Nevada is an outlier in the one-and-done era. I think they start all 5th-year seniors who are all transfers.

I don't think they're that good, though. Their best player (whose father, interestingly, is former NFLer Simeon Rice) is projected as a late 2nd-round pick.

Kthxbye.

What is the record for the most teams in 24/48/72/96 hours?

Three interesting assumptions:

* Charles Woodson would _really_ like to live in Ann Arbor. (Hey -- I'm very fond of it, but there are many arguably greener pastures available.)

* CW would really like to coach football (and recruit).

* CW would be good at coaching football (and recruiting).

In an LA Times article from 2016 I just read that Alabama had lost to an integrated Tennessee team in the prior year.

File that (Loeffler's hire of Malone) under "unimaginative and uninspiring." He got Campbell, though, which is good.

Given how much rotation takes place on most D lines (with decent playing time for several guys), how good could we expect a grad-transfer DT to be?

OT: Who was the first high school kid to use "blessed" in his/her Tweet about committing to a school? It almost seems like a requirement now.

Do you think his stock improved? Enough to offset what he would have made playing in the NBA last year?

Earlier this year Nevada was starting five 5th-year seniors that all started their careers at other schools.

He'll always be the answer to a UM football trivia question ("Who was Harbaugh's first recruit?").

Also, it says "something about something" that Michigan will have only one 5th-year senior contributing next year.

In his absence he must have stockpiled puppet accounts that refer to him as "Shea." I'm amazed at the number of upvotes he gets.

Yes, happy birthday to James. But, "WE ARE THE BEST UNIVERSITY IN THE WORLD" is ridiculous. I cringe whenever I hear it even though I love UMich.

Trust Jasper on this. DanaGoBlue is correct. Bedbugs are more likely in skanky neighborhoods, but they do not respect socioeconomic boundaries and household cleanliness is largely beside the point. They've appeared in nice places in Chicago, for example. NYC, too

May I suggest dropping your standards? :)

My bar is really low. If it's better than Budweiser/Miller (i.e., any mass-marketed domestic beer) I'll generally drink it. I grew up in an age where Labatt Blue was considered premium beer. I've been dazzled by the craft beer explosion. Even the crappy ones taste great to me.

312 is generally available at Aldi, btw. It's right next to the Aldi brands, which all seem to be brewed in Rochester, NY.

IMO (in case anyone gives a shit):

* IV is overrated.

* In IV's list of tracks, Black Dog is overrated.

* I think the MMB should play something other than Black Dog.

* Living Loving Maid is a much worse song than Heartbreaker. I used to hate when it invariably followed the latter on radio playlists.

* Zeppelin's live songs are way better than the studio versions.

I gave you a +1.

With a few exceptions (Baas, Long, Lewan, Schofield), top-end players (and high NFL draft picks) have been scarce at that position group since the days of Hutchinson, Backus, and Williams. That's close to twenty years.

Ed Martin: Acknowledged.

Basketball has had way more high-level success than football in the modern era. Some long and deep valleys, too ...

Fans are mostly about football, though. I still remember T-shirts from '89 that celebrated the basketball championship and the Rose Bowl win. Two accomplishments definitely not on the same plane .....

tl;dr for the whole thread:

* ScooterTooter is fixated on the universe where Gentry stays at QB. He believes that, in this universe, Gentry would win the job and prosper.

* ScooterTooter believes that a coach would willingly risk @#$&ing away a season just to play the long game and develop a young QB who would otherwise be 2nd/3rd/4th string.

Here's my perspective: Jim Tressel 6, Lloyd Carr 1

You want close? None other than Brady Hoke played OSU close a couple of times in losses. Harbaugh has done so twice, also.

Lloyd was lucky that he had significant overlap with John Cooper.

How 'bout 17 years?

Anecdote: I watched Loyola-Chicago play Nevada-Reno in basketball in Chicago a few weeks ago. Considering its location and Group-of-Five level, I was amazed at how many Nevada fans were in the arena. They seem to travel well (half-serious here).

Same here, except for the farm. :)

I was grocery shopping and cooking. It's my personal policy to not watch Michigan football games in real time unless I'm in the stadium. Obviously not for everyone, but I think it's good for my mental health.

I don't think RichRod is useless, but look what he did at Arizona (non-football stuff aside).

Without any alums submarining him, he made some of the same dumbass recruiting calls that he did at Michigan. It might've even been worse.

I was watching through Arizona blogs. Every year it seemed that he took about 15 or so "athletes" (who, in RR's world, could cover all non-line positions). Then he'd seem to remember the O-line. It's not clear that he ever remembered the D-line. :)

Crime infested? Let's not be silly. Most neighborhoods in NYC are very safe. $7M would buy you a decent lifestyle. (Not that I believe Harbaugh would be interested .....)

I wonder how Sims and Gemon Green (who were more coveted as recruits than Gray and Faustin) are doing.

It's easy to imagine an egomaniac like Coach K not wanting there to be any chance of his successor outshining him in any way. (Aside: It's interesting that none of his former assistants have done really well.)

As for Stevens, would he be comfortable cheating (like Coach K almost surely does) to pull in multiple top recruits every year? Would he want to deal with all the AAU and shoe-company nonsense? Recall that he didn't coach at a school where any of that was necessary.

No, I'd guess that Stevens is happy where he is (NBA).
