Rewatch the Orange Bowl against FSU - Dalvin Cook ran a few wheel routes.

If the football program can find donors who fund European trips for 100+ people surely they can find someone who would pony up 2.8 million to buy pep out.

Can u breakdown the 70s and 80s into 3 or 4 year periods like u di the years after the 80s?

In the 5 years of the playoffs (15 games) only 3 times has the winner of one of the games scored less then 30 points.

Lateral moves?  Michigan is a tier 2 program.  OSU is tier 1 and Alabama is king of the tiers.

I'm pretty sure if you look at lines latitude on a map, LA is south of Ann Arbor.

2016 was an oline that was full of upperclassmen and multi year starters.

01/03/2019 - 3:52pm A lot of good responses in…

A lot of good responses in this thread.  I'd also add an offense that attacks the weakness of the opponent's defense.  In the first couple of years, especially the first, it seemed like Harbaugh had a little different offensive game plan depending on the opponent.  With a few exceptions, the last couple of years it seems like the offensive game plan is the same every week.  It's almost like they don't scout the opponent's defense to see what their weakness is and how best to attack the weak areas.

I got a good laugh out of this comment.  The reality is it was Tressel ball.  Once Tressel got up a few scores he would generally start milking the clock and making sure his offense didn't do anything stupid to let the other team back in the game.

01/02/2019 - 12:38am Yeah.  There's obviously a…

Yeah.  There's obviously a lot of areas where UM looks lacking compared to these top teams but glaring area to me is running back.  I don't think the UM running backs would sniff the field at these other schools.

01/01/2019 - 7:24pm This is going to get real…

This is going to get real ugly.

OSU's offense makes UM's look like something from the stone age.

I feel I see tackles on a lot of teams start a half second before the snap.

01/01/2019 - 4:57pm Don't need to throw it more?…

Don't need to throw it more?  As someone pointed out in a different thread, UM seems loaded at wr but yet the only Big Ten teams that threw less passes then UM this year were Wisconsin and Maryland.  When you add in the amount of targets the TE's get, the wide receivers were criminally under used.

12/31/2018 - 1:14pm The issue with Hoke was…

The issue with Hoke was almost all coaching ability.  UM had 11 players selected in the 2017 draft.  The most players UM has ever had selected in a single draft.  The direction of the program was trending down under Hoke but Harbaugh didn't take over a complete mess.

12/30/2018 - 10:00pm It won't be interesting for…

It won't be interesting for the SEC.  Unless RR has added a bunch of wrinkles to his offense, it'll get shut down by the better teams.  RR was truly an innovative offensive mind back in the early/mid 2000's when he introduced his offense to the world.  However, he never really adapted or added to it.  Other teams started to incorporate elements of his offense into theirs and instead of it being an offense no one had seen or tried to defend before, it became the offense that dcoordinators saw on a regular basis.  Defenses started to figure out how to defend it and it was the end of RR.

12/30/2018 - 9:42pm Yup.  He said Harbaugh has a…

Yup.  He said Harbaugh has a better won/lost record then Kelly did after his first 4 years at ND.  This is true but Kelly took ND to the BCS title game in his 3rd year.

He said Saban's won/lost record in his first four years at LSU and Alabama is slightly better then Harbaugh's first four years at UM.  However, in Saban's first four years at LSU he won 2 SEC titles and a National Championship.  In Saban's first 4 years at Alabama Saban won 2 SEC West titles, 1 SEC Championship and a National Championship.

In Dabo's first 4 full years (I say full because he took over midseason in 2008) he won 3 division titles and 1 ACC title.

12/30/2018 - 1:06am If you think the personnel…

If you think the personnel Michigan has is similar to Bama's....  Bama's oline is light years better then what Michigan has right now and UM's running backs aren't even close to Bama's.  Higdon wouldn't even see the field if he was on Bama's roster.

Kelly had ND playing in the BCS title game in his 3rd year at ND.

And 3 of those 13 points were thanks to a block punt.  If Wilson doesn't advance Shea's fumble they might have had to punt.

12/29/2018 - 3:42pm It'll be nice when UM has…

It'll be nice when UM has creative, innovative coaches.  Unfortunately II don't think that will happen during Harbaugh's tenure.

12/28/2018 - 2:50pm Yup.  As sad as it sounds,…

Yup.  As sad as it sounds, until Michigan can beat OSU, they have hit their ceiling:  10/11 wins with nothing but a NY6 bowl game to show for it.  In the Big Ten East if you cant beat OSU you probably aren't going to Indy, let alone the playoffs.

12/21/2018 - 3:22pm They play Alabama, Florida,…

They play Alabama, Florida, UGA and Missouri every year.  Florida, Georgia and Missouri are in the same  division and Bama is a protected rivalry.

12/21/2018 - 12:19am I don't know all the in's…

I don't know all the in's and out's of the recruiting rankings but in 2003 247 has Woodley as the 4th highest recruit in the country with a .9972 rating and Burgess as the 5th highest recruit in the country with a .9970 rating.

Graham's rating on 247 was .9930.  Baraka had a .9944 rating on 247.  DPJ had a .9925.  Henne had a .9924 and Shazor had a .9922.

12/10/2018 - 10:26am Imo the next level for…

Imo the next level for Michigan to get to is winning the East division and winning some Big Ten titles.

11/28/2018 - 10:05am Agree on the crossing routes…

Agree on the crossing routes.  They actually did call at least one against OSU. It was something like 3rd and 16 and they had DPJ crossing over the middle maybe 12-13 yds past the los.  He had a couple steps on his defender and if Patterson hits him in stride it's a first down with probably a good amount of yac.  Instead Patterson throws it short and DPJ had to go to the ground to make the catch and was short of the first down.  I think this was the play right before UM tried to go for it on 4th and 2 and got the penalty to make it 4th and 7 and then punted.

11/26/2018 - 3:06pm The catch is when they…

The catch is when they pulled Peters they put Patterson back in.  Patterson ran one or two plays and they pulled Patterson in the middle of an offensive possession and put in Milton.

11/26/2018 - 12:04am Didn't Patterson get sacked…

Didn't Patterson get sacked on the 2nd play of the game?

11/26/2018 - 12:02am Bruce went 5-4 against UM. …

Bruce went 5-4 against UM.  He just happened to go 9-3 every year and only won 2 big ten titles (one of which was in his first year, 1979, and most OSU fans attributed to Woody since it was essentially Woody's players).

11/25/2018 - 11:18pm Carr has said they had been…

Carr has said they had been to hoping to use that offense most of the year but Henne and Hart got hurt in the first couple games and it was a patchwork offense until everyone was healthy for the bowl game.

11/25/2018 - 11:12pm Nebraska was at home but…

Nebraska was at home but yeah, most of the other games were road games.

11/25/2018 - 11:07pm You won't see a UFR.  I can…

You won't see a UFR.  I can't remember the last time Brian UFR'd the OSU game when it was a loss.

11/25/2018 - 11:03pm The frustrating thing is UM…

The frustrating thing is UM rarely seems to play their best game of the year against OSU.  Since the start of this century what OSU games can we say UM played their best:  2000, 2003, the year Hoke won?, the game when Gardner was Superman but UM still lost?

11/25/2018 - 5:03pm True but in Dabo's first…

True but in Dabo's first full year they played in the ACC title game.  In his third full year they won the ACC and in his fourth full year they once again played in the ACC title game.

11/25/2018 - 4:00pm That's the key - figuring…

That's the key - figuring out to beat OSU.  Until that occurs UM has hit their ceiling - 10 or 11 wins with not much to show for it.  The East division goes through Urban Meyer and Ohio St.  Yesterday didn't give me much confidence that UM will be raising their ceiling anytime soon.

11/25/2018 - 12:53pm OSU's offense in 2016 and…

OSU's offense in 2016 and 2017 was much different then their offense in 2018.  In '16 and '17 their offense was centered around Barrett and his running abilities.  This year their offense wasn't centered around the running ability of the Haskins, but rather Haskins ability to pass.  Rewatch the 2017 UM-OSU game.  When Barrett got hurt and Haskins came in, OSU started to burn UM with the passing game and crossing routes.

11/25/2018 - 9:46am Learn and improve???

When…

Learn and improve???

When Haskins came into the 2017 game after Barrett got hurt, OSU killed UM with crossing routes.  What happened in 2018?  OSU killed UM with crossing routes and fake crossing routes.

11/25/2018 - 1:02am I don't think UM played…

I don't think UM played above their talent this year.  They are arguably the second most talented team in the Big 10.  The problem is there is still a good sized talent gap between UM and OSU.

11/24/2018 - 11:32pm Defense slowed OSU down the…

Defense slowed OSU down the last couple of years.  True but this was a different OSU offense.  With Barrett they heavily favored the running game.  OSU's running wan't that effective until late today.  When Haskins came into the game last year, OSU hurt UM's defense in the same way - lots of crossing routes.  OSU's offense last year vs Michigan was more effective with Haskins at QB then it was with Barrett.

11/24/2018 - 8:03pm Kelly made the BCS title…

Kelly made the BCS title game.  At this point I'd take a mix of 7-5 and 8-4 years if it meant every 6-7 years UM was winning the Big Ten and making it to the playoffs.

11/24/2018 - 7:47pm The problem was 20 of those…

The problem was 20 of those points were in garbage time after they were down 41-19.  It was right out of the old Carr playbook - stick with the inept offensive gameplan until you are down a couple scores and then finally decide to open it up.  As usual it was to little to late.

11/24/2018 - 4:36pm The sad thing is if OSU hadn…

The sad thing is if OSU hadn't made so many mistakes it would have been a lot worse.  They gifted UM with a TD on the fumbled kickoff.  They had something like 180 yds in penalties and shot themselves in the foot with the Martelli package before the half.

Username checks out.

11/24/2018 - 3:38pm If u told me before the game…

If u told me before the game started that with 9 minutes to go in the 4th OSU would have 150 yds in penalties, OSU would have fumbled a kickoff to gift UM a touchdown and UM would have 30+ pts I would have been thrilled.  Instead UM is getting taken to the woodshed.

11/24/2018 - 2:36pm The only way UM wins this…

The only way UM wins this game is if OSU starts making more mistakes.  UM is getting outcoached and outplayed.

I hope Harbaugh realizes  Michigan is going to need to score 50+ plus points to win.

It's probably massive YAC if the ball is accurate.

11/23/2018 - 11:43pm The key will be how close to…

The key will be how close to 100% is he.  Obviously, Chase at 75-80% is better then most players but I remember watching Henne play in 2007 when ihe wasn't close to 100% and probably shouldn't have been playing, or at least shouldn't have played the whole game.

11/23/2018 - 4:52pm Yup.  I don't care if UM…

Yup.  I don't care if UM wins 3-2 or 49-48.  Just win the game!!!
