Somebody was reading Jay Bilas on ESPN this morning.

02/15/2019 - 2:05pm I think you just answered…

I think you just answered your own question.  The NFL is nearly unwatchable.  I think people are hoping this will be a more entertaining product.

02/15/2019 - 1:57pm I actually think that they…

I actually think that they might blow Maryland out tomorrow.

02/15/2019 - 1:13pm I kind of want it to work. …

I kind of want it to work.  I don't know what exactly it is about the NFL, I can't put my finger on it, but I know that I cannot watch it.  I find it really boring and really irritating.  I only watch college football.  The AAF actually looked vaguely interesting to me and kind of made me want to watch more.  It has been a long time since the NFL did that.

02/15/2019 - 12:00pm Volleyball.

Volleyball.

02/14/2019 - 12:52pm That is exactly like my son!…

That is exactly like my son!  Only it took him 18 months with training wheels when he was six.

02/14/2019 - 11:56am Really?  Honestly I think…

Really?  Honestly I think that uniform, as presented, looks terrible on Iggy.  I like the second pick of it on Matthews, and I think it will be a really good look for Poole and Simpson, especially.  I just don't think that Iggy was the correct..... model for this uniform.

02/13/2019 - 3:45pm Beilein has but one answer…

Beilein has but one answer to any kind of defense that is played against his team right now.  His team needs to make shots.  I think his exasperation directed at the refs last night was partly misdirected frustration with our inability to make outside shots.  If you have watched him on the bench, Beilein has done so many facepalms over our shooting and general offensive execution in the last month that I am guess both his face and his palm are getting sore.  Our starting backcourt was 1 for 12 from three.  It is just not happening if that is the case.

02/13/2019 - 3:32pm You just posted this because…

You just posted this because for some odd reason you want to argue.  I am not a "casual" Michigan basketball fan.  I have forgotten more about Michigan basketball than you have ever known.  I said nothing about "offensive beauty" nor did I comment on any flaws on offense.  I said I want to get to the time of year when they face teams who aren't as familiar with them.  You found a way to make that a controversial take.  Good job sport.

02/13/2019 - 6:56am Didn’t watch this game.  Had…

Didn’t watch this game.  Had a bad feeling about it all week, apparently for good reason.  A couple of thoughts, nonetheless.  1) You have to fuck up BAD in order for Beilein to engage in ejection-level conduct.  The refs should be doing some self-reflection.  2) I am more interested in a “three-peat” BIG tourney championship than I am the regular season title.  With the amount of single plays and terrible refs, winning the regular season is as much luck as anything else.  3). This is the time of year where I am really ready to see this team play out of conference in the tourney.  These teams know each other so well and are so familiar with what everybody runs, personnel, and tendencies that games really start to become slogs.

02/12/2019 - 6:27am Who all are these people…

Who all are these people that you are talking about?  Who is Fernando?

02/12/2019 - 6:14am My original position is that…

My original position is that Duke should not be considered one of the best college basketball teams of all time if they are an early exit from the tournament.  I'm comfortable with that position.

02/12/2019 - 6:10am There are a lot of people…

There are a lot of people who would read this exchange and believe that you guys wsee messing with me.

02/11/2019 - 5:28pm Blah.  There is the best and…

Blah.  That is a cop out.  Analytics are good fodder but games are played between the lines.  We were the "better team" over OSU by any metric going into The Game last year. Sure glad we had that going for us, so the actual outcome didn't matter.  Because we were better!  Phew.

The best team wins the title. The rest lose.

02/11/2019 - 3:47pm Neither perspective is …

Neither perspective is "right or "wrong."  It is subjective.  It depends on how much you value you put on championships.  Perhaps my perspective would be different if college basketball was decided in a "seven game series" but it isn't so why flip the script like that?  If Duke is the best team they will win the title.  If not they can kick rocks.

02/11/2019 - 3:38pm We would not have been one…

We were the second best team in the country last year.  A team can do nothing about the format of the post-season, they can only win their games.  Texas AM was better than UNC last year, as is evidenced by them beating UNC by like 25 points when they played each other.  So, our win over a team like Texas AM does not "mean less" than beating UNC because AM destroyed UNC.  Teams are only as good as they play when the chips are down.  That is what makes March Madness the best thing in sports.

02/11/2019 - 2:54pm In terms of being considered…

In terms of being considered the best of all time?  Yes.  They have the same impact.  Neither team is part of the GOAT discussion in their respective sport/league due to the fact that they did not win the relevant championship.

02/11/2019 - 2:28pm I believe the 17-1 Patriots…

I believe the 17-1 Patriots team is completely disqualified from the all time greatness conversation based on their failure to win the Super Bowl.

In my opinion, regardless of the format of the post-season, winning the relevant championship of whatever league/division you are in is the threshold to entering or existing in the conversation.

This years Alabama football team was the latest "best team there ever was" until they got their face stomped and now they are just the answer to the question "whose ass did Clemson kick that one year?"

02/11/2019 - 1:58pm Wait a minute....?   This is…

Wait a minute....?   This is not how things work.  Neither ESPN nor anybody else is going to talk about this Duke team for more than 10 seconds if they don't win it all.

If they win the national championship we can get into all that.  College basketball teams are not crowned all-time greats on February 11.  I don't care how great they look right now, if they lose to a #8 seed in the second round they are not all time great anything.

02/11/2019 - 12:49pm He goes "Oh, it looks like…

He goes "Oh, it looks like we got a purist in the house."

Great stuff.

02/11/2019 - 11:54am I think there are some…

I think there are some positions he has long held that he has come to realize are not always supported or possible and he does not want to double back on long held positions.

02/11/2019 - 10:04am That is a really funny scene…

That is a really funny scene.  I recommend it to all.

02/08/2019 - 5:26pm If we are being completely…

If we are being completely honest, it is nearly impossible to believe that Shae Patterson was caught “unawares” by the happenings at Ole Miss.  He was the #1 ranked QB recruit in the nation.  We are being completely obtuse to believe that Ole Miss did not “pick up the tab” for him on occasion.  Right?

02/07/2019 - 3:08pm Think about it a bit.

Think about it a bit.

02/07/2019 - 2:37pm I think that is basically…

I think that is basically apathy because they don't really believe that what they are learning is particularly related to their future existence.  If elementary and middle schools had a curriculum that was focused 30-40% on coding, computer literacy, computer programming etc., I think kids would eat it up.  As it stands, my son completed an assignment last night regarding the planet Pluto and truly had a look in his eyes that said "kill me, just kill me now."  Why?  Because that kid is never going to need to know a damn thing about Pluto in his life and he damn sure doesn't care about it now.

02/07/2019 - 2:23pm I waited for two years to…

I waited for two years to read this sentence.

Better late than never, I guess.

02/07/2019 - 1:36pm God himself could not help…

God himself could not help the Pistons.

(I am assuming God is a good shooter).

02/07/2019 - 10:50am Dude, I take both of my kids…

Dude, I take both of my kids to school every day.  They haven't been hurt yet in this very grueling process.

02/07/2019 - 9:32am My oldest son has a real…

My oldest son has a real aversion to sports.  I know that it is a big hook for a lot of families.  I grew up on sports, nearly all my friendships resulted from sports.  It is hard to parent a son who is aggressively disinterested in them.  It is pretty isolating, actually.

02/07/2019 - 9:26am Wow.  I believe this thread…

Wow.  I believe this thread is probably done now, also.

02/07/2019 - 9:04am How is it a sheet of ice…

How is it a sheet of ice when it is 40 degrees outside!?!

02/07/2019 - 9:00am Well said.  Out of the 8…

Well said.  Out of the 8 days that my district has been off, probably four or five have been legitimate.  Calling today off was a joke.

02/07/2019 - 8:53am I would agree with you if it…

I would agree with you if it was not 35 degrees and raining outside.

02/07/2019 - 8:49am ^^^

I am not adverse to…

^^^

I am not adverse to snow days.  9 inches of snow still accumulating during morning rush hour and 0 degrees outside?  Sure.  That is a thing.  Keep them home.  But this is Michigan.  The weather is always weird and we can have harsh winters.  But life goes on.  There used to be "main road only" days for busses and it was all good.  Frankly, this day should not even have been that, at least where I live.  The roads were fine and well treated.

02/07/2019 - 8:44am Neither.  Or both, like in…

Neither.  Or both, like in the same way that somebody could have rigged my car to explode when I started it up this morning.  There is always that risk, too.

02/07/2019 - 8:41am I would take them to sled or…

I would take them to sled or throw snow balls but there is NO SNOW.  It has just been rain since yesterday at noon.

Regarding my kids going to school, I don't know, I guess it is just that I went to school, all my friends went to school, literally like 99.999% of all kids I know go to school, so I guess I was just "following the crowd at chow time."  It was not really something that I thought about.  Perhaps I should have.

In the last week, I have gone sledding, made a snow man, gone to the arcade, shoveled snow with both kids, gone to two movies, taken my older son to the gym twice, taken my younger kid to the mall twice, went to a basketball game, made posters, made a photo album, gone swimming twice, and drove to Frankenmuth literally just for the drive.  I'm out of stuff, XM.

02/07/2019 - 8:20am OK.  I hereby concede that…

OK.  Here you go.  I hereby fully concede that there is climate change and man-made global warming exists.

Send the kids to school.

02/07/2019 - 8:14am They were treated.  They are…

They were treated.  They are fine.

02/07/2019 - 8:11am It is my opinion that two…

It is my opinion that two-working parent families has a lot to do with it.  For five days out the week, my wife and I see our kids for about a total of 4 waking hours per day.  One of them is used getting ready for school, one for dinner, and one for homework.  It certainly is not ideal.

Nonetheless, I don't see any issue with schools emphasizing those ideals.  I certainly see them as being as important as being able to list all state capitals.

02/07/2019 - 7:59am I may have used a bit of…

I may have used a bit of hyperbole.  I agree that schools should have been closed last Wend and Thursday.

02/07/2019 - 7:58am No, what I am saying is that…

No, what I am saying is that I am not an f-ing scientist and cannot comment on global warming or climate change, nor am I even trying to.  From what I have heard and read, I'm leaning toward yeah, probably.

What I am saying is that I live on a back dirt road in the middle of the ice storm and my road was fine, all of the roads leading to the expressway were fine, and I drove 40 miles to Detroit in 35 minutes.

02/07/2019 - 7:54am There will be school…

There will be school tomorrow down state.  It is going to be 50 degrees today.  Then again, the puddles at bus stops could pose a hazard to those without boots so I guess we will have to wait and see.

02/07/2019 - 7:52am Snow, ice, and cold in the…

Snow, ice, and cold in the winter is nothing new.  I have been alive for 39 years and all of those things have happened every year.  I can't comment on 1978 or before that, but since '79 winter has been winter.

02/07/2019 - 7:49am No, I like my pull-ups.  I…

No, I like my pull-ups.  I don't even have to get up to pee.

02/07/2019 - 7:44am I would have gladly "risked…

I would have gladly "risked life and limb" today to take my kids to school on the completely fine roads.

02/07/2019 - 7:41am If you find a way to turn…

If you find a way to turn this into a conversation about climate change my head is going to explode.  Don't make my head explode.  Please?

02/07/2019 - 7:33am I live on a "back road." …

I live on a "back road."  They were fine this morning.  And not fine because I am like "truck guy" who drives 85 mph on every road and weaves in and out of traffic while giving people the finger.  I am typically uneasy and overly cautious in winter conditions.  They were literally completely fine, and I live in the bulls-eye of where the storm hit.

And even if the busses can't get to back roads, 90% of all parents have the means to get their kids to school on their own.  At some point, all of this becomes not my problem.

Send the kids to school.

02/07/2019 - 7:26am Crazy weather happens,…

Crazy weather happens, though.  It has always happened.  They are now canceling school without good reason.  If there are four or five roads in a district that the busses would have trouble on, fine, but those parents need to find a way to get their kids to school.  I am not a "get off my lawn" guy about snow days.  I am happy for my kids when they get a couple.  But in some areas they are getting to the point where this semester of school is going to be a wash.  A lot of kids depend on routine big time to learn.  They are turning into zombies right now.

02/06/2019 - 9:22am Excellent win.  Really…

Excellent win.  Really dialed in offensively.  Movement leads to space, space leads to makes.  Getting good shots is hard work, they really put in the work in this one.  I think Simpson needs to clean up his pick and roll give backs to Teske.  That play is there but he needs to make the right pass instead of the “cool” pass.  Aside from that (and Livers please make a bunny), no complaints.  Good look for Michigan last night.
