Also I literally cannot believe Mattison would do this. WTF.

So you've completely blocked the App State game out from your  mind, then?

There isn't.

We got the dream coach we all wanted.

"Saban and Dabo are not coming"

yes.  correct.  and you want to be Alabama north.  but that's Ohio state right now.

So there is no miracle cure, we got the guy we all wanted, and he brought us back to where Carr left off.

1997 was the exception.

Unless Harbaugh can recruit his ass off and get top (and I mean Alabama level) recruiting classes, we're going to remain top 25 but never top 5.

Nothing will change until we start getting similar or better level of recruits as Ohio.

Any Florida players sitting out?

This is getting stupid.  Bowl games are pointless now.

The only undersized OL was Dave Molk, who played pretty well.   Size doesn't make you a good player.  This isn't sumo.

Agree w/OP.  People wanting Harbaugh gone are, as OP said, willfully blind to how Michigan fared in the 1990's - early 2000's.  Sadly 1997 was the exception.

Bowl games are still crucial.  Gotta get that last win.

You beat me to it.  Had the file on my computer for weeks, was going to post it after the bowl game.

Except I went back to 1969 and included our records against MSU (32-17) and ND(15-16)

Anyway, you've also reached the conclusions I did.  We've got a good program.  But just 1 NC and a sprinkling of B1G championships here and there.  Good, but not Alabama.

Also people aren't appreciating what Harbaugh has done.  UM hasn't had 3, 10 win seasons this close to each other since the late 90's/early 2000's, and we haven't had this good of a record in the B1G since 2006.

EDIT:  also I am glad I am not the only person to take the time to make a chart like this :)

Surprised? no.  I was only allowing myself a faint glimmer of hope.

UM is good, not great.  OSU is Alabama level, and we're not.

11/26/2018 - 2:13pm That's the thing, just…

That's the thing, just watching them you can tell they are heads and shoulders more athletic than almost anyone they play.  Purdue they just quit for some reason.   Brian is correct that Gil and Watson were targeted all game long.  We need better talent before we can genuinely compete.

Hey if 10-2 was good enough for Lloyd, it's good enough for Harbaugh

11/25/2018 - 9:00pm boilerplate sportsball talk

boilerplate sportsball talk

"modernize the offense"

this always means throw more.  Because that's what OSU did this year, right?  clearly we have to emulate them.

" Brown’s scheme is a gimmick. "

"video game"

Is Deace channeling his inner Valenti?

This isn't hard to figure out.  OSU has better athletes at every spot, in depth.  They're Alabama.  We've developed an upper crust of good talent, just like we had in 2006.  This year OSU spotted talent mismatches again, just like OSU and USC did in '06.

The only way out of this is to get better athletes.  Top level guys at every spot.  People are complaining about coaching with no solution - who's the miracle coach who will fix everything?

11/25/2018 - 5:59am I remain surprised that in a…

I remain surprised that in a game where we give up 62 people are focused on the offense.

Defense was shredded top to bottom.

OSU has better talent, everywhere, and when they don't play down to the level of the opponent (Purdue, Maryland) they can crush almost anyone.  Unfortunately they get up for us.

OSU clearly picked on Watson w/the crossing routes.  He got burned more than a few times.

OL struggled and still put up 39.   This one was on the defense.

11/25/2018 - 5:46am "great" is a strong word, it…

"great" is a strong word, it'll be great if we win the bowl game.

8-1 conference finish is the best since 2006 (7-1).   Hate all you want, it's a fact.

yes others have pointed out Northwestern is going to the B1G championship.  Guess what? they don't have to go through OSU to win their division.

What we saw yesterday was UM still needs better talent.  We're still outmatched, especially on the lines.  Even when OSU struggles against teams like Maryland you can tell they have ridiculous athletes everywhere.

11/24/2018 - 3:00pm It doesn't help that…

It doesn't help that Patterson has been off today.  Throwing low and / or behind on every play.

And how does your 6 foot 8 TE who must have enormous hands drop so many passes?

11/24/2018 - 2:58pm Meltdown.   Total meltdown.

Meltdown.   Total meltdown.

OSU  quit against Purdue and play down to the level of their opponents, like Maryland and Purdue, and get up for UM, and we're seeing them at their best.

o-line still not up to the task, more than anything else.

11/17/2018 - 11:47am lol a lot of o-linemen do…

lol a lot of o-linemen do the same thing.  they usually try to coach them not to do that, but if the player thinks he needs to position himself differently to gain an edge, they'll do it anyway.

11/12/2018 - 7:47pm Correct.

11/11/2018 - 1:22pm tv showed hill walking down…

tv showed hill walking down the tunnel, wasn't limping or staggering , didn't need help, so if it's a concussion I would guess it isn't severe.  Maybe he misses next week but probably back for Ohio, I would assume.

Also curious if Winovich is ok.  lol, he landed right on top of another player's bent knee, impacting the crotch area ....

I hope they're able to rest some guys against Indiana.  Hope Peters gets some playing time next week.  He should have gotten some more Saturday if he's the true #2.

11/07/2018 - 10:08am late to this thread but…

late to this thread but Brandstatter is pretty rough as PBP.     I'm not at the point of wanting him replaced, but getting players wrong is very irritating, yeah.  Get some new glasses or ask for a bigger monitor in your booth or something.   You'd think he'd have learned what good PBP is from Beckman.

Shortly after the game the Purdue head coach's wiki page had his job description changed to "Urban Meyer's Daddy".   Was changed back sometime Sunday, but I got a chuckle.  Also this is the first time I've tried to embed an image on the new site so here's hoping it works :)

Faked the FG attempt

At this point MSU attempts fakes often enough that I'd just tell my players to always expect a fake.

10/18/2018 - 11:04am I don't know about your…

I don't know about your entire OL being a "trouble spot" in the graphic above.  Even w/the troubles MSU has had w/OL  I saw several times your interior 3 OL push PSU's DL around.  I think this game will be close.  Or maybe I'm just telling myself that because I don't want to deal w/my boss (who went to MSU) on Monday.

10/18/2018 - 11:01am After watching the PSU v MSU…

After watching the PSU v MSU game, I don't see how you can label their entire offensive line as a trouble spot.  I saw several times MSU's interior OL handle PSU's line on run plays just fine.

Face it folks, MSU is better than we like to think.  This will be a close one.

"This offense puts a lot of pressure on everyone on the field to do their job perfectly on every play. "

As opposed to Hoke's style of offense, where people could screw up half the time and everything would work just fine.... oh wait, uh... yeah, I'll take Harbaugh, still, thanks.

Also Northwestern had a bye week before us, so more time to prepare something new to throw at us.

10/02/2018 - 11:41am The defense has been the…

The defense has been the strong point during the entire duration of the Harbaugh era.   Don Brown's been particularly good at shutting teams down in the 2nd half.  I will never understand why people are worried about the defense when the offense continues to be the weak spot.

10/01/2018 - 11:20am Maryland has had a bye week…

Maryland has had a bye week before us, just like Northwestern did.  I predict another close game.

And then Wisconsin has a nice warm-up scrimmage against Nebraska the week before they play us.

10/01/2018 - 10:54am I figured it was all just…

I figured it was all just talk but after that absolutely ridiculous "holding" penalty against Higdon, I'm starting to think these guys clearly have it out for Harbaugh.

09/06/2018 - 9:07am Carr was 6-7 vs OSU

Carr was 6-7 vs OSU
        10-3 vs MSU
         5-4 vs ND
         6-7 bowl games

were people expecting Harbaugh to do better?  The only thing you could count on was beating MSU, and that was at least partly due to  MSU being not very good every year.  OSU, ND, bowl games were always competitive.

06/04/2018 - 9:57am playcalling wasn't an issue

playcalling wasn't an issue IMO,  plays were there but we had QB's that couldn't get it done.  OSU game was good example of this IIRC.

who else are you going to get if not Harbaugh?  we got the guy everyone wanted.

EDIT:  2016, three games lost by 5 points.  that was the year UM had a chance to win a championship.  Wouldn't have ever happened under Hoke even w/same talent. We are now rebuilding, IMO.   If defense remains where it was (very good) and offense just moves up to slightly above average, we'll contend again.   2018 hinges on QB play IMO.
