You beat me to the punch.  If Smart is anything, he's a proven mid-major guy.

This was my first thought. …

This was my first thought.  He went play for play in the Orange Bowl with Shaun Alexander when we beat Bama.  I thought he was going to be an absolute stud in the NFL.  Getting drafted by the Bears probably didn't help though.

Hell, I'd take Yaklich as…

Hell, I'd take Yaklich as the head coach at this point.

Horrible defense has been…

Horrible defense has been the case all year and most of last year.  That's on the coaches.  You can look at one game and say it was a missed free throw or a turnover, but the problems are more than that.

Not sure if we're gonna fire…

Not sure if we're gonna fire Juwan, but his health may make that irrelevant.

I was just saying to my brother during the game that this team needs Yaklich.  The Defense for the last couple years has been atrocious.  After the luxury of great D under Donlan and Yaklich during Beilein's tenure, watching these teams has been very frustrating.

If Oats would come, great, but Yaklich would be a good hire I think.

Agreed.  My first reaction…

Agreed.  My first reaction was "Oh, no!".  Glad it's just a feature and not an expose'.

I agree.  These are the…

I agree.  These are the games that I enjoy.  The years of Cooper losing almost every game to Michigan and then Michigan losing almost every game for 18 years to OSU took some of the shine off.  It's way more fun when both teams are good.

That being said, I'd still be ok with Michigan winning the next 10 games.  Go Blue!

Jewish holidays are tied to the lunar calendar and that varies from the Gregorian calendar used by most of the world.  That's why the date or day varies vs. being on the same Gregorian date each year.

Absolutely this was an entry password for house parties for a while.  I was at U of M 1990-1997 (undergrad and law school) and CRISPing was always an adventure.

I agree that it could be the…

I agree that it could be the coaching or JJ's processing, but regardless, I do agree with the OP that we need some faster releases on longer passes and you just have to trust the receiver.  If it gets out that quickly, the safety is unlikely to get over there in time if it's an outside throw so let your receiver go make a play.

The separation issue is also real and I've been fearing that maybe our receivers are not as good as we think they are, but I'd like to see them have the opportunity to prove me wrong.  Anthony is fast and has shown he can highpoint a ball.  Cornelius has a lot of drops, but he and Bell have made a fair amount of contested catches when given the chance.

+1 for Kaos.

+1 for Kaos.

Absolutely right.  Alabama…

Absolutely right.  Alabama has had horrific OOC schedules for years.   Plus they played one in the middle of the season so it was like a bye to get players healthy.  Until the playoff format changes, there is no incentive to schedule tough OOC games.

Wholeheartedly agree with…

Wholeheartedly agree with this.  Houstan was giving effort but his positioning was not always great and he would get beat by faster players or leave too much space and they would shoot over him.  TWill often simply lost his man and was standing in weird no-man's land on the court due to ball watching.  I can see the argument that TWill should have played more and I was as frustrated as anyone by Houstan's poor shooting most games, but the shot is clearly there.  I am hopeful he returns and makes a leap and that TWill gets more time at the 4.  We can only hope that the roster has better team chemistry next year.  More like when Mike Smith came in than Devante.

I agree. The combination of…

I agree. The combination of the loss of athletic wing defenders that also happened to be our best 3 point shooters has been lethal (Livers, Brown and Franz).  The lack of consistent 3 point shooting combined with mediocre to bad defense just leaves us with only a tiny margin for error.

Totally agree.  Such a…

Totally agree.  Such a promising group of talent (even a Rodney Dangerfield sighting) and the movie was just awful.

I don’t understand our use…

I don’t understand our use of Sainristil.  We throw him jump balls and deep passes.  He’s small and does not have great hands.  Why don’t the deep balls go to Baldwin and CJ?  Sainristil should be a slot with intermediate patterns at the most.

I would say great first 29…

I would say great first 29 minutes.  Screwing up a 1st and goal from the 2 and kicking a field goal on 3rd down seemed to take our momentum and flush it down the toilet.  We came out in the 3rd quarter and acted like we could just take knee the rest of the game and win.  It was infuriating and, as you say, seemed like we were playing not to lose. Score at the end of the 1st half or in the 3rd quarter and this game would have been a whooping.  I just do not get the play calling.

I just don't understand an…

I just don't understand an offense that claims "speed in space" that fails to run any swing passes to backs or effective screens.  Getting Corum wide seems like  no brainer, particularly in the game we just suffered through.  They had 8-9 man fronts that were tight and we ran right into the teeth of that over and over.

This is exactly my fear. …

This is exactly my fear.  Harbaugh has shown a reluctance to implement a big play passing offense.  When we had Nico Collins, Tarik Black and DPJ we were not a dynamic offense.  I just don't have confidence that "speed in space" will suddenly be what we thought we were getting when Gattis came in.

High West Midwinter Night's…

High West Midwinter Night's Dram and a Monte Cristo Robusto.  Pretty good night all in all.

I think Carr would be…

I think Carr would be absolute take.  On a team where he doesn't have to be the hero, I think his 3pt% would rise and his assists which are already good have a chance to be even better. An elite scoring guard is really what we missed this year.  Smith and Brooks both had games where they scored, but Carr would be upgrade in that regard.

If you want your dose of…

If you want your dose of ridiculous takes, just go over the RCMB for gems like "if FSU went to the line as much as Michigan, this game could have gone either way."

Hilarious.  I love this site and Bryan's sense of humor and depth of love for Michigan sports.  That being said, the "stab you in the face" look in pictures is pretty status quo.

Keep the faith, Bryan.  You've had a positive impact on so many of us fans.  Things will get better.  Even if there are a litany of examples of stupid along the way.

They should eliminate the conference tournament this year and make up the games if they can.  Enough Big Ten teams have missed games that the extra time would help.

Had a sazerac (the cocktail not the rye) then finished with some High West Midwinter Night’s Dram.  Great stuff.

What is with the slavish…

What is with the slavish dedication to running into the middle of the line on 3rd and 4th and short?

We haven't executed on that practically all season.  Run Corum wide to get one yard, throw a screen, anything but the up the gut that keeps failing.

And you're dead on with the second and short calls.  Where is the speed in space?  What a joke.

I agree.  I was complaining…

I agree.  I was complaining about this with several friends during this game.  Milton is not a deceive runner and McNamara is not the physical specimen to run those plays.  They were almost all failures.  Put Milton under center and sneak it or run a wildcat with Haskins if you insist on that kind of play.  I’d rather see us put in Mason and either hand it to him or run Haskins off his block.

the devotion to the QB run was baffling.  Plus I don’t want to see McNamara get hurt.

As much as I can in as short…

As much as I can in as short a time as possible.

I agree.  Tom Allen is not a…

I agree.  Tom Allen is not a good choice he can't recruit like we need.  He's a good fit at Indiana.  I also don't think Fleck's act will play in Ann Arbor.  Stoops, Venables, those are candidates I think would at least move the needle.  Honestly, though, I'm in a pretty hopeless frame of mind right now.

This, exactly.  I was saying…

This, exactly.  I was saying this all game.  The outside run was working and they were stacked to the middle.  We beat them to the edge multiple times but continually ran up the middle on 2nd and long leaving us in 3rd and long...not Milton's forte.  Very frustrating.

I don't think Milton sucked…

I don't think Milton sucked today at all.  He converted quite a few of those 3rd and longs.  The play calling of repeatedly running up the middle on second down did not put Milton in a good position to succeed.  As you say, it was his second game and he was pretty good on the slants.  Needed to run wide more.  We beat them to the edge a number of times, but inexplicably kept running directly into the teeth of their run defense.

Horrible by the coaches today.

It's addictive behavior and…

It's addictive behavior and I'm an addict.  If I try to watch casually, I'm back in 100%.  I need to just take the rest of the season and unplug and just hope basketball proceeds without a Covid interruption.

Agreed.  Also, lack of…

Agreed.  Also, lack of adjustment in the running game.  Between the tackles was not working.  State was selling out there, but the edges were open.  We did not run wide nearly enough.  The whole offensive plan was maddening.  Up the middle after a first down pass was incomplete left us in 3rd and 8 or 9 about a million times.  Terrible plan coming into the game and terrible lack of adjustments during the game on both sides of the ball.

I’ve been yelling this at…

I’ve been yelling this at the tv most of the game.  SMH.

Great games by Livers and…

Great games by Livers and Wagner.  Never let Purdue really get back in it after halftime.

Vitale was particularly bad…

Vitale was particularly bad yesterday.  Constantly talking up Cole Anthony, who is a good player, but when Michigan is winning by 20 maybe praise a few of their players.  Then openly calling for fouls on Michigan when there was already a huge disparity in calls in favor of UNC.  It was annoying.  I muted it for a bit, but then relented.

Overall just a horrific piece of work by Vitale.

Agreed.  Where have the wide…

Agreed.  Where have the wide receiver screens been all year?  It just seems like we put Patterson in situations that are not his strength.  Often 3rd and long situations, long patterns that require him to sit in the pocket where he tends to be jumpy, etc.  We had plays against State that I had not seen before or only rarely that let our athletes show their stuff.  More of that please.

Also, more Charbonnet.  Haskins is ok, but clearly not the better back and Wilson, while a good story, should not be vulching as many carries as he does.

I see this exactly.  We look…

I see this exactly.  We look tentative and skittish on offense.  The game plans fall flat and we look unprepared.

I guess all we can hope for is a turnaround, but I certainly don’t expect it.
