You criticize him for having millions, but then insinuate that being a grandparent at age 38 is an issue in “his neck of the woods.” So is he a spoiled millionaire? Or a ghetto “thug”? Seems like you have a problem with him whether he is part of the haves or have-nots. So maybe there is something else about him that you don’t like? Wonder what it might be?

02/09/2019 - 3:16pm I wasn't watching either but… I wasn't watching either but I checked out the game thread. I was a bit surprised to check back at the end of the game and see that Teske and Matthews were our key contributors. They were the target of a lot of harsh criticism in the first half--lots of demands that one or both be benched. Now, it sounds like they did in fact struggle. But maybe people need to chill out a bit if a player is struggling? Players are going to have bad stretches, but good players are going to balance it out over time. /rant over

Coming back to this thread after the game--you were pretty much right on!

Drive into the middle of a weak IU D--that sounds like a bad idea.

01/24/2019 - 7:30pm I'm going to the Lemoyne…

I'm going to the Lemoyne game in Manchester, NH this weekend. I'll make sure to wear my Michigan gear!

01/19/2019 - 10:28pm As they say, you win some…

As they say, you win some you lose some. Interesting watching all the different permutations. There are the games where your own kid plays well but the team loses, and those where they don't play well but the team wins. As someone who is not super athletic, I'm amazed to watch my kids do things that I was never able to do at their age. It's always fun to watch them, regardless of the outcome.

I think we're expecting about 10 inches overnight and into tomorrow (we're in New England). Hasn't been all that much snow so far. And then we get the cold early next week, though not as bad as you have it in Northern Michigan!

Stay warm, enjoy the barbecue, and enjoy the basketball season!

01/19/2019 - 9:44pm Yep--I saw the title and new…

Yep--I saw the title and new it was the handiwork of Xtra. I was hoping to get an update on any basketball games his kids may have had this weekend! My two kids both prevailed in their (admittedly low-key) rec basketball games, so I'm celebrating with a cold beverage as we wait to see how much snow we are going to get.

This would have been a great post to use "viscous" and "unctuous" as well.

01/16/2019 - 9:43am Yep. I squeeze half of a…

Yep. I squeeze half of a lemon into a glass bowl. And a little dijon (tbs or so) and some salt. Then add olive oil while whisking until you like the taste. You don't even have to emulsify it. Julia Child's cookbook recommends making it in a jar and just shaking it up when you are ready to use.

01/11/2019 - 10:17am I thought "You're a Baller!"…

I thought "You're a Baller!" was from Mississippi or something. Jay Harbaugh I think did a prom invitation or something? And maybe a cake? I can't remember. I guess recruiting sometimes means you have to be creative, and sometimes it falls flat.

None more black.

01/08/2019 - 3:28pm This reeks of desperation. This reeks of desperation.
01/03/2019 - 9:43am Two anecdotes from the early…

Two anecdotes from the early- to mid-90s. Really small things, but both stuck with me.

Freshman year (92-93) and I was going to send a birthday card home to my younger brother. I lived across from a guy on the team, so I asked him if he could get Ty Wheatley to autograph the card--I figured my younger brother would love it. (That was Wheatley's breakout year.) Apparently when presented with the card, which had an oldey-timey sepia portrait of Babe Ruth on the front, Wheatley noted that he "fucking hated" Babe Ruth, or something to that effect. Still gamely signed the card though, so I got to be cool older brother.

The other one was a year later. I was going to Madison for the game in 1993 (had some friends there). To get tickets I once again hit up a guy I knew on the team, and he put me in touch with two players who were willing to part with their allotted tickets (no comment on whether there was a financial transaction involved). We had to pick up the tickets at will-call at Camp Randall. We were convinced that these tickets were meant specifically for family members, so we were really nervous about going up to claim them. You can imagine a couple of white guys from Minnesota walking up to the window after spending the morning practicing how to say "Biakabutuka." Needless to say, we weren't fooling anyone but no one cared either--got our tickets and went to the game.

Small addendum to the second anecdote: that was the game when the student section rushed the field, resulting in several serious injuries. Because we had will-call tickets we avoided the melee, but had a good vantage point to watch the whole thing go down.

I love the inside look at how you got the shot. I'd love something like this as an occasional feature on the blog.

01/03/2019 - 9:30am So many great things about…

So many great things about this post, not least of which is the use of "I crap you negative," which I associate with Glen from Raising Arizona.

12/21/2018 - 9:56pm I'm having a "Barbados Punch… I'm having a "Barbados Punch-Inspired Sour Ale" from a local place here in New Hampshire. Sounds weird, but it's really good. Nice and tart. Good practice in case I ever join the lemon-eating contingent.
12/21/2018 - 9:49pm Do tell! Do tell!
12/21/2018 - 9:48pm We won bottle of Basil… We won a bottle of Basil Hayden's at a Yankee swap. Looking forward to trying it!
12/20/2018 - 5:44pm Awesome comment. On my iPad… Awesome comment. On my iPad so I can't upvote but that made me laugh--twice.
12/20/2018 - 11:35am I like Lemonheads, but…

I like Lemonheads, but actually I think Cherry Clans are even better. But now that I think back on the labeling--geez. I'm guessing that's why I haven't seen them in a long time?

12/20/2018 - 11:31am And to Windy City for these…

And to Windy City for these posts and keeping it alive. Has brought a significant amount of amusement to the board.

12/20/2018 - 11:29am Is there any chance that we…

Is there any chance that we'll ever get more details on this whole recruitment? He recommitted to Michigan the next day? Crazy! Obviously the info may be sensitive or may have been shared in confidence, in which case it should just remain a mystery to those of us without good connections. But I'd definitely be interested in hearing more.

(And I know the murmurs are that he was worried Harbaugh was leaving, and then was reassured that this wasn't the case. Even if that's true it's still a little strange--did he try to confirm the rumors before switching his commitment?)

12/20/2018 - 6:12am Good tips--thanks. And good… Good tips--thanks. And good work on the lemon eating!
12/19/2018 - 11:06pm What the hell is with all… What the hell is with all you lemon-eaters with your nice-ass kitchens and gigantic vent hoods and marble islands and whatnot? I feel like such a failure! But at least I didn't have to eat a lemon.

65% is pretty good, but I'd feel much better if it was two-thirds.

12/18/2018 - 2:26pm I'm going to have to…

I'm going to have to disagree on this one Xtra--I'm actually finding this gimmick a little amusing, at least for the time being. Doubly amusing if some people think that they are actually interacting with the real Marcus Ray.

12/16/2018 - 9:02pm OT?

You know, he did oversee a toxic football program that resulted in the preventable death of one of his players. But, let's not rush to judgment.

12/13/2018 - 12:31pm You've been writing about… You've been writing about See's Candy so much!
12/13/2018 - 10:19am I don't know if it's just me…

I don't know if it's just me, but when I type something on my iPad/iPhone it automatically adds an apostrophe when I make some words plural. So if I write: "the Smiths are coming to our party," it is corrected to "the Smith's are coming to our party." Same for: "I am free on Mondays and Fridays this month"--I get "Monday's and Friday's." Seems like a stupid error to make as the default auto-correct on Apple devices, and I wonder if it will result in those apostrophes becoming accepted as correct punctuation in the future.

User name most definitely does not check out.

That sounds a little . . . inappropriate.

11/26/2018 - 3:07pm If I remember correctly it…

If I remember correctly it wasn't just that he was #1--he was consensus #1 and his overall ranking was something like the second highest ever. Gucci Mane points out that he was "at or close to all big ten." I think that means that he didn't quite meet expectations. Of course, injuries played a roll, and maybe expectations should have been tempered--but I get evenyoubrutus' point.

11/22/2018 - 8:03am Thanks B1GGY! We did a flank… Thanks B1GGY! We did a flank steak on the grill last night for fajitas and you are right on. Took longer to get the grill ready, but cook time was maybe just a touch longer. (Though I used quite a bit of extra charcoal as well.) Looking forward to doing the bird today. Have a good Thanksgiving!
11/21/2018 - 3:06pm Ths is a good chance for me… Ths is a good chance for me to get advice from the MGoCommunity. I'm planning in grilling a small (11 lbs) turkey tomorrow. (Hoping it will taste good plus save room in the oven.) Weather here in the beautiful Granite State is calling for temps in the 10s. Any idea how much will that affect cook time? I have to think when it is that cold the heat dissipates pretty rapidly. Grilling experts and those knowledgeable in thermodynamics--I'd love your thoughts! I use charcoal--a mix of briquettes and natural hardwood, fwiw. Thanks and happy Thanksgiving everyone!

/blank stare /"that's bad."
11/15/2018 - 9:12pm I didn't catch the whole… I didn't catch the whole game, but there was a point in the second half when he was shooting free throws and he had a laugh with the ref. Not sure what it was about--maybe the ref gave him the ball too early? He returned it and then got it back again.

That's awesome. I actually think I'd like it better if it stopped when only the eyes were peeking up over the shoulder. More suspenseful!

11/09/2018 - 10:30pm Not at all stoned, but I…

Not at all stoned, but I kind of liked it. And I appreciate that it was put in the diaries, which somehow is less objectionable (can't clog the forum topics with this sort of nonsense!).

11/09/2018 - 8:43am Rutger.

11/09/2018 - 8:38am And another thing: when I am…

And another thing: when I am on my iPad and I hit the thumbs up/thumbs down, I jump to the top of the page and I don't think the vote registers. To be fair, I haven't updated my operating system in forever, so it could be just me. Wondering if anyone else has that problem.

That's a meteor game right there.

11/01/2018 - 6:48pm I've used lower fat ground… I've used lower fat ground beef and it's worked out for me. I find the 80/20 leads to a lot of splattering, especially if I am making a bunch and the oil starts to accumulate on the pan. (I know I should probably just wipe it occasionally, but I'm lazy and it's super hot and then I have oily paper towels to deal with.) But the paint scraper as spatula--that's brilliant!

To see my own posts, I type "" in the address bar and add the forward slash. Then I see a dropdown menu and my user page is one of the options. I guess we all have to find these little work-arounds.

Another frustrating issue: when you click on a comment that you've made in order to see the replies or the ongoing conversation, but it is more than 50 posts into a thread and you just end up on the first page of the thread, not the specific comment. To be fair, I think that was a problem with the old site as well, but still annoying.

I see a travel ad. I don't love the ads embedded in a comment. Sneaky sneaky trick by the advertisers, but it is jarring.

You know, I've seen your username countless times and I always glanced at it and thought it was "Caris My Homeboy" as some sort of Caris Levert homage. I only now saw the extra R and capital I. These new reading glasses are paying off big time!
