02/07/2019 - 7:20pm Pep has been looking for…

Pep has been looking for work for 2 straight offseasons now. I think he became uncomfortably aware how much his services are (un)wanted at the NFL/NCAA level.

If he wanted anything more than a positional coach this may have been his only option.

The best coaches will stay in the NFL/college.

02/06/2019 - 1:25am Why was Jedd Fisch loved…

Why was Jedd Fisch loved here but Pep just a scapegoat if they were both only following Harbaugh's orders? They held the same job position.

Maybe cause Jedd was actually good at his job here and Pep was not? How is this not obvious?

02/06/2019 - 1:15am You can't give Pep credit…

You can't give Pep credit for post Speight/O'Korn/Peters passing efficiency gains unless you also give him blame for the Rudock/good Speight to shitty Speight drop off.

That's like ignoring Rich Rod's 3-9 season and just commenting his teams always were 2 wins better than the year before after year 1.

01/29/2019 - 12:05am And even if he was an…

And even if he was an excellent recruiter (which he isn't) what kid would want to be recruited by a guy who Michigan has been trying to get rid of for 2 years and just got demoted. Getting recruiting by someone who is almost guaranteed to not be on the staff while you're a player there would make you want to commit elsewhere.

Pep is dead weight at this point.

01/27/2019 - 9:36pm Please never start a thread…

Please never start a thread here again. This is terrible.

01/27/2019 - 9:29pm I saw in a Facebook post…

I saw in a Facebook post Karan Sr said it "was a slap in the face" that other players received offensive awards at the banquet instead of Karan Jr.

I don't know if Karan Jr felt as slighted as Karan Sr about this but if so it certainly makes him sound more like a me guy rather than a team guy.

01/27/2019 - 8:57pm A great man once said "the…

A great man once said "the team the team the team." As a Michigan captain Karan's decision was "me me me."

01/24/2019 - 1:15am I miss this so much. Come…

I miss this so much. Come back old school Jim, we need you.

01/24/2019 - 1:12am So you are telling me he…

So you are telling me he chose to install a system here that our kids will never have enough time to learn?

Wow what a genius idea. Let's pay him more money.

01/24/2019 - 12:59am No, I do not believe he adds…

No, I do not believe he adds any value. His offensive philosophy is completely different than his new boss's philosophy. So keeping a round peg coach around to try fitting into our new square hole scheme is a bad plan. Just like when we had zone coach Frey and power coach Drevno on the same staff...it failed miserably.

Pep is not a strong recruiter and it's been a known fact that was never his strong suit. If you go by 247 rankings he is ranked the 470th recruiter. How can you say he has done good recruiting QBs when we have no idea how good/bad Milton, McNamara, or Johnson will be? All three are ranked lower than Peters and McCaffrey were so I assume you aren't basing his recruiting skills on pure rankings. And why couldn't we close on Harrison Bailey if Pep is so good at recruiting QBs? We led for him for close to a year.

He failed at being a NFL OC despite having Andrew Luck and got fired. You see that as a positive thing to have on our staff. I do not. He then was coaching on a team that went 1-15. And since then he has been dead weight on our staff.

Gattis should bring in someone who can actually help implement his brand new offense.

01/23/2019 - 12:52pm I'm not sure what you are…

I'm not sure what you are trying to say. Pep has no proof of developing or improving ANY quarterback. Tell me what credit you believe he has earned around here and why.

Speight - got way worse

Peters - never improved

O'Korn - never improved (and somehow was ahead of Peters on the depth chart...which was a shitty evaluation by the QB coach.)

Patterson - looked about the same quality as what I watched from his previous year tape.

01/23/2019 - 12:41pm For everyone who here who…

For everyone here who blindly assumes Pep will be good as a QB coach only.

Clearly Gattis was brought in to overhaul our current offense, which was part installed by Pep. The offensive philosophy of Pep and Gattis are very different. This is similar to when Harbaugh hired two different OL coaches on the same staff (Drevno and Frey) and it was a disaster. One was a zone guy and one was a power guy. Their dual coaching didn't mesh. It collided and it showed on the field. So now we have a QB coach for an offensive style in which is not his own or what he is comfortable with.

Other than wishful thinking please tell me how this is a good idea.

01/23/2019 - 12:21pm How do we know game plans…

How do we know game plans were great if they were never followed? Cause the internet told us so?

It's all hype and fluff until proven on the field.

01/23/2019 - 12:08pm As QB coach/Associate Head…

As QB coach/Associate Head Coach Pep went 1-15 with the Browns. He did almost as bad as humanly possible. He even had a future hall of fame LT while there. Your comparison sucks in an attempt to defend Pep's coaching abilities.

01/23/2019 - 11:58am Someone please correct me if…

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but our QB coach is going to make 500k more per year than his boss our offensive coordinator.

This is a complete joke.

01/23/2019 - 11:53am Apparently meritocracy only…

Apparently meritocracy only exist for our players and not our coaching staff. Harbaugh did the same thing with Drevno. For being as firey a guy as Jim is he sure lacks the marbles when it comes to getting rid of dead weight if he has a prior friendship with them.

01/23/2019 - 11:49am Remember how great Speight…

Remember how great Speight improved from Fisch to Pep? Me neither. Remember how prepared a RS freshmen Brandon Peters was to see the field under Pep? Me neither. Speight severely regressed under Pep's "overqualified" coaching and Pep couldn't get our most talented QB on the roster at the time to grasp the playbook after being in the system for 2 years. Meanwhile there are true freshmen QBs in the college football playoffs leading their teams every year.

If he was overqualified at any aspect of coaching then why won't anyone else hire him? He has been looking and interviewing for jobs the last 2 seasons and we are still stuck with him. We hired his replacement and still can't get rid of him. The only thing you got right is he is over paid.

You say he should do fine as the QB coach because...? He rode Andrew Luck's coat tails into people actually believing he was a good coach?

01/17/2019 - 7:03pm If Enos was a modern day…

If Enos was a modern day recruit he'd be the kid who commits/decommits to 5 different schools.

01/16/2019 - 10:02am Does meritocracy not apply…

Does meritocracy not apply to coaching staff? Why does Jim have such trouble letting friends go if they are failing at their jobs? What's more important, winning or being BFFs with Pep? His replacement is already hired and he STILL won't fire him.

01/11/2019 - 10:16am That's pure assumption…

That's pure assumption. Drevno interviewed for other jobs for 2 years before taking a job at USC. Pep also has been interviewing for jobs for 2 years now. If Harbaugh really does push coaches out than why in the hell would he wait multiple seasons to do so?

01/11/2019 - 10:08am I like how he got immediate…

I like how he got immediate production from multiple talented freshmen receivers. Maybe "all freshmen wr suck" is only true in an over complicated offense that doesn't take advantage of it's team's maximum talent.

01/07/2019 - 10:18am By "Drevno'd" do you mean…

By "Drevno'd" do you mean leave on your own accord because the head coach is too stubborn to fire you?

01/05/2019 - 10:18pm In each 3 of his last jobs…

In each 3 of his last jobs he has been a failure. He's been fired in his previous 2 before coming here (where he should be fired already). He rode Andrew Luck's pure talent into people thinking he is better at his job than he really is. Luck played his worst football while coached by Pep in Indy. Speight severely regressed while transitioning from Jedd to Pep. Who knows how good Shea could be with an upgrade from Pep.

He is getting 1 million a year to be a no tempo ball and chain to our offense. Why would anyone hire him in a 'what have you done for me lately' type of career field? Please baby Jesus let the lions steal our burden.

01/05/2019 - 8:38pm Everyone here loves to claim…

Everyone here loves to claim that Jim fired or got rid of Drevno and I've seen exactly zero reports stating so. Drevno was looking for a new job for a couple of seasons before he accepted something. Pep is deja vu. An under performing coach of Jim's that he refuses to fire despite lack of results. We can only hope someone hires him away from us similar to Drevno. Sack up Jim.

01/05/2019 - 12:02pm Yeah and the same exact…

Yeah and the same exact thing was supposed to happen to Pep last year and to Drevno the year before he left. They both were looking for other jobs but stayed here instead despite insider chatter they were on their way out.

01/03/2019 - 4:12pm When you have back to back…

When you have back to back different heisman winners the system is greater than the QBs.

01/03/2019 - 3:48pm Drevno did not get let go…

Drevno did not get let go. He found a new job and took it. If no one wants to hire Pep will Harbaugh actually fire him?

01/02/2019 - 12:50am Osu curb stomped us with…

Osu curb stomped us with their basic core plays. They did nothing fancy.

01/01/2019 - 12:27am You honestly think it takes…

You honestly think it takes up to 10 years to recover from a loss to Rutgers? So 2 and a half full recruiting classes? Come on man...

Let's just keep ignoring that Harbaugh inherited players that led all of the NCAA in players drafted his 2nd year here.

12/30/2018 - 12:53am The team, the team, the…

The team, the team, the...what's my current draft stock?

12/24/2018 - 3:22pm Does that mean any and all…

Does that mean any and all passing coordinators under Harbaugh deserve zero blame and zero praise?

12/19/2018 - 11:53am Or we could finally update…

Or we could finally update our offense and he'd be a great Big Ten RB. Our problem is we give most of Evans his touches at what is probably his biggest weakness. Running downhill between the tackles. Coaches are supposed to put their talent in its highest potential to succeed. Saquon Barkley had 54 catches his last year at PSU. Evans MIGHT reach 54 by the time his eligibility runs out. Evans is a space player. Design plays to put him in space and spread out the D. If we actually did that it would open up so much more for him when he did run between the tackles.

12/11/2018 - 1:06am Wrong. Rudock's production…

Wrong. Rudock's production was very similar to his junior year Iowa and senior year here. Speight's production his junior year here also is very similar to his senior year at ucla.

12/07/2018 - 11:55am Dude you can't even see the…

Dude you can't even see the receivers 80% of the time the way the TV cameras are set up. These WIDE OPEN receivers you speak of must have came from Chris Carter's "source."

Also if every single QB we have can't find their target then hmmm I don't know...simplify the system!

12/03/2018 - 7:16am Well at least he gets to…

Well at least he gets to play right away transferring to a D2 school.

12/02/2018 - 11:13pm I thought he left cause he…

I thought he left cause he kept getting caught on PEDs.

12/02/2018 - 11:11pm Who are our explosive RBs in…

Who are our explosive RBs in waiting?

12/02/2018 - 12:43pm I'm not against a Roundtree…

I'm not against a Roundtree hire but wonder how half the people here say Hart isn't qualified to be RB coach here and Roundtree who's resume doesn't even compare is ready to be our WR coach.

12/02/2018 - 12:37pm Freshmen WRs tend to make…

Freshmen WRs tend to make big jumps from frosh to soph years. We may never know how improved Jim M made our WRs compared to their natural progressions.

He was not a hot shot on the recruiting trail though.

11/27/2018 - 11:21pm And why didn't msu get…

And why didn't msu get torched by osu when they only sacked Haskins twice? The talent gap there is gargantuan. According to their high school player rankings Haskins should have thrown for 800 yards.

osu exploited mismatches by getting speedsters matched up with slower dudes against a terrible Don Brown game plan. And also Brown's refusal to put more speed into the game (Ambry Thomas).

11/27/2018 - 11:12pm Nope. Speed gap. Long and…

Nope. Speed gap. Long and Hill were always known for speed and quickness.

You just named very fast osu players vs slower Michigan players. Watson has talent. He has proven that DESPITE his ranking you're stuck on. He does not have speed/quickness. He has also proven that.

11/27/2018 - 11:02pm We had zero sacks against…

We had zero sacks against butgers, 2 against Indiana, and zero against osu. 2 total in our last 3 games combined.

It wasn't just osu we struggled to get to the QB but it was the worst.

11/27/2018 - 10:37am We lost 7 straight years to…

We lost 7 straight years to them. But as long as you are here explaining that "we should of" this or "if" that I feel oh so much better now...

Quit treating these losses as moral victories and blaming them on excuses.

11/27/2018 - 9:22am This is a terrible take. So…

This is a terrible take. So if we played the Citadel instead of ND week 1 our players would of been more mentally and physically prepared for osu?

If you can't "get up" for THE GAME then then you have no business playing in it or coaching it.

11/27/2018 - 9:14am I believe the late DL…

I believe the late DL movements started when Greg Mattison got here. You couldn't ask for a better DL coach but I do wish we could eliminate the late set ups.

11/27/2018 - 9:09am So much this^

So much this^

11/27/2018 - 9:03am And 3 of our 4 starting DBs…

And 3 of our 4 starting DBs were ranked highly. Long, Hill, and Kinnel were 65, 132, 189. Two of which will get drafted this year or next.

11/27/2018 - 8:57am Watson has been pretty darn…

Watson has been pretty darn good for 2 years and Metellus is our best safety this year. They both are known quantities and better than their HS rankings you presented.

The real gap was in speed and scheme. Brown foolishly believed Watson could keep up in a foot race against players much faster than him in man to man over and over again. You don't have to be a highly ranked HS player to out-quick a slower corner back.

You say they didn't play to their potential for essentially the whole season of course right up until they played us. I say our coaches had terrible gameplans. Why didn't we watch what worked against osu from Purdue, Neb, and Maryland. And then sprinkle some of those ideas into our offense? MSU has slower dudes all over the field and did really good against osu's offense. Why didn't we review those schematics in case we needed to tweak things? Why wasn't Ambry Thomas, who I read is the fastest player on the team, in when our biggest deficiency was speed and the player ahead of him was burnt toast?

We were over confident in what got us to the game ranked 4th and thought doing everything the exact same was a good idea. Last year, offensively we did well against osu because we broke tendencies and used tons of counters and misdirection all game.

11/27/2018 - 8:30am This is exactly what I told…

This is exactly what I told my brother. osu's 2 minute offense against PSU was all screens and drags. By no means should that have ever worked. That is basically their whole offense. Then about 1 every 10 balls they take a deep shot. They did not do a single play against us where I thought wow what a unique play.
