11/01/2018 - 2:32pm 6.9 yards per attempt…

6.9 yards per attempt against Purdue is enough to spark talk of a quarterback controversy among people who get paid to use words for a living.

In fairness(?), Martin Luther King sparked talk of a holiday controversy among this same person.

10/09/2018 - 11:15pm I don't have words to…

I don't have words to properly express my gratitude. Thank you all so, so much. It's been an amazing, uplifting, reaffirming day.

10/09/2018 - 11:27am It's an option but not an…

It's an option but not an ideal one. It's very difficult to live with someone who has ME/CFS—you end up taking on the bulk of the housework, for one. This illness also makes it hard to be around other people all the time. I've set up this townhouse to be ideal for recovery—I have a spare room where I can get horizontal that isn't my bedroom, which is huge for mental health when one is often house/bedridden. It'd be a huge stressor to add a housemate at the moment, and my #1 directive from my specialist is to avoid stress.

Thanks for asking, and for your support. Thank you to everyone in this thread.

08/27/2018 - 10:13am I haven't had a chance to…

I haven't had a chance to listen back through. Some of the content we were talking about hit close to home for me and I'm sure I unfairly took it out on Seth. I'm sorry.

08/16/2018 - 6:46pm You brought my name and my…

You brought my name and my illness into it and did so in a way that was, at best, unnecessarily jerkish. (Textbook non-apology, too. It's not accepted.) This isn't just about you, either. People in my situation deal with enough stigma. If you followed my Twitter "act," which you clearly do, you'd know that. How my illness impacts my employment and how my employer operates is, in fact, a large part of the point.

Meanwhile, I'll continue saying how I feel with my name attached to every word. Have a good one, Pepto Bismol.

08/16/2018 - 6:25pm Hey, you found the edit…

Hey, you found the edit function. Very nice.

Yes, I posted your comments on Twitter, and I stand by everything I said there. Your original post also made some assumptions I didn't want to address—do you really think we're not doing anything behind the scenes to try to fill the gap that's been created? You may, in fact, see a new face around here soon; you already have with Matt Way's excellent basketball coverage. These things don't happen overnight, especially when health situations take an unexpected turn.

As for the rest, I'll let others judge on who has the thin skin around here.

08/16/2018 - 3:24pm "Get well soon and all of…

"Get well soon and all of that."

Okay, then. Thanks, and all of that.

08/14/2018 - 7:59pm Seth is on vacation until…

Seth is on vacation until tomorrow evening, I've been far too sick to work, and Brian is basically the entire site at the moment. This isn't ennui; this is a small staff that's been hit with a lot this year, and we're doing what we can at the moment.

I honestly can't tell. That's at 400% zoom.

07/02/2018 - 12:08am Agreed.
Watched Evans in…

Watched Evans in person in high school in addition to breaking down his tape. I look at Gray as Evans-plus, and I really liked Evans out of high school.

06/25/2018 - 3:07pm Fixed. Thank you.

Fixed. Thank you.

06/08/2018 - 1:27pm I was surprised it needed…

I was surprised it needed creation.

05/30/2018 - 4:42pm Well.

Given he's on account 1.8, that choice of forum may not entirely be his.

05/30/2018 - 1:51pm I did research for Bacon's book.

I have news for you about the streak. (It's also in the book.)

05/30/2018 - 12:00pm Neg away.

This was my terrible idea. I'm working on some real content that, uh, I sure hope gets posted this evening.

05/30/2018 - 10:27am Brian!

Good to see you pop up, man.

05/29/2018 - 10:25pm I have a younger brother!

But yes, TWB was a blog I spun off from my college internship, and my current podcast co-host Alex Cook was eventually one of the site's contributors.

05/29/2018 - 10:22pm Yes.

Jeff Yuan's old blog.

05/26/2018 - 9:53am It's still ready to roll.

We're mostly waiting for everyone at the site to actually be around for the launch. (I was hoping to have the Wagner retrospective ready to go for it, for instance.) It's crunch time for HTTV, too. Soon.

(Edit: Haha, hi, Seth.)

05/21/2018 - 1:05pm My doctor and his team...

...did an evidently great job at prepping me for all this. One thing that really helped despite feeling very counterintuitive was to get up and move around. Walking, especially when I started doing some flights of stairs, really helped get everything moving. The gas pain was rough the first day back from the hospital.

05/21/2018 - 1:02pm Yup.

It was such a procedure. I left out some, uh, more flatulent details, and I knew to expect the shoulder pain.

05/21/2018 - 12:52pm My goodness, that's horrifying.

I hope you're in a much better place now.

When people ask why I flew down to Alabama for this when I live near Ann Arbor, it's because few things can go further in an experience like this than an unwavering trust in your surgeon, and he's performed hundreds of these operations on patients like me.

05/21/2018 - 8:08am Thanks again,

05/03/2018 - 5:39pm So sorry to hear this, umbig11.

Hoping for quick and full recoveries for all.

05/01/2018 - 1:48pm Think most of y'all are overthinking the recruiting thing.

From what I can tell, there are way more recrutiing reporters covering prospects in the South, California, and Texas than anywhere else. That not only means more exposure for those prospects, it means more analysts lobbying for them when it's time to put together the rankings. I think if you caught Midwest recruiting analysts off the record they'd say this region is both undercovered and underrated, and those are related.

04/30/2018 - 2:21pm Yes.

That's the signal.

04/30/2018 - 2:20pm That was based

on a report from yesterday by 247's Bill Greene saying he could decide soon, but it wasn't based on info tied directly to this commit watch, FWIW. Can't really say more than that.

04/24/2018 - 1:31pm He was a senior. So, yes,

He was a senior. So, yes, he's gone (along with three other Purdue starters), but this post only covers early entries.

04/23/2018 - 12:26pm Can't totally speak for Brian.

But it's a pretty tight stylistic comparison, which I think is what he's going for.

04/20/2018 - 2:52pm Thank you.

That's pretty much what happened.

04/19/2018 - 2:20pm This isn't desperately shifting pieces, though.

This is finding the best fit for a player I've personally seen play both center-field free safey and line up man-to-man against Ambry Thomas and KJ Hamler in coverage. Kelly-Powell isn't some marginal player they're trying to use to patch up a spot. He's, in my opinion, a good young player they want to get on the field.

04/18/2018 - 1:14pm Two things.

1. Watch those Castleton highlights. Or maybe don't.

2. I've (finally) been getting around to tourney GIFs and Teske was an absolute monster on defense against Houston. This sequence may be my favorite of the year—he deters guys from shooting three times, and on the third his man travels.

There were multiple other instances where guys got to the paint and either really altered their shot or aborted the idea entirely because of Teske's interior presence. I think there's a good chance whatever dropoff occurs on offense is made up on defense when Teske is out there, which is remarkable to consider given this year's defense.

04/16/2018 - 11:29pm You're welcome.

Here's the ed note for those who missed it in the original thread:

Somehow this turned political and personal because of a couple posters who are now on notice and have fewer points than they did before. The OP wasn't the problem, and while the first response opened up the politics conversation, the worst part was the belittling, mischaracterizing response to those with opposing viewpoints. (Yes, especially you, Brutus.) I have less and less tolerance for that BS with each passing day and accounts are going to start disappearing if it doesn't stop. Don't confuse this board for Twitter.

04/15/2018 - 5:59pm God forbid

someone with a chronic illness take a break during the most busy season of the year. You don't know me or what I need.

Y'all liked the hoops content, right?

I'm honestly shocked the conversation took this turn, except internet comments.

Also, I'm gonna get paid for the podcast.

04/15/2018 - 1:46pm Well... was a bit intense for the last, oh, couple months. Not a lot of free weekends.

04/14/2018 - 5:27pm Well, sure.

But Sam's is originally sourced and he actually double-checked to see who's still coming up after the spring game cancellation.

04/13/2018 - 4:40pm I like Nunez with both

but I think the idea here is Michigan may need to get as much shooting out of the 2 and 3 spots as they can, especially if Wagner goes pro. Poole in the pick-and-roll with Nunez spotting up could be an explosive combination (or Z/Teske running the P&R with Poole/Nunez really spreading the floor).

04/13/2018 - 3:27pm East Coast is his area.

He played a major role in landing Tarik Black. He's got a ton of connections there from recruiting that region for so long. There's almost always more than one coach working on a guy, too, especially a big-time prospect—Jay Harbaugh also recruited Black, for instance.

04/12/2018 - 3:09pm I may have pitched that second title

as a shirt idea.

04/09/2018 - 5:15pm Disagree.

Shooting 50% on midrange jumpers is great, period. There were only about 25 players in the country this year who hit that mark on any sort of volume. It's good to be able to hit bad shots—you're not going to generate great looks on 100% of your possessions.

04/09/2018 - 5:11pm I like Livers.

Quite a bit. Think he's being underestimated by a lot of people because he faded a bit down the stretch.

Jordan Poole is the best returning pro prospect on the team, and unless Charles Matthews develops his shot (not out of the question), I don't think it's particularly close. If we're going purely by upside, Poole can be a lead guard in the NBA; Matthews and Livers probably top out as NBA role players (which is still quite good!). Teske is an intriguing NBA prospect as well but he's limited by the direction the game is headed.

Poole is a guy who could be gone to the NBA next year if he plays to his potential.

04/09/2018 - 4:30pm (No subject)

04/05/2018 - 3:32pm apologies

for the Maizen.

won't happen again.

(if some comments above don't make sense, a banhammer wiped out several posts.)

04/01/2018 - 5:40pm tomorrow's essay spoilers,

tomorrow's essay spoilers, man

04/01/2018 - 5:32pm uh

asking a poll question is not the same as expressing an opinion, please don't put words in my mouth.

03/28/2018 - 4:33pm I agree

with all of this. If Wagner's shot is falling—and that's a big if of late—I don't think this one is very close, and I'm confident this is a game M can win without Wagner's shot falling.

03/27/2018 - 5:48pm Selection Bias.

From Synergy:

2012-13 team: 97th percentile on BLOBs, 65th on SLOBs, 95th after timeouts
2013-14 team: 100th percentile (#1 overall) on BLOBs, 91st on SLOBs, 98th after timeouts

Seriously, Beilein is good at this.

03/22/2018 - 11:54pm hey everyone

how's it going

03/22/2018 - 6:39pm Ask any former Beilein player.

The whole plane is made out of read-and-react, just within a system. There's almost no such thing as a set play. That's why I added the disclaimer to get out of a football mindset.

03/22/2018 - 5:35pm I think it's personnel.

They've tried some stuff with Matthews but frankly I'm not sure his hands are good enough that you want to try lobs to him very often. Meanwhile, the primary wings the last few years have mostly been Zak Irvin and Duncan Robinson — both were/are solid cutters who were/are utilized in that way, but you're not going to dial those plays up as often for them as you would for GRIII (or, hopefully, Matthews after an offseason with the JUGS machine). They're, rightfully, more focused on running plays that free up Robinson as a three-point shooter or running most of their offense through the Z/Wagner screen game and MAAR.
