The blind trust fan phase is inevitable in every hire. The bigger the coach the longer the phase or until the coach takes the program to the next level.
I remember all the "In Rod We Trust" signs. I remember Hoke going 11-2 and trusting/believing he returned us to being a consistent powerhouse program. Even up to the end of their gigs here you had the same "trust the coaches" fan base here that would berate if you question anything about the staff. This is no different than today.
Harbaugh is a great coach and I still believe he is the man for the job but that does not mean you aren't allowed to talk about his mistakes he's made here or question things. It's a sports blog for God's sake.

The problem isn't bluey. The problem is the vast amount of posters (like yourself) who go out of their way to create talk about him and his opinions rather than simply ignore him. In every thread his name comes up because fools here think they are funny if they comment about him sarcastically, even if he never commented first. And who gives a shit if Bluey is Maizen? No one should care. Having to read through all that bull shit to find actual interesting insight and opinions is killing the readability here.
You starting this topic is the perfect example. Let's not give him more oxygen...by creating an entire thread dedicated to him. Genius...

The sarcasm is obvious. Hence the "trolling trolls" comment. Especially when it's the same joke every thread over and over again. Some people here enjoy being trolls to other trolls more than reading/sharing actual Michigan related content here.

Most everything you brought up could have also been said about Hoke. He exceeded year 1 expectations with an 11-2 record. Finished year 3 with a comparable 26-13 record. He had a defense that was always ahead of the offense. His OL's were overall also a weak point. But he never got a 5 star grad transfer to come in and try saving the day.

Are you on the wrong sports blog? Cause your opinion makes absolutely no sense for Michigan football. "Game day ready" Speight threw 2 pick 6's while completing 44% of his passes against a team that didn't even reach a bowl. Then fumbled handoffs and over threw wide open guys until he got hurt. Our run game was actually the only positive thing we had on offense last year. How can you say the only thing that we were above average at is the thing that held us back on offense?
|06/04/2018 - 10:10am||In a perfect football world your QB is a great||
In a perfect football world your QB is a great leader. Speight was way too concerned about what social media thinks of him and used scripted lines to try pumping his team up. He also seemed a little oblivious to his lack of production on the field. O'Korn was never a fit in our system and never should of came here. Our coaches couldn't get him to improve a single bit in 3 years. Peters seems like a quiet withdrawn personality and Harbaugh clearly takes issue with his lack of command of the offense. He was the most talented QB last year but still put 3rd on the depth chart. I think Patterson will be a good player and leader but probably leave after this season. We need to maintain great leadership from the most important position on the field year in and year out.

"Harbaugh says he hasn’t named an OC yet. Hasn’t decided if he will or won’t. Staff will go through more self scout this week and next."
Part of me thinks Harbaugh is constantly being strategic and doesn't want the outside world to know what coach does what for competitive advantage.
The other part of me thinks oh shit this sounds dysfunctional like last season's offense.

1: Cole could have easily smoked weed and stayed on the team. Do you think he was the only guy on the roster who smoked? Not even close.
2: LTT never assaulted anyone. He took a vid of a drunk sexual encounter and I think posted it or sent it to people. Besides, the original argument was a recruit isn't going to commit to a school based on whether they think they can get away with assaults or not.
3: I don't think we even recruited Jones. Hand did not choose Alabama beacuse our classes are too hard. He wanted to play for championships and has done so. Hamilton went to Stanford...one of the few power football program to have a more difficult admissions than us. Including him hurt your stance.
4: I agree recruits pay most attention watching games on TV and what ESPN tells them about schools.

Not saying you, but I remember reading pre-season predictions on here how "Speight will have a tough decision to make" regarding going pro or not after 2017. I believe this was Brian's take as well.
I agree with you on your points of weakness. Also Rudock > Speight so I never envisoned Speight ever going higher than a 6-7 round pick at best.

1: Ann Arbor is home of hash bash. Weed is very prevalent here.
2: You honestly think high school kids are choosing their college based on if they can get away with assaulting people or not? This is about as stupid as a reason as I've heard yet. MSU would be full of 5 stars and more "litter" charges if this was true.
3: Our education is actually a reason why kids come here. A Michigan degree means more than most. Admissions is tougher than a lot of other schools and this is the only valid point I can find in your reasoning.
4: Yeah, kids go to blogs to decide where they are going...again so stupid. Every school with a large fan base has annoying fans. Kids want to go where there is a large fan base. They want all the follows on social media. They want the biggest stadium. They don't go to mgoblog to see that SMart WolveFan thinks we have a whiny fan base and decide to go elsewhere because of it.

He also said develop. You have to take Speight's regression into account here as well. Many on this blog expected he'd play himself into a top tier early round draft pick already. That and O'Korn never improving despite 3 years coaching from Harbaugh himself.
Rudock did improve here but he was much better at Iowa than everyone here suggests. His improvement here is to a lesser extent than most believe. The QB that beat out Rudock became a 3rd round NFL draft pick compared to Rudock going 6th round.

How about the anytime coach gets criticism people jump to the "Harbaugh is some terrible coach" narrative?
Harbaugh has a losing record here in big games. How can you act like this is false? However, he is a good coach and just the man we need to take us to the next level. But if he doesn't start winning the majority of the big games and more specifically our rivalry games this year then when will he?
|05/30/2018 - 1:42am||When are we going to stop||
When are we going to stop counting losses to rivals as some sort of positive? Who the hell cares if a loss seems like some sort of fluke or not? You act as if those msu losses don't matter because we should have won. It is still a critical loss. It's not a moral victory, just a loss. There is nothing good about it no matter how many times someone on here says bad luck, punt fluke, O'Korn, etc.

|05/25/2018 - 9:18pm||The passing game coordinator||
The passing game coordinator is in charge of the passing game. If the pass game sucks then how can Pep not be respsonsible?
The run game improved throughout the year and the guy in charge of that is off the team. Is it ok to blame Drevno for issues but not Pep? Speight regressed, O'Korn never improved, and Peters didn't look any better from Rutgers to South Carolina, arguably worse.
Your pass blocking sucks? Call more quick short high percentage routes. Your wide outs too young? Call more TE heavy sets. Why didn't Chris Evans get catches every game? Pep failed to scheme to his offense's talents and to mask weaknesses. This is on him.
Obviously we had multiple issues on offense last year and fault is not on one sole person but we have only had 1 year of Pep and the thing he is in charge of was an embarassment. Hopefully this year is different but Pep has been a poor coach for us thus far.

Our biggest weakness is and has been OT. The football gods blessed us with not one but two 5 star OTs in our own backyard. They're the 2nd and 3rd highest rated tackles in the entire country. Striking out on both of these guys is a major in-state recruiting fail. You can justify this with any excuses that make you feel better but that does not change the fact we messed up here.

Impressive acceleration, patience, lateral agility, balance, and will ocasionally truck dudes. Really gets north and south quick when he sees a seam for a bigger back. Not great top end speed and runs loose with the ball. Would like to see him drop the shoulder a little more often rather than relay so heavy on the lateral juke. Overall, underrated kid who I would love to see wear the winged helmet.
I think he'd pass all our backs in the 2018 and 2017 classes his freshmen season.

I will be happily surprised if this is the case. I'm not sure how versatile Pep is in his pass offense.
|05/22/2018 - 12:19pm||Side note:||
From reading various mesage board things it sounds like a GA was the main coach for WRs but in our Amazon football series a scene very clearly showed "WR coach" on the door frame to Pep Hamilton's office. It is quite odd to me a football coach would be given a coaching title to a position he doesn't plan to coach at all.
I too am ok with Jim M being our WR coach...but nothing more than that. He is a one year rental coach anyway.
|05/22/2018 - 12:04pm||2015 should never have been||
2015 should never have been this close of a game, period. But we let it be. And then all we needed to do is get a first down to end the game...we couldn't do it. We need to quit counting our close losses against rivals as some kind of positive thing.
As far as outcoahing dantonio that game...they had 20 first downs to our 10, outgained us in total yards 386 to 230, had less penalties than us, and we had 1 turnover to their 0. That does not seem like a game we outcoached anybody. We got outcoached last year, despite the bye week prior to msu, in the monsoon game. I'd say we were outcoached two out of three years by dantonio and our losses accurately reflect that.
|05/22/2018 - 11:33am||
If your player misses an
If your player misses an assignment you are telling me its not through any fault of his own actions but by simple chance? That 2015 game should never of been that close to begin with. We should have gotten a first down to end the game. Sypniewski was never a consistent long snapper. And we had a rugby punter who dropped the ball (his own fault, not random chance) and then foolishly had no idea what to do after he messed up.
If a player fumbles, again, it is not by some unknown power of luck that forces the ball to pop out. It is 100% the skill of the player. You could call Speights fumbles against Cincy bad luck but Harbaugh said it was becuase he hands the ball of with 1 hand instead of 2. Speight succesfully handed the ball off with 1 hand probably 99% of the time in his life. Is it bad luck that 1% he fumbles? No, with better technique he doesn't fumble.

|05/22/2018 - 11:15am||Why do you guys keep||
Why do you guys keep considering special teams play all luck based? Agressive punt block schemes, athleticism, misssed blocking assignments, bad snaps, and bad hands result in blocked punts.
Every single one of these things you can practice and improve on to gain enough skill where you should not have blocked punts unless the other team has more skill or found a weakness in your protection. Luck is not something you can practice to become extra lucky. Same with field goals. You can practice to improve your skills but you are not practing to improve your luck that a kick will go in.
|05/22/2018 - 11:06am||Luck: success or failure||
Luck: success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one's own actions.
So those kickers were not kicking the ball through their own actions but instead some intangible random chance decided what kicks were made and which weren't? Why even have kickers then? Let's just roll dice and hope "luck" is in our favor.

|05/21/2018 - 12:58pm||The idea that it is luck that||
The idea that it is luck that determines wins and losses in close games is retarded. We didn't magically get unlucky at crucial times in close games. We made mistakes or didn't play well enough to win. Just like other games we played well enough to win in close games. Simple as that. Luck, or chance, plays a very small role in games...like winning a coin flip.

WD is right. These have been used as excuses. 13 out of 14 years is ridiculous man, yet we hear some specific out of our control reason every year why we loss. The only reason we ever lose is simple and consistent. We didn't play good enough to win, or else we would have.
Blaming a talent gap? Weird...we have more talent than msu every single year but somehow they beat us 8 out of the last 10 years and we are their 'ohio state' game. Someone should fill them in on this talent gap "reason."

"The gameplans for the game the last two seasons speak louder than words."
Are you preaching moral victories here?
|05/18/2018 - 11:18am||Fair response||
Our offense was bad last year. Stating that fact does not mean I am trashing the whole offense. Speight was literally playing at a really poor level his last 7 starts. Stating that is not trashing Speight. That is not a personal knock. Facts are facts. Hell, even his own girlfriend told him he wasn't playing great to his face.
I also believe Speight would have played better than O'Korn (minus Purdue) because that is a low bar. Peters, however, I doubt Speight would have outplayed. But that is just fan debate that can not be proven either way. Without everything I mentioned last post Speight has not proven he can succeed. His most recent play shows he would not have came close to 2016's first half season of play. Peters being 3rd on the depth chart behind O'Korn is a mysterious thing.
If Speight's play continued as it has his last 7 starts it was only a matter of time he lost his job. Even Brian began giving up on Speight, which I never thought I'd see that day. UCF, Illinois, and Maryland were the only 2016 games Speight played great, again surrounded by NFL talent and a better coach.
|05/17/2018 - 1:20pm||Isn't all the unsuccessful||
Isn't all the unsuccessful zone running we focused on the first half the year considered a massive fail with the game plan? It wasn't until we abandoned it that our running game greatly improved.
There is absolutely no way you can call the michigan state game a good game plan. O'Korn throwing 35 passes in monsoon weather is suicide. Especially when Higdon was running really good.
Our offense as a whole was obviously depressing last year. It's the coaches jobs to put their players in the best possible situation to succeed. If all these gameplans were so good do you believe our players were put in their best chance to succeed? If so, then why so much suck on offense? We have talent. I feel like you are saying all we were missing was execution and Brady Hoke mysteriously just started clapping in Carolina.
If your pass blocking sucks and all your QBs are struggling then shouldn't you scheme around that? Why all the deep play action dropbacks? Why not more 3 step drops and quick passes? Why the long routes?
|05/17/2018 - 12:47pm||Disagree||
The osu gameplan was clearly different compared to every other game last year. Against South Carolina we looked pretty similar offensively as we did the rest of 2017. We did not focus so hard on all the misdirection this game. We were still often relying on pass blocking we didn't have for long developing pass plays. Our mesh drags still looked slow and sloppy. Our QB read lost its decoy speed motion wing to make it just an obvious hand off. We also had multiple receivers end their routes in close proximity to each other instead of spacing the defense out.
Peters did not play great but by no means was this an impressive gameplan on offense.
