WBB stuns Ohio State at Crisler Center

An unbelievable finish just now at Crisler.

This game was really ugly in the first half. OSU had 10 first half turnovers, Michigan kept turning it over. Just when Michigan built up a lead, it was fumbled away by turnovers.

All said, Michigan led 28-27 at halftime.

The 3rd quarter was very bad. Michigan did not make a field goal until there was 1 minute left in the 3rd quarter (WBB goes by four 10 minute quarters). Ohio State led 46-37 at the end of the 3rd quarter and led 53-41 in the 4th with just 8:06 left in the game.

Michigan then went on a 13-2 run to tie it at 55. OSU hit a 3 pointer with a little over a minute to go to go up 58-55, but senior Nicole Munger (who took a beating today, taking 4 chargers including a knee to the chest) answered with a 3 to tie it at 58.

OSU then drove to the basket but missed and Michigan got the rebound. The final possession involved plenty of chaos and looked like it was gonna end in nothing when Hallie Thome drove towards the basket while being doubled. She missed but freshman Naz Hillmon got the offensive rebound and put it back for the lead.

60-58 Michigan with 13 seconds left.

OSU had a chance to tie or take the lead but they missed and fouled Munger with just 1 second left. She put the game away with two free throws to make it 62-58 and Michigan survived.

An incredible comeback because this team looked absolutely lost in the 3rd quarter with B1G Player of the Week Hallie Thome having a horrible night. This had a lot to do with OSU's game plan which was to double Thome all game long. She only managed 6 points but got a key basket late to tie the game at 55-55.

This thing was over. The crowd was out of it and all you could hear were OSU players and fans cheering until Michigan went on the run.

Michigan is now 12-7 (2-4 B1G) and has beaten Ohio State for the second consecutive time.

This was a must-have because Michigan is currently in the middle of a gauntlet on the schedule. And OSU is 8-10 on the season but that's not a gimme because OSU recently beat a ranked Indiana and ranked MSU in back-to-back games.

Michigan's next 3 games are all against teams currently ranked.

Their next game is Thursday night at Indiana.

Would you believe me if I told you Naz Hillmon comes off the bench?

I can't even tell you how many times she's had a bunch of points. She had 20 today.

I said in the other thread this team needs to find an identity because it sure looks like we don't have one and that nobody seems to want the ball like a Katelynn Flaherty.

Naz Hillmon wants the ball. I'm all for her being a starter.

Yep, Amaker got us to 3rd in the B1G in 2003 and an NIT in 2004.  So I think we have already seen her ceiling and padding the win totals vs. the LIUs, Morgan States, and Southerns is not helping.  Don't know why she doesn't ask Yaklich for help on a better defensive scheme than her teams play; her D is painful to watch.  And continuing to claim she's built the 'hardest working team in America' is specious at best; don't tell that to UConn or ND!

(Slowly raises hand) i have!  When that shit went down with Mattison and Washington (more so mattison) my spiritual side said “that is the kiss of death for them”

Let’s hope this trend keeps going.  I want to d stomp those fools when they come to town. Men’s b-ball needs to follow up what the women team just did. Except win by 20.

congrats lady wolverines great W!

WD. Thanks I very much enjoyed this write-up. Well done and it's always great to beat OSU (and my sister teaches there, so I really like it when we come out on top!)

If anyone has followed M Womens basketball thru the years they know Michigan under KBA has been extremely turnover prone and lost many many games due to High TO volumne...

The key to this win is when KBA inserted Thome, Brown and Hillman into the lineup at the same time.  Their length and ability to double team Dorka Juhauz took Juhauz out of the game in the 4th Quarter.  But the player of the game, as mentioned by the OP was Munger.  She got beat up badly and still played through all the pain to take another charge and hit a big time 3 and hit two free throws at the end.  The crowd was huge.  They even sold seats in the upper bowl which is normally closed for WBB games.  Next Sunday the 27th they host MSU.  Come and enjoy.

I was watching on TV and can’t recall a game with more charging and blocking calls. When a close game went to an 8 point lead for OSU late in the third quarter, the broadcast team put up a graphic showing UMs recent trouble with closing out games. I had to leave the house with under 4 minutes left in the game and UM still down about 8 points. I figured it was a lost cause. Great to see that they pulled it out.
