Good ole Sam and his tummy rumbles.

Been very impressed the last couple years with JH being willing to make the tough calls re: staff.

Even cut himself off as defacto OC this year. Drevno. Pep. Very encouraging to see the wisdom/force of will at work there.

Homeschool pro: when our children know the weather is going to be good, they get up early and are usually almost done by breakfast.

Homeschool con: paying taxes to undereducate everyone else's kids and not getting a dime of it to overeducate your own

Oh, and if you want to neg me for this, here's a post for you to do it. Really just interested in what else anyone else has scoured up while scouring off the wall ideas. Hopefully, we'll have good news soon about someone.

Sure, but to be fair, 2017 was an extremely young, rebuilding team running multiple, opposing blocking schemes.

01/09/2019 - 1:45pm A bunch of us obviously…

A bunch of us obviously frustrated some of the players with their stupidity in not recognizing the various new concepts that were being incorporated. I was surprised to hear them addressing fan-base misconceptions late in the year. But student-athletes can't be expected to tune everything out. They're human.

When I first joined this blog community (maybe 2 years ago?), one of its unique features was that it involved mostly people who understood X's and O's much better than many. It was embarrassing that the level of ignorance has been--to use a program buzzword--ascending to such an extent that we were among the guilty parties.

And it looks like FB is gonna have an eventful off-season. At least two, maybe 4 or 5, hires coming.

These days, sports and sports news is better than politics news etc., as far as mental opiates go.

Enjoy

I think he needs to make a couple home-run hires, then finish up recruiting, then get the new staff all on the same page for Spring ball.

If you want stuff investigated and spoken about, that's part of Warde's job. It's not the part he's best at, and I'm ok with that. Not everyone is great at every part of their job--especially if it requires them to wear so many different hats.

Edit: that said, let me throw a little fuel on. Sounded like Aubrey knew this was coming, right? If Matty was already decided, and almost nobody else knew, is it a stretch to think that Aubrey would be one of the few?

Between Zach Harrison and these two, smells like conspiracy to me. Who were the two coaches recruiting him again? ...

Interested to see whom Harbaugh hires. He's made some good ones the last few years.

01/08/2019 - 8:14am Wow--the assumption that…

Wow--the assumption that faith cannot be real if public, and that it is therefore always purely from ulterior motive if you see it. Jesus was crucified because His faith in Himself was too public for the Jews. And the world is full of people whose public belief in Him gains them nothing but pain, in an earthly sense. Just Google Early Rain Covenant Church (Chinese church that gets rounded up and beaten weekly just for trying to gather) or Nigerian Christians (slaughtered at will, but not in a news-important area of the world, so we never hear about them).

The whole "Bible belt" thing is pretty tired and no longer accurate. Northern/urban ethnocentrism is annoying to me. Since I moved down south from metro Detroit, I've met way more people down here whose religion is ALL about the SEC and has very little to do with Jesus. There may be cultural memory of pseudo-Christian superficial ethics, but there's very little real Christianity down here.

Frauds are frauds. Hate their falsehood. But don't assume that everyone is fraudulent just because their faith is public. Do you think Jimmy's super public homage to the Pope makes him and Michigan fraudulent? The second and third hand accounts out of Clemson about Dabo's personal love, humility, and self-sacrifice--and his players' emulating the same--are pretty unanimous.

Maybe love, humility, and self-sacrifice have a small (?!) contribution to the amount of development we see in those players as well.

How awesome would it be if he were trolling OSU? Not saying that I think that's happening. But it would be one of my favorite things ever if he got all the way to signing a contract, put the pen on the paper, then looked up, grinned, dropped the pen, and burst into the biggest belly laugh you ever did see/hear.

If we want to have a magical QB, we need both the talent behind center AND also to run a system that gets him the routes in which he can develop into MQB...

Evans needs space for his filed vision, and doesn't have time in current play-calls for him to let the play develop that way.

He'd be much better as a receiving back in screen-pass situations, etc.

Whomever we have in there, it'd be nice to see an NFL style 50-60 RB receptions next year

I appreciate his playing in the bowl game. Just think the difference that our NFL guys would have made. I'm so pissed not only that we lost but that Florida got a win. Would have been nice for Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and MissSt all to end their season on a loss.

Lol. A redundant comment about a redundant post. Welcome to the offseason.

12/30/2018 - 2:44am For setting our OL back a…

For setting our OL back a decade? Absolutely it is. We should have fourth and fifth year studs, reloading every year up front. It doesn't matter what offense we're trying to run, if we can't run it at all.

12/29/2018 - 11:57pm As disappointing as it was…

As disappointing as it was today, much different game if Gary/Bush/Higdon/JBB play and injuries don't gut the already thin DT spots... alas, you play whom you have, and we played poorly even with whom we had, but it's easy to imagine that we could be having a very different conversation this evening...

The future looks good though.

===

Look at how improved the OL was this year without much personnel change. Look at what we have coming in on OL in the freshmen and redshirts. This OL is going to take a leap.

Turner looked decent, but Charbonnet is elite in a way no back has been since Mike Hart.

Receivers look great. TE's have all the tools.

Will be interesting to see if Dylan beats Shea in camp.

===

Defensively, I like having a more complicated scheme, which is how we've been trending. But safety and tackle play have been killing us. We end up getting smoked in the back and gashed up front.

If only we had signed the #1 safety... oh wait... we did!

Throw in Hinton, Mazi... there's reason to be optimistic.

===

Horrid, horrid results the last two games. Unwatchable at times. But the sky has not fallen, and the future actually shows a pretty high ceiling. I didn't expect to recover this quickly, but I feel pretty optimistic.

GO BLUE

not bad, considering the bad spot on our 4th down, the big missed call on their pick play on 3rd down, and that blown coverage where he failed to jam at all at the line... this could have been a lot uglier than 3 at this point, and probably ought to have been us somewhere between 7-0 and 14-0...

game plan looks good; D in general looks good (gary and bush don't appear to be missed much at this point)

Uh... except when we win. And grow as a team. And look good doing it. We do not need to be a team that shrinks from hard things. We need to attack and conquer hard things.

That's the Harbaugh way, and I'm buying in. Fantastic season for Army. Will be all the better when we beat them now.
