Yes, I think you're on to something.  He even tweets about MGoBlog.  I think Maizen's/Bluey's true identity has been uncovered!

Sounds like a great kid who's very talented and Blue through and through!  I'll certainly be in his corner (no pun intended).  Even before he works his way into the defensive rotation, he may be a good punt returner for us.

Seth, for the most part the prioritization that you have laid out in this thread makes sense.  But I humbly suggest that easily identifying "new" posts be moved up higher on the priority list.  It's a big deal for me and I have seen others mention it as well.  I used to stop by a lot to see what new posts there are on a thread I was interested in; now, not so much because it's too time-consuming to tell what's new (other than scroll to the end).  That's got to be significantly hurting your traffic.

I can upvote and downvote, but it looks like everyone's point totals are static regardless of comments, upvoting, or downvoting.

3 teenage sons.  I'm in denial about the upcoming college expenses.

Just cracked open a growler of Bent Paddle 14 ESB, an excellent example of an underappreciated style of beer, which I picked up on my way through Duluth earlier this week.

06/13/2018 - 11:41pm But his point is that…

But his point is that different cities have drawn their boundaries in different places.  If you go to the outer reaches of Columbus proper, the feel is indistinguishable from the suburbs.  Thus, Columbus has urban and suburban areas within it, while St. Louis has just urban (an oversimplification, I'm sure).  So when you compare statistics like crime and poverty of Columbus proper and St. Louis proper, you are not comparing apples to apples.

I hate the new banner.  It's not clear whether you're visiting a sci-fi movie blog or a Michigan sports blog.  I loved each of the past two banners on the old site.

06/13/2018 - 1:01pm I agree with most of what…

I agree with most of what others have said, but your point about not being able to immediately find new posts is at the top of my list for things I hope get changed/fixed soon.  On the old site, if there was a topic I was interested in, it would not be unusual for me to check back in an hour to read the new material.  Now, I just won't re-visit for that purpose because I can't figure out which post are new.  I would think this will greatly reduce the number of clicks/visits and thus assume this is something the staff is going to want to fix ASAP.

I might be wrong, but I don't think Maizen was cratered.  I think even he was embarrassed at how wrong he was with his "Fire Beielin" posts, causing him crawl into a hole somewhere in the spring of 2017, only to resurface in April 2018 as Bluey.

I never saw that man's ass in 2.0, but it seems omnipresent in 3.0.

06/03/2018 - 6:31pm Yeah

but at least he can still do those March Madness commercials with Charles Barkley and Spike Lee.

05/28/2018 - 3:09pm I can't believe

I can't believe it took anyone this long to mention basketball.  I think I would pick either 2013 vs. Louisville or 2018 vs. Villanova because either one gets us a national title while none of the football games do that.  If it's limited to football, I'll join those voting 2016 OSU.

05/28/2018 - 2:59pm Agreed

But if all of the top teams go 2-2 vs. each other it won't achieve its intended purpose.

05/15/2018 - 7:44pm The man needs dough

to invest in larger, better Super Soakers for future locker room celebrations!

05/12/2018 - 5:54pm and

without any carries for loss.

05/04/2018 - 9:32pm Same here

damn esophegal valve won't close, esp. at night.  Omeprazole works OK, but seemingly a little less each year.

05/02/2018 - 2:03pm Yes

I'm confident that the offensive coaching will be better next year -- more focused and consistent -- and that the results on offense will improve as a result.  To piggyback off of your last sentence, 2018 has a chance to be special and I hope we didn't blow it by losing some of the benefit of player development in 2017.

04/23/2018 - 1:26pm If this was the case

Pep easily could have said something much less quotable, like "we're just real happy to have so many capable QBs who can step up and make plays," "it's just too early to tell," just about anything instead of a quote that seems to imply that he's been waiting for someone to step up and no one has.

04/23/2018 - 12:42pm Sounded like a challenge to the QBs esp Shea

when Pep said there is no leader and he would have liked one to have stepped up "yesterday."   Especially when contrasted with the many short answers and non-answers, this shot across the bow stood out to me.

04/17/2018 - 1:16pm None of this recruiting crap matters

until we beat our rivals.

Oh, wait, we did?

04/14/2018 - 11:01pm I'd like that

04/10/2018 - 4:06pm When's the deadline for declaring for the NBA Draft?

I'm not sure how much more of this I can take!

04/10/2018 - 2:27pm Nunez

Ironically for a Beilein team, our biggest weakness headed into next year is outside shooting.  JB might have to turn to Nunez (and Castleton) provide minutes to help space the floor, even if under other circumstances he might have had Nunez redshirt.

04/10/2018 - 2:24pm I enjoyed that tape

I try not to get too hyped from high-school highlight videos, but that was impressive.  CC definitely has some skillz.

Long arms, aggressive to the rim, nice outside shot, he even has some moves.

Anyone know anything about the level of competition he was facing?  Didn't look too good to me, but it was hard to tell.

04/10/2018 - 2:04pm Not a troll?

You sure haven't watched much Michigan basketball if you think Poole is 6'0".

04/09/2018 - 8:10pm But

But has the Pitino stench cleared out yet?

04/09/2018 - 7:53pm MSU

has done nothing to deserve the benefit of the doubt, that is certainly true.

04/09/2018 - 7:47pm Keep in mind

that this is a civil complaint drafted by the plaintiff's attorney.  If this were a complaint against Michigan, I'm sure many of us would be using that fact to at least withhold judgment until more facts come out.  As an attorney, I've read quite a number of complaints that allege facts that I knew were just flat out untrue.

That being said, if even 50% of this is true, MSU may be the most corrupt, reckless institution of "higher learning" ever.  Anyone who was involved in this should be fired at best and prosecuted if the evidence warrants.

04/08/2018 - 8:47pm You're right

I can't here anything.

04/08/2018 - 8:23pm 2020

So we're getting excited already about having a Top 5 or Top 10 class in 2020??  These kids are high school sophomores.  I knew this would be a long off-season but holy buckets.

04/08/2018 - 2:35pm Revisionist History

The entire first half and the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half it was not raining.  We scored 3 points in the first half.  Everyone knew the storm was coming and that it would be difficult to catch up when it hit.

04/08/2018 - 2:30pm This seems to be the consensus

Maybe this is one of the reasons the defense is so much better than the offense.

The defense is cohesive and has a leader.  The offense . . . not so much.

04/04/2018 - 5:46pm I'm a Z fan

but I agree with you that pulling back in the minutes played could be a good thing for him given that he is expected both to run the offense and to get in the shirt of the other team's PG.

I am also intrigued by the notion that DDJ or Brooks could play some at the 2 depending on matchups.  I can't see Poole being ready to consistently give us 30-35 minutes per night there.

I agree with Brian and you (I think) that even a static Simpson is the starting PG.  For those with a different opinion, did you watch the tournament?  He pretty much completely shut down every PG we faced.  Just totally dominant on that end of the court.  At least half of Man Bun's points came during the brief periods when Z was not guarding him. And he contributes on offense with his drives and a low TO rate.  I fully understand the problems caused by his poor shooting, but I just think it's unlikely anyone else, particularly a freshman, is going to be such a huge upgrade on offense to balance the defensive downgrade.

That said, Beilein does have a challenge getting enough shooters on the court to run his offense with Simpson at the point and Duncan, MAAR, and (probably) Mo gone.  Maybe we'll see Livers more at the 5 with Mathews at the 4 with the idea that both wing players would be great shooters?  Just thinking out loud here . . .

04/03/2018 - 1:39pm Livers

really showed some potential in January, at least hitting open 3s at a nice clip.  Then that skill seemed to disappear.  With another year of work, he should be a guy you can't leave open on the perimeter, helping our spacing and keeping the lane open for Mathews and Simpson.

04/03/2018 - 1:30pm Recruiting Class

You are more realistic than most on this board.  This year, we filled in and then some for those we lost by developing those already in the program in 2016-17, with some contributions from freshmen Poole and Livers.  I expect next year to be similar.  We can expect further development from Simpson, Mathews (please return), Teske, Livers, Poole, and maybe Watson, Brooks, or Davis.  I expect the frosh to play a role similar to Poole this season -- eating some minutes as backups and providing some scoring punch off the bench.

It's unrealistic to expect freshmen who are not one and dones to start for a Top 10 outfit, which is what I hope we are consistently next year.  The good news is that based on the development we see most years from Beilein teams, it is reasonable to expect this even with only modest contributions by the freshmen.  Rinse and repeat for 2019-20.

04/03/2018 - 1:17pm Yeah

he gone

04/03/2018 - 12:59am DeJulius

is the shiny new object for many.  None have ever seen him play in college.  I like him just fine, and am confident he will develop into a very strong PG for us in time, but to project him as the starter over junior Simpson is expecting way too much.  Without Simpson we don't beat Houston or Florida State.  And he'll be better next year.

04/03/2018 - 12:50am The last couple months

has been a blast

04/03/2018 - 12:40am Part of it is

that we have some atypical Beilein players in Matthews and Simpson whose forte is not outside shooting.  I'll take the tradeoff given where it got us this year.

Maybe Coach B will figure out a way to improve the outside shooting a notch or two next year while maintaining the outstanding defense that got us to the Final Four.
