A QB running in the open field is not defenseless. A QB who slides is defenseless from the moment he lets his feet go. Furbush should have been flagged for the hit on Haskins when he slid. Not sure if the glancing contact warranted targeting, but it was definitely an unnecessary hit.
That didn't come off to me as a lack of focus. The "possibly 7" more games comment sounded to me like this team knows how good they can be. It's nice to see that swagger. It doesn't feel out of place this year.
That was my favorite play of the game. UW was whistled for a false start, but Uche hoisted the RT off the ground and planted him in his ass. Giving up almost 100lbs and physically dominating.
I think we'll see that version of Down G where Mason runs to the backside at least a few times. Connelly will be keying Mason and remove himself from the play. A 360 lb nose is just begging for a reach block, and the edges seem very, very pliable.
There is a pretty clear downward sloping trend here, which makes sense. The better your DL, the more often you draw holding penalties. Illinois is a statistical outlier. Our shit is outrageous bias.
I had this thought, too. I get RVB vibes from Newberg. 3T/5T swing man who lacks top end athletecism, but becomes a great player with good length, brute strength, and excellent technique.
He's been named the starter, his turn is right now.
The only potential issue with "loyalty" here is Dabo not having loyalty to the QB who led his team to a playoff appearance. That kind of loyalty would be foolish since he believes the freshman gives them a better chance to win.
People will look for reasons to be outraged by this, but this is just a case of everyone involved acting rationally. Dabo's job is to play the best QB. Bryant wants a shot at the NFL and Clemson is no longer his best opportunity to so.
I honestly don't think its idiotic. I thought this happened all the time: a kid stars for four years at a small school and plays one year on a bigger stage. That makes sense to me. It seemed like that's why the grad transfer rule was made. The redshirt, in my mind, was a tool to extract a 5th year at the original school. Like I said, I was mistaken.
To me, that would be a sensible rule. Instead, those who play their first four years (better players) are effectively barred from the potential fifth year of free education. That doesn't make sense.
Okay, thank you for clarifying. Apparently, I misunderstood the rule.
Obviously, everyone gets 5 years to play 4 at their chosen school. I thought the immediate eligibility for grad transfers was instituted to reward student athletes for completing a degree on schedule, and had no idea redshirt status played a role in eligibility for a 5th year player transferring with a degree in hand.
That's my fault for believing the NCAA might institute a rule that would actually make sense and benefit student-athletes.
Of course they effectively excluded kids for staying healthy and contributing to their teams for four consecutive years. I should have known.
"You're good enough to play as a true freshman? You stayed healthy and completed your degree on time? Nope, you actually aren't eligible to take advantage of this program to have grad school paid for." Fuck the NCAA.
You missed my point. He would only need the redshirt if he plans on playing his 5th year at his current school. Getting a redshirt makes absolutely no difference for 5th year grad transfers. He quit on his team, and he talked shit on the way out.
I disagree with Brian on both of Hudson's targeting calls. The one against SMU was a terrible call, shoulder-to-shoulder hit with glancing head contact against a runner between the tackles.
The hit on Bunch was definitely targeting. He launched headfirst into the QB's chin. I said "that's targeting" before the flag even came out. It was obvious.
I have to disagree. Partridge already has been a very successful HC at Paramus. He has coached multiple positions at UM after working in a non-coaching role for a year or two. He has excelled in every role. Durkin tried to get him to follow along to Maryland, iirc. Then Bama tried to poach him for a lateral move.
Partridge will be someone's defensive coordinator very soon, and will be an excellent HC after that.
I have nothing to support this, just a feeling. This presser reads a lot more like Harbaugh circa '15 than the more awkward, word-fumbling Harbaugh we've seen over the last year and a half. Seems like he's done walking on eggshells and has his unique swagger back.
Maybe I'm just being wishful, but I got that feeling.
Shea will throw as much as we need him to. We havn't needed him to do much against the last two opponents. Against Nebraska and Northwestern, we'll probably see Shea have 25-30 attempts to create enough space to keep the running game efficient. I also hope he won't get hurt, but you cant play scared. You play to win the game.
As soon as I saw "mum" I read the remainder of the OP with a British accent in my head. It certainly hurts the credibility of the OP. They don't know anything about football over there.
One of Welschof or Upshaw will break through next year. I think Welschof will be an Anchor. Mattison is the best in the business at turning raw ability into football ability on the DL.
StraightDave has a nice long history of racist, homophobic trash posts. If the liberal conspiracy moderation theory of MGoBlog were real, he would have been banned a long time ago.
However, he crossed a real line with the personal attacks on teenagers in the game thread. Needs to be gone.
The QB broke contain like, twice? Thrice? That's what mobile QBs do. He didnt run away from anyone. He took advantage of gaps when the D left him one. It's an issue. It's not a speed issue.
The kindest word I can think of to describe StraightDave is curmudgeon.
Candidly, he's a grade-A asshole.
Unfortunately, he's not a troll so he pops up and spews his (sincerely held) garbage thoughts without getting banned. If he was actually attacking kids personally in the game thread, I hope mods bring the banhammer.
I agree this defense isn't elite. But "they look slow" is the dumbest take I have ever read in a snowflake thread. SMU had several RPS +2 plays that were held down to 10-15 yards simply because our guy tracked it down from being out of position. The long touchdown was a simple miscommunication, not a speed issue. If this defense was slow, that 4th and 1 conversion would have been a long touchdown.

I'll be very interested to see if Rondale Moore follows Brohm to Louisville
Allegedly

We have hardly thrown any screens this year. I would be elated to see half a dozen dumb screens tomorrow

London Fletcher but FAST
…
Most likely he's a 3-4 OLB.
Think LaMarr Woodley.
Great DE in college, doesn't quite have the mass to be an every down DL at the next level. Still a position to be a productive pass rusher.
"Loudermilk" sounds like a cheesehead metal band whose lead singer is the dude who used to scream "discount double check" at Aaron Rodgers.
EDIT: A quick googling has revealed that the discount double check cheesehead's real name is Adrian Martinez. I can't even.

Meat wasn't the only thing being smoked...
Considering who the opponent is and with all the uncertainty on the DL, this might be the most important game of Bryan Mone's career.
Crazy that this is sponsored by Firehouse Subs.
I clicked on your post history just to make sure you were a troll. Your most recent post literally took me to the mod action sticky thread.
Obvious troll is obvious moron.
Proof of institutional bias:
Four seasons is a big enough sample, right?

This feels like Hutchinson just went from "very good for a freshman" to just "very good."
Stock Up: Twitter since the 8Ball photoshop explosion.

Unless they finish it this year.
You mean like a functional points system?

If he's on track to graduate at the end of this year, then why quit mid season? This doesn't pass the sniff test.
EDIT: I was wrong. I have symbolically negged myself.

Brian, you can't say you aren't holding a grudge against Scott Frost's mom when that tweet has been pinned for over two years...

Offensive Coordinators HATE HIM.
Good. Maybe we can convert 3rd and 1 now.
I bet you stay in your seat on third down and politely clap for all scores.
Throw in a jet constraint and you have the base of the OSU offense.

The one on Ross was one of only two that were totally legit. He got beat, so he held his man. PI.

Roughing the passer on Hutchinson: Bullshit
Targeting on Hudson: Bullshit
At least 2 of the PIs were bullshit and were flagged because the DB dominated and the receiver fell down.
There were legit instances of PI today, but refs colored our perception of the defense today. They were trash.

I agree with this take. Play some coverage on 3rd down. The straight 4 man rush is plenty good enough.
