02/15/2019 - 8:42pm What do you know about…

What do you know about Northwestern in 2019? Google the university's financial situation. Even with the typical separation of athletic and academic financials, in the wake of the new athletic training facility, you're going to be hard pressed to see NU drop significant coin on starting a new varsity program. Particularly one with the start-up costs of hockey. NU is a university with an 11-figure endowment and a spending freeze. Hockey ain't happening.

02/15/2019 - 3:59pm Really skeptical that…

Really skeptical that Northwestern is going to pull the trigger on this any time soon. Like, not gonna happen.

02/12/2019 - 7:58pm Right, but you have to admit…

Right, but you have to admit that these two cases are basically ratings bonanzas in Metro Detroit that get dragged up on an almost predictable basis.

02/12/2019 - 7:56pm One of my mom's coworkers…

One of my mom's coworkers just happened to have a blue Gremlin and got questioned multiple times. Crazy stuff.

02/12/2019 - 7:47pm I swear, there's a seasonal…

I swear, there's a seasonal news cycle for both the OCCK and Jimmy Hoffa, where every other year they're chasing a new lead in Oakland County, and then in the off summer they're digging up another backyard because some dying mobster finally confessed to where they buried Hoffa.

Ratings!

02/12/2019 - 2:47pm The common consensus, since…

The common consensus, since those seats went in during the early 00s, is that they're generally inferior across the board. The sight angles are weird. The reason so many sat empty for so long wasn't just that many didn't sell, but that a lot of people who held them also had tickets down below and actively chose to stay down there. The only advantage was the food.

But, hey, YMMV.

02/12/2019 - 9:07am Until you sit up there.

Until you sit up there.

02/10/2019 - 8:38pm Woo, that script blue jersey…

Woo, that script blue jersey is solid. Only wish they hadn't decreed that only the Block M was acceptable on the shoulders.

02/08/2019 - 12:04am I'm not going to sugarcoat…

I'm not going to sugarcoat it: I didn't love the Bo statue, don't love this idea, either. Less is more. It's not about individual people, it's about the university.

02/07/2019 - 11:34pm Not only the longest serving…

Not only the longest serving member of congress, but the son of a congressman, and as a 15 year old, a congressional page in the room when FDR gave the "day of infamy" speech after Pearl Harbor.

The greats are going.

02/07/2019 - 11:31pm Will they swap it out every…

Will they swap it out every couple days for a Drew Henson statue, just like when he played?

02/06/2019 - 4:33pm This continues to irk me…

This continues to irk me greatly.

02/06/2019 - 10:57am The M uniforms were the…

The M uniforms were the primary uniforms. UNC had a similar template, maybe a couple other schools, too.

The MDen story is 100% plausible, I remember stuff like that happening in the 90s.

02/06/2019 - 10:55am I know this is unpopular,…

I know this is unpopular, but I loved the late 90s-early 2000s M jerseys. The shorts, too.

I pretty much love all this stuff except for the Adidas era.

I like the current shorts, but the jersey fonts always look slightly off to me.

02/05/2019 - 7:37pm Again, university policies…

Again, university policies can, and will sideline a student athlete for periods of time like that, or even permanently. Hard to be eligible if you're removed from a class under a university policy for something like academic integrity, or suspended or even expelled altogether. They don't care about sports, nor should they in a situation like that, should this be one of them.

Once something goes up the chain in the university system for academic issues, there are ordinarily set protocols and punishments in place that Athletics can't touch, no matter how nice a kid he is, and which have nothing to do with how a player might be punished for other issues (criminal stuff, "team rules," etc.)

02/05/2019 - 7:01pm If there are situations…

If there are situations which run into university policies (academic honesty, etc.), he may not have a choice. That stuff isn't played around with, especially if it's something particularly egregious. If he's suspended and talking a year, seems to me this is something way beyond what the Athletic Department can, or would touch.

02/05/2019 - 6:56pm Honestly, your best bet for…

Honestly, your best bet for Disney gear these days are the third-party vendors if you want anything interesting like that. The market is pretty robust, and there's a lot of choices. If the usual Michigan suspects don't have it, and Disney doesn't, that's your only bet.

02/05/2019 - 12:25pm TIL Rumeal Robinson is out…

TIL Rumeal Robinson is out of prison. Maybe best that he doesn't show.

02/05/2019 - 12:23pm This. Those blue throwbacks …

This. Those blue throwbacks (was it 2008? 2009?) were gorgeous, even if the shorts looked a little weird with the longer style. No need to invent a fake uniform.

02/04/2019 - 1:31pm How many Michigan tweets…

How many Michigan tweets/promo materials have there been about NFL alums who seldom/ever see the field? A lot.

Hoyer is on the team. He was part of the championship. What's the problem here?

02/04/2019 - 11:31am "Revisionist history" in a,…

"Revisionist history" in a, what, 15 word post? OK.

I don't like their franchise. I'm not alone, either. All I said was simply that, and that I wish the other Michigan Man last night had won his ring. Cool.

So we're not allowed to not like the Patriots?

02/03/2019 - 11:39pm Meh. Should have been…

Meh. Should have been Countess. Worst Super Bowl ever, least defensible franchise in football.

02/03/2019 - 11:37pm Good.

Good.

01/30/2019 - 8:16pm With all the brainpower in…

With all the brainpower in the student section, one would think the Maize Rage could be more creative, and bring the rest of the arena around with them. I guess that's too much to ask.

01/30/2019 - 8:15pm Saw that the basketball band…

Saw that the basketball band sent out a group of trombones to stand courtside and play in the faces of the opposing parents during Blues Brothers.

I'm all for Yost-style "ugly parents" antics and all of that, anything that's within the bounds of intimidation with some creativity/good humor, but that strikes me as a bit much. Don't use the band to be deliberately obnoxious to people whose only sin is wanting to watch their kid play basketball.

(To hell with Ohio, this lady probably needs to can it, I will now take my negs)

Woodrow Wilson golfed on an almost daily basis for stretches of his presidency.

Same story in Chicago. Loyola, UChicago, Northwestern, and DePaul. It's going to be colder than both Everest and Siberia, apparently.

Such a shame, having to still save lives when it's cold enough to induce frostbite in minutes?

It's as if you've never heard of people who work from home.

01/29/2019 - 2:54pm This isn't frivolous or…

This isn't frivolous or petty stuff--the potential temps across the Midwest are enough to incite frostbite in a matter of minutes. Keep your kids inside, no matter how crazy it may make you.

This movie looks like not a very good movie.

01/27/2019 - 4:03pm lololol lest we forget…

lololol lest we forget Cheryl Burnett?

Bad seasons happen. You don't fire good coaches when there's a blip on the radar, especially when the program isn't a tire fire anymore.

01/25/2019 - 12:18pm It's time that the olds…

It's time that the olds realized that phones aren't going to give you brain worms or nefariously take over your life. It's not that hard to figure out how a phone ticket works.

A mid-80s Mercury, and no, I didn't?

01/23/2019 - 2:14pm Came back from a bowl trip…

Came back from a bowl trip with the MMB late one January night to find about six inches of snow on the ground. Inched my old rear-wheel-drive car up Division to my neighborhood, up by the Frieze Building, where I proceeded to fishtail through the snow for an hour trying to find a parking place. The same food delivery driver helped me out of separate snowbanks twice in the span of a half hour. As if being shocked back into winter after a new year's in the sun wasn't bad enough...

01/22/2019 - 1:59pm Find a good Wisconsin supper…

Find a good Wisconsin supper club. Go drink copious amounts of Old Fashioneds and New Glarus and eat your weight in fish fry. Don't skimp on the relish plate and cheese curds.

If you don't want to leave Madison proper, there's a restaurant called the Old Fashioned, right by the capitol, with pretty good food and drinks. Get the tiger sauce with your cheese curds. I'll second Greenbush Bakery for donuts.

Madison is awesome.

Completely devoid of context, completely transparent about blatantly trying to hide politics in plain sight.

Typical.

This thread is a hoss. Whoa, Nelly, no flags!

01/13/2019 - 11:56pm The point is that in this…

The point is that in this case, Michigan completely dropped the ball in how it handled this hire, how it disguised this hire, how it backpedaled on this hire, and now how it's recast the entire narrative as it undid this hire. They could have gotten in front of this and made their case. They didn't. The Daily caught on to them on a Friday night, and then Athletics did what they do best when they have to fix a story.

You can believe all you want about what Faehn did or didn't do, but the fact of the matter is if Michigan was so confident that this was all just fine, they sure as hell didn't act like it. And it doesn't change the optics that if you're down the road from East Lansing, and your fanbase and university constituents (students, faculty, alumni, etc.) consistently feel strongly about ensuring that Michigan remains in some way on a moral high ground above the tire fire happening up there, this isn't just going to slip through.

The question isn't about whether or not she was "railroaded." It's the fact that the way Warde Manuel handled this, he doesn't allow for a lot of benefit of the doubt. Faehn wasn't hired in a vacuum devoid of context and news cycles. Bad optics are bad optics, bad decisions are bad decisions. And this was both.

Brian can be wrong sometimes, you know.

01/13/2019 - 10:16pm Yep, exactly. Yesterday…

Yep, exactly. Yesterday Warde put the decision on the student-athletes, today she's rhetorically downgraded to consultant and fired through a weird Sunday night press release.

These people are simply not good at this.

@UMichWGym: "Michigan ends consulting relationship with Rhonda Faehn"

They can't even fire her without sounding totally out of touch.

01/12/2019 - 11:35pm Because a student athlete…

Because a student athlete subordinate/dependent on an Athletic Department for their very livelihood is going to tweet anything else? If this is anything like the Brandon years, these kids all got emails asking that they show support for The Team, The Team, The Team.

Think critically.

01/12/2019 - 4:10pm So deflect the decision onto…

So deflect the decision onto the student athletes, hide behind someone else's investigation, and put out the press release a day too late.

Great job, Warde. This remains not a great look.
