Update - found old posts indicating he was dismissed/booted... this doesn’t sound like that. But either way, I suppose it is now official.

Mods - feel free to edit or delete the OP.

He officially posted that he was transferring back in December? Do you have a link?

My read is that he was holding out hope that he could get back onto the team, but with today's ruling it became clear that wasn't an option, so he announced officially on his own.

Cool avatar BTW. Cumong man.

Of McGrone is going to be so good then how is it a weakness?

We really only played 3 guys between WLB and MLB last year (Bush, Gil, Ross)

Now we have McGrone stepping into that rotation. Jordan Anthony should be ready. We have some guys that can go at that position.

Viper is thin...no Glasgow is a problem. Maybe Woods, Hawkins or Metellus could step in if needed. Leaving JKP and Hill on the back end (with the other 2 safeties who didn't move to Viper).

UMbig11, thanks for reiterating what I was the only one saying during the season about Gil. The only one that noticed or had the marbles to post anyway at the time. Yet you're popular and type things in a nice way so you'll get credit and people will listen now. Good job yup!! He doesn't read running plays or he just doesn't react. He is way overweight in his lower half to be able to run with anyone with speed. He will be a weak spot on the defense this year and will get exploited. Sorry to be a debbie downer to the kid but a spade is a spade. Cant sugar coat it. I just want to help out the team who seams to not be able to look inward sometimes.

Gil is yet another of those "I trust the coaches" low rated recruits that people think is a success because he's playing a lot, but it's only because we've failed badly in developing better LB recruits. We picked up three top guys in Singleton, Anthony and Ross in 2017, and only one of them has panned out, so we're left with a very limited guy in Gil as our best option.  This is why we lose the big games.

I didn't see anything really bad from Gil.  He only looked slow when compared to Ross and Bush.  I don't think he is as good as they are, but I didn't think he was a huge liability compared to Linebackers of the past.  Hopefully there is another guy to pass him by.  I know UMBIG is way better at this than I am, so I'm probably way off, but, whether it was the overall defense covering for him or something else, I was ok with his play this year.

Well, you seem to be hitting it.  Yeah, Gil is "fine".  He's "decent", "solid" and "ok".  He only looks slow when compared to faster players.  But none of those are good enough to win championships.  Settling for guys like Gil is why we keep losing to Ohio State and never winning games that really matter.

Watching the Bowl game it was clear that Hudson was the only guy that knew what was going on. It would be nice if he could transition to the middle and Metellus to Viper. I think there's enough talent to make up for Metellus on the back end but the question is can Hudson hold up in the middle? Is he strong enough?

Umbig11 I appreciate everything you bring to the board, but I have to strongly disagree about running back being a concern. Turner and Zach will split Higdon’s production and Wilson will improve and eat up Evans production. RB is a position where you can succeed in year one. Zach is an elite recruit. Probably the best running back recruit we’ve had since Fitz. And the offensive line next year should be a big step up which helps. We’ve seen that Wilson can pass protect pretty well. I’m not saying there’s not some question marks, but I disagree with it being a concern. I’ll make a bet that Michigan tops their ypg average this upcoming season vs last year. Plus throws more passes to the running backs as well. I’ll bet overall production is running and passing will be up once the season is over.

Dude, we currently have 1 (!) scholarship RB on our roster who isn't a true frosh or a walk on.  It's absolutely a concern.  Our coaching staff wouldn't be looking for a grad transfer RB if they weren't concerned about the position.  It's a concern.  Doesn't mean we will be bad at the position, but we should absolutely be concerned regarding the lack of experience and depth.

Hey, I totally respect your opinion. I just don't see it that way. Show me someone that can block a DE or blitzing LB in the B1G for 9 games? Who is that? Where does the experience and leadership come from during the spring, summer, and fall? Show me a 1,000 yard back? Can Turner be that guy? Maybe.

I love Tru, and he has played well above his ranking, but I just don't see the size or speed of a feature back in the B1G. Turner or Charbonnet could break out, but those are HUGE question marks.

Michigan's tailbacks (Higdon, Evans, Wilson, Turner, Samuels) rushed for over 2100 yards combined last year. Even if Tru and Turner do combine to replicate Higdon's yardage (~1100) that leaves Charbonnet to make up the remaining 1000 yards. That's pretty damn optimistic, even if you believe Charbonnet is a sure thing.

Can Turner or Charbonnet even pass protect? What happens if somebody gets hurt?

4th and Go For It

DL and LB will be interesting to see how it shakes out. it seems like we have a lot of talent but a lot of it's raw and inexperienced. Could be ok but guys will need to step up quickly.

RB? Meh. Either Zach and Christian step up or we throw a lot more? #speedinspace might actually mean we don't have to max protect and run 20 yard patterns? Would mitigate some of that blitz pickup duty. Plus Tru did well in that role if need be.

ok, when is the last time a 4th string RB at Michigan ever got a significant carry?  Sometimes those guys get garbage time carries, or carries to try and give them some experience, but I don't remember the last time we had the 4th guy out there because the first three were hurt, or even two were hurt and third needed a rest.
