there used to be. UVA and Duke seem to drop an early one every year - same with Syracuse. Defending champs Yale also got knocked off the other day (although that was by Nova, a fairly established, legit program).
Unfortunately, this hardly ever seems to translate to the end of the year. Tournament upsets are still super rare.
|02/19/2019 - 11:21am||Maybe he did the grade…||
Maybe he did the grade school thing and held up his 3 index, middle and ring fingers together and said 'read between the lines'. Refs are very sensitive to dumb immature insults like that.
|02/13/2019 - 4:34pm||It just dawned on me before…||
It just dawned on me before that we might not see the patented Beilein February Surge this year because the guys on the court have a ton of experience now and there's not much room to improve. Plus, it looks like they won't be getting any help from the bench.
But at the same time there is room for improvement, particularly Poole and Iggy. If they get more efficient in the next few weeks Michigan might be able to return to the form we saw in November.
|02/13/2019 - 4:27pm||I know this was an unusual…||
I know this was an unusual game against a team that is much better than its record indicates. And there were a lot of extenuating circumstances. But, this was a bad loss (I almost said 'garbage' but thought that was too harsh). Penn State is not a good team, Michigan should beat them, it's very simple. It's a game they should have won and one they have to have if they want to win the conference. They looked tired and out of it for much of the game.
Michigan is a weird team. They have an incredibly high ceiling and could be the national champs but when they're off they're off and it seems like they can lose to anybody. I love Beilein's teams but they always drop a few to inferior teams which is incredibly frustrating.
This team's chi is blocked on offense or something. I only watched the second half last night but everything seemed like a struggle - they can't get the defense to move and they can't shoot over them. I don't know what the solution is but those weaknesses are a recipe for disaster come tournament time.
I'm not that worried though - they'll turn it around because they almost always do, but they have definite weaknesses and it's frustrating to watch them in games like this.
|02/13/2019 - 4:23pm||It's American. Actually the…||
It's American. Actually the most American sport there is! The modern game is adapted from a version the Native Americans played as training for war.
|02/13/2019 - 3:54pm||I missed most of the game…||
I missed most of the game last night but thought POole was pretty bad in the moments I did see. He can't shoot (iggy stinks lately too but that's another story). And then you point out all the 1-for-whatevers he's had recently and I say 'that's about right'. He can't hit anything lately and I'm afraid teams are going to start treating him like Simpson. In that case you might as well put in Nunez.
Iggy and Poole are the most important guys to this offense. If Michigan is going to score any points down the stretch, they have to figure it out.
|02/13/2019 - 3:47pm||And unless they can go…||
And unless they can go unbeaten or an impressive 5-1 and a B1G tourney title, they can kiss that possible 1 seed goodbye too.
|02/09/2019 - 2:25pm||The faceoffs are pretty…||
The faceoffs are pretty discouraging - Michigan has never really had a great faceoff man (at least not since the club days). They'll need to improve if they want to compete for the postseason.
Hopefully this was just first game hiccups and maybe Cleveland St isn't too bad. Let's beat Drexel now. GO BLUE!
|02/09/2019 - 1:07pm||Michigan wins against…||
Michigan wins against Cleveland State 10-8. Didn't think it was worth its own post but thought I would put it here. Michigan raced out to a 7-0 lead during a dominant first half. BUt they let Cleveland State back in it and it seems like the second half was pretty nerve-wracking. Cleveland State cut it to 9-8 before Noseworthy got an insurance goal with a little less than two to play.
It's hard to know what to take away from this game (esp because I couldn't watch it). That first half is promising but that second half is worrisome. But a W is a W and its a little tough the first game of the year. Cleveland State gave Ohio State a little trouble last week so maybe they're not too bad?
In other lacrosse news Penn State is off to a roaring start so far in 2019 - they crushed Villanova last week 17-7 and are up 27-10 over RObert Morris (and that one isn't even over yet at the time of this post). Nova is always pretty good and RM went to the tourney last year - those are impressive wins. Syracuse lost to Colgate last night in a huge upset and Duke lost to High Point on Wednesday in an even bigger upset. And Duke is struggling right now against Jacksonville, that one is tied in the 2nd. THis could be an interesting season.
Now if Michigan could please beat Wisconsin's ass, I'm tired of them hanging around.
|02/09/2019 - 11:37am||Let's show 'em what time it…||
Let's show 'em what time it is - go beat these punks!! GO BLUE!!
|02/08/2019 - 12:43pm||I get that having one person…||
I get that having one person in office (plus his father and his wife) for such a long time is a bit problematic and looks bad. While I am in favor of some kind of term limits (maybe 20 years for reps?), he was only a House member for that time and his impact/power as a lone representative is not on the level of the presidency.
It also doesn't mean he was corrupt. And you don't need to hand out favors to get re-elected if you do a good job representing your constituents. Yes, on the whole I would say the Dingells were probably a little too close to GM (Debbie was a GM lobbyist if I recall correctly), but for the most part he served with distinction. And I don't remember his name coming up in any scandals or corruption.
|02/07/2019 - 2:10pm||So you're suggesting that…||
So you're suggesting that some of the scientific studies supporting the climate change theory may have been falsified?
Also, if I understand correctly, many of the major climate studies have been funded and carried out by our government, which you think wouldn't have an agenda one way or the other. In fact, a recent major study, from our current administration (which is not environmentally friendly) said that climate change could cause serious problems in the next 20 years. Just yesterday NOAA and NASA said that the past 5 years have been the 5 hottest years on record. I mean, we should scrutinize every study and make sure its free from influence of any kind - you're right about that - but I tend to trust the scientific community on most of these issues. And I think the major incentives are on the other side.
|02/07/2019 - 1:04pm||I never got this argument…||
I never got this argument and I'm still not sure I get it. So, you believe in climate change but think Big Science also has something to gain from it? One side, which is essentially represented by corporate interests worth billions and billions of dollars and which has a vested interest in denying climate change, has essentially convinced an entire segment of the population that it is somehow not real. They have everything to gain from politicizing it, because they have a lot to lose if our political leaders decide to do something about it.
I don't think I've ever heard of a flawed or biased climate change study that came to the conclusion that this phenomenon is actually happening. At this point, haven't there been tons of legit scientific studies that have concluded that climate change is real and dangerous? I don't get who benefits from this - scientists? Because they can use it to increase their funding?
The money is on one side, don't be fooled.
|02/06/2019 - 12:48pm||It's a masterpiece, can't…||
It's a masterpiece, can't believe it came out in 1992. Way ahead of its time and everybody still hasn't caught up. Lent it to my buddy in high school and never got it back. Didn't get my hands on another copy until my senior year at Michigan. That band had a big influence on me. Even had tickets to their tour with the Beastie Boys before it was canceled because Mike D fell off his bike and then RATM broke up.

Good W! They shot the lights out and really needed a positive offensive performance after that nightmare against Iowa.
Hopefully they'll be ready for whatever tricks Wisconsin throws at them and Michigan just blows them out from the tip. GO BLUE! BEAT WISCONSIN!

I'm in Des Moines and I'm going to those tournament games no matter what, would LOVE to see Michigan there. GO BLUE!!
|02/04/2019 - 2:56pm||Yeah I would send Davis in…||
Yeah I would send Davis in just to be borderline overly physical in the post, espcially against guys like Happ who are bad foul shooters (not Iowa's guys though, they seemed decent at the line). Davis is a foul magnet, no doubt and if he even breathes so much on a player he seems to get whistled, but he might as well challenge each shot and pick up some hard ones while he's in there. Michigan can trade the likely two for hopefully one or none. And there;s the chance the notoriously incomptetent B1G refs might not even call it. In any event, Michigan isn't worried about Davis' fouls - he's not going to foul out in the limited time he has and even if he does then they go to Johns or Livers.
|02/04/2019 - 2:44pm||In the preview I made a…||
In the preview I made a comment that Iowa was a motionless snake you came upon while hiking and you don't know if its dead, asleep, unconscious. Michigan could get bit, but there was also a way to get past it even if it wan't dead or unconscious.
But, Iowa was the Live Snake.
It sucks the refs were so bad but hopefully this is like the Northwestern and Nebraska games from last year - just a throw away game. It was awful, but learn from it, forget about it and get it out of your system. Get ready for the next one.
|02/04/2019 - 1:30pm||I love this nonsense - that…||
I love this nonsense - that Brady has NEVER had any good receivers. It's bullshit. Edelman, Hogan, Gronk are legitimately good to great players. People who say this like to point out Randy Moss but conveniently leave out Wes Welker as if he was trash. Welker is probably going to the Hall of Fame. Shit, even Troy Brown was pretty good, he was a highly underrated player. Deion Branch and and Amendola weren't bad either.
It's like the Yankees fans in the late 90s and early 2000s who were like 'they don't have any superstars'. Yeah, if you don't include Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Bernie Williams, Paul O'Neill, and Roger Clemens.
Also - the deflate thing wasn't the only allegation of cheating against the Pats. They had a huge scandal in which they were accused of taping other teams' closed practices, including a Rams' pre-Super Bowl practice in 2002. If I recall correctly, they were never punished by the league for this (or if they were it was minimal).
Brady deserves a lot of credit but this dynasty will always be a little tarnished because of all that shit. If you win a lot but are also credibly accused of cheating, well, that's going to sow a lot of doubt in people's minds.
|02/04/2019 - 12:11pm||Brady and the Patriots are…||
Brady and the Patriots are the goddamn worst
|02/02/2019 - 10:18am||I've been sticking up for…||
I've been sticking up for Eli for a while now but he really disappointed me last night. He gets a window (albeit a small one) to take a shot and instead he pumps it and passes it off. He had one opportunity that was so wide open he couldn't not shoot it and he airballed it (it might have grazed the bottom/front of the rim from where I was). I think he's messed up in the head right now, along with the rest of the offense.
The sad thing is that Poole has been pretty bad too and he's the starter. Iggy got some buckets early but I thought he wasn't really efficient the rest of the game and didn't make good decisions. I would like to see Beilein take a gamble and put Nunez into the game against zones or when this offense turns to shit. He's supposed to be the best pure shooter on the team and he splashed a deep NBA three in garbage time minutes the other day. It might be worth the risk to scare up some points.
I still think Poole and Iggy are the best offensive players on this team and we need them out there. But they need some offensive reinforcements from the bench because the shooting is getting downright ugly.
|02/02/2019 - 10:01am||I was at the game and it was…||
I was at the game and it was beyond frustrating. My main beef is that no one could hit a damn shot, they weren't great looks but they have to hit them (also that fast break layup Iggy miffed really ticked me off). It's February so hopefully they'll pull out of this cold spell soon.
I'm really annoyed with Iowa for a number of reasons: Their fans, who up until now didn't bother me too much and I regarded as some of the best in the B1G, were annoying as hell. The entire crowd bitched and moaned at the officiating (they were like this at the football game I went to this year as well) and whined at every whistle as if it was a goddamn conspiracy against them. Meanwhile Teske gets called for God knows what and other Michigan players are picking up fouls and not getting any whistles on the other end. Then Teske comes back and picks up another right away (I didn't see a replay and I was far from the basket but it looked to me like a strong, clean challenge on Cook and a late whistle). I got news for any opposing fans, if Teske (or if Michigan for that matter) is in foul trouble, the officiating is going your way. Don't bitch about it. I like to think Michigan fans aren't so obtuse in their perception of officiating but I don't know.
Also, a few weeks ago, Iowa played a home game against Wisconsin, one of their supposedly hated rivals who was fairly highly ranked at the time, and the place was fucking empty. There were even lower bowl seats that weren't filled. Then they play Michigan and its suddenly the 1970s Boston Garden.
Also I'm annoyed at Fran and Iowa for deciding to play defense for the first time in the last 100 games. They'd be a goddamn top 10 team if they could learn even the fundamentals of defense.
And generally Iowa sports could be pretty damn good if they didn't save all their effort for when they play Michigan. Hey guess what? It's not the only game on the fucking schedule. If you always played like this you would probably win the B1G once in a while.
If Iowa takes this signature win and somehow manages to miss the tournament, which is a distinct possibility, I'm going to lose my mind. I moved to Des Moines a few months ago and I pull for the Hawks. But it's really frustrating when Iowa plays like ass against every other team but Michigan. If they miss the tournament I'm moving out of the state and never coming back.

A character based on his likeness will be played by Will Ferrell in my screenplay about 4 crooked college baskeetball coaches who all try to scheme their way to the top, also starring George Clooney and Al Pacino as characters based on Jay Wright and Rick Pitino (and maybe Danny DeVito as Tom Izzo).
|02/01/2019 - 10:52am||It's all because Knicks…||
It's all because Knicks games are a way to show off your money. For fabulously wealthy NY people, particularly Wall Street and hedge fund types its a way to tell the rest of the city that you have too much money - so much that you can spend $1,500 for a ticket (plus $100+ for an authentic jersey) for your 12 year old kid who is now asleep in the seat next to you while the Knicks play Lebron and the Lakers (seriously - next time you watch a Knicks game see if they show a rich kid in $750 seats who is dead asleep - its not uncommon. I mean you can make the joke that the Knicks play put him to sleep but if I'm the kid's dad I wake his ass up, this is costing me serious money). It's like when the high-society snobs in Europe used to go to the opera just to be seen even though they didn't know shit about the opera.
And people like this are the reason the ticket prices never go down and why it still costs a normal person's month of rent to sit anywhere that would be considered decent seats. And this despite the fact that the Knicks are MISERABLE and now you can't even see Porzingis. These people have turned MSG into a mausoleum. An MSG full of real Knicks fans wouldn't put up with this: they'd be mercilessly booing Dolan, Fizdale and the front office every night. But they can't get in the door or are exiled to the upper deck. The old garden was BRUTAL.
|01/31/2019 - 5:33pm||I live in Iowa now and have…||
I live in Iowa now and have watched a lot of Iowa games this year. Here's what they are:
You're hiking in the wilderness one day and you come upon a snake on the side of the path but you can't tell if it's sleeping, unconscious or dead. You have to go around it and continue on your way but how? How do you deal with it? You have to proceed with caution because you don't know what it will do, if anything.
Iowa has the capability to snap up and bite you. Or it could just lay there. Hopefully they'll be Unconscious Snake or Dead Snake tomorrow.
I'm going to the game tomorrow yaaaaayyyyy (please lets make it a comfortable W).
|01/31/2019 - 5:01pm||No serious big time player…||
No serious big time player is ever going to come to the Knicks now. They're a mess and the league should take the team away from Dolan.
I don't think ZIon will be Lebron but if any team can truly ruin his career or waste his talents its the Knicks. They'll turn him into late-career fat Shawn Kemp in no time.
|01/31/2019 - 4:00pm||what the fuck. I'm a…||

|01/30/2019 - 12:07pm||True, I've been worried…||
True, I've been worried about Teske's cumulative amount of minutes so far this season. I'm afraid he's going to get overworked or hurt. Beilein needs to send in some reinforcements for him. Throw Johns or Davis in there for a few minutes in the first half. Use the small lineup with Livers more often. If the lead hits 18 or 20 with 10 minutes or less in the 2nd half, put in Davis or Johns. I know Beilein might think they're not ready but he's got to trust them a little bit more to help out Teske who is the most important guy on the floor for Michigan most nights.
The last few games Michigan has missed opportunities to turn big leads into blowouts. They need to start doing that so Teske and Simpson don't die before the tournament.
|01/30/2019 - 11:53am||Glad they took care of…||
Glad they took care of business and beat those punk-ass Buckeyes. I like that they got in WEsson's head too, he was having a rough night. Game was a little frustrating for a while (Poole taking bad shots and turning it over, guys missing easy buckets) though and I thought Michigan could've blown them out earlier.
The defense is stout and firing on all cylinders but the offense still isn't great and could be much more efficient. In the last few games they've missed some opportunities to really run their opponents out of the gym. But, with that said, its amazing how this team can win without playing anywhere near its best game. Their ceiling is incredibly high. And the fact that the defense can compensate for inefficient offensive outings makes them incredibly hard to beat. If they can get back to their November level of play come tournament time, then everybody better look the f*** out.
Anybody else going to the Iowa game? Anybody? Just me? Ok...

For real, I was there from 2000-2004 and it seemed like it was university policy to never cancel classes no matter what. This obviously made going to class miserable (and dangerous) and seriously made me hate my experience there during my freshman year. The urban legend was that some punk ass law student years ago had sued the school after a snow day because the U was denying the educational services he was paying for (don't know if that's true or not but it wouldn't surprise me if it was). I'm glad to see they've come to their senses.
But, will the game tonight be canceled?

THis year against Villanova, not even kidding. Every possession was amazing, Michigan busted right of the gate and ran them off the court. There was no doubt. It was domination on both sides of the court and Michigan christened Nova's new arena with Wildcat tears. It was great.
Honorable Mention: Michigan vs Florida in the Elite Eight in 2013. Michigan BOMBED threes, particularly Stauskas and the Gators didn't know what hit 'em.
