Thanks again!  You always

Thanks again!  You always give me something to watch in the middle of the night.

Whoops. I guess my memory

Whoops. I guess my memory failed me.

I might be wrong about who

I might be wrong about who this was, but I think it was Desmond Morgan who committed after Rich Rod was fired, during the coaching search.

Heiko, you do a supreme job

Heiko, you do a supreme job with these transcriptions! Every week I am impressed with how readable in text you make the coaches' spoken words. I know firsthand that transcribing isn't as easy as people assume and isn't fun either.

This week I noticed a minor error that tripped me up for a second:

"You can’t win doing that. But the greatest quarterbacks ever, and I’m not just talking about the scramblers. I’m talking about the guys that can buy the extra beat to get the ball off just by moving their feet a little bit. Make that third play I’m talking about."

This I think should be just two sentences to make it more readable:

"You can’t win doing that. But the greatest quarterbacks ever—and I’m not just talking about the scramblers, I’m talking about the guys that can buy the extra beat to get the ball off just by moving their feet a little bit—make that third play I’m talking about.

Just to clarify, the victims

Just to clarify, the victims in this case were NOT older than incoming college freshman.  In at least one case, the abuse began when the victim was ten and continued for four years.  I don't think that this is what you meant, but sometimes when the victims are seen as older teens it can mitigate the blame put on the perpetrator.  These victims were definitely children.

I agree that it would look

I agree that it would look great if the numbers matched, but the way they have been done for this season is an accurate throwback to the old design.

I thought I would hate it,

I thought I would hate it, but in the end I like that it's a more accurate throwback than the "Legacy" mish-mash uniforms.  The helmet number font is even accurate. It satisfies the uni-watcher in me, even if I understand the slippery slope argument against them.

According to legend, Bo

According to legend, Bo abolished the gray facemasks because he didn't like us having any of Ohio's colors on our uniform.

I don't know if it will work

I don't know if it will work come game time, but I found this one: http://www.firstrowsports.tv/watch/82405/1/watch-san-diego-st-vs-michig…

I see what you're saying.

I see what you're saying.  But if a school is really unhappy with NCAA findings (because of lack of evidence) what is their recourse?  How does this work?  Does the NCAA rely upon voluntary membership?

In Winnipeg, the novelty

In Winnipeg, the novelty never wears off.

I don't think it was

I don't think it was linguistic issues.  Montreal is a French-speaking city. Just about everyone in Canada can speak English, but in many parts of Quebec people speak French as their first language, and Montreal is definitely one of them.  When we went on there on our honeymoon, I was really surprised, it's like 99.9% French speakers. Other people speaking English were almost always visitors like us.  If one lived there and did not speak French they would probably have a difficult time socializing as their presence would force everyone into English mode and as it is not a novel language to them, it's not something they necessarily enjoy doing.  What I mean is, any sort of social/linguistic issues that might pop up with the players would be just as present in Montreal as they would be in Quebec City, is my opinion.

edit: I looked it up, and I'm going to post it here because it's late and I'm high and I think this is interesting.

In terms of mother language (first language learned), the 2006 census reported that in the Greater Montreal Area, 66.5% spoke French as a first language, followed by English at 13.2%, while 0.8% spoke both as a first language.[78] The remaining 22.5% of Montreal-area residents are allophones, speaking languages including Italian (3.5%), Arabic (3.1%), Spanish (2.6%), Creole (1.3%), Chinese (1.2%), Greek (1.2%), Portuguese (0.8%), Romanian (0.7%), Vietnamese (0.7%), and Russian (0.5%). mmm Flamin' Hot Cheetos.  I haven't been able to find those since I moved to Toronto. I don't know if its just this area or if they don't have them in Canada, but I use it as an excuse to pig out on them any time I'm in the states.

mgovideo has always been great, but it is also improving constantly. it's amazing. thanks!

I agree with you in principle

I agree with you in principle completely.  I think the idea is more that you endow a jersey in order to encourage the university to continue to recruit those types of players.  Braylon's hope was that he could nudge Michigan to continue to go hard after big time receivers in his mold, and give them his number.  I don't know if he truly expects veto power over who has the number, but I think he can reasonably expect it to stay on a WR. If I were the coach I'd give the number to my very best wide out, if I had one. I'd call up Braylon, let him know what kind of kid is going to be wearing his number, and then say, "Is that all right with you?" in such a way that he knows I'm not really askin', even though I am. It's the least I could do for his money.

Plus, I like big-time wide recievers, so I'm with Braylon on that.  I hope Michigan always makes that a priority. (no implication intended)

Any idea why?

I love how this was only a few years ago but the video looks like it was made in 1991.

I thought this idea sounded

I thought this idea sounded familiar.  I too feel like I've seen a video of a Michigan player with a helmet cam, but I can't remember for sure.

Yeah, and the peanut butter

Yeah, and the peanut butter vs. water matchup was just shameful.

I don't care about the argument,

I'm just replying to see how much skinnier this column can get.

Yeah, but that's not really a

Yeah, but that's not really a problem any of us can criticize because we'd all probably do the same exact thing if we had a constant stream of women (or men) trying to sleep with us.

I mean, even if you wear a condom every single time, at some point you're playing the rate-of-failure odds and every once in a while somebody's getting pregnant. I'm sure lots of athletes rationalize occasional unwanted children as the cost of having frequent sex with multiple partners.

But yeah, it costs a lot.

Maybe we should switch to LA

Maybe we should switch to LA Gear, then.

local flint media will

local flint media will probably cover it on the next news cycle at 5 or 6 pm, I don't think they'd do it live though.

"I was interviewing George

"I was interviewing George Halas and I asked him who is the greatest running back you ever saw. And he said, 'That would be Red Grange.' And I asked him if Grange was playing today, how many yards do you think he'd gain. And he said, 'About 750, maybe 800 yards.' And I said, 'Well, 800 yards is just okay.' He sat up in his chair and he said, 'Son, you must remember one thing. Red Grange is 75 years old.' "

Rumor has it the players

Rumor has it the players tried the new jerseys but didn't like them enough to use during any games.

He's not losing goodwill at

He's not losing goodwill at TCU, he's smartly responding in the affirmative (by not shooting down the possibility with a "I will never, ever leave TCU") so that he can leverage the supposed outside interest to get a bigger contract there. Or, he's being sincere and perhaps would consider the job here.

It's just Diddy now.  Get

It's just Diddy now.  Get with the program, sheesh.

Don't get your hopes up.

Don't get your hopes up.

More like give it a few

More like give it a few years.  Nobody likes new logos.  This logo isn't that bad.

I don't know.  That looks

I don't know.  That looks pretty complicated for most uses.  And although we're all in knee-jerk reaction mode due to the stupid division names and everything, I honestly haven't seen a better mockup of a proposed logo, anywhere.  All the designs I have seen have been jokes or an attempt to shoe-horn a 12 into the pre-existing negative space logo. The new Big Ten logo will take some getting used to but I think over time people will come to accept and appreciate it.  It is simple, useful, will display well on paper, wall, screen, or fabric.  It might not be as clever as the previous Big Ten logo but that logo was dated and needed updating. Give it time.

They don't have brown

They don't have brown sugar/cinnamon pop tarts in Canada. Or at least I haven't found them.  Probably the hardest thing I had to give up after moving here. /sadpanda

It looks like I'm not the

It looks like I'm not the only armchair typographer in the room.  As much vitriol as this logo is provoking, I can't seem to hate it.  It's not great -- when I found out the designer of the previous B10 logo had made other versions with hidden 12s I thought for sure they'd just dust off one of those.  This is a compromise on that idea -- you get to keep the "hidden" number (the 10 in Big) but go with something fresh and eschew focusing on the true number of teams, which from a branding perspective is moot. I wish they had unveiled some sort of icon-type logo that looks as good as the SEC logo put on officials, etc.

Those were the guys selected

Those were the guys selected to the All-Big Ten teams by the media and coaches, I think. Pryor is still hurt he wasn't on those teams.

edit: obviously not Newton, duh

Bingo.

Bingo.

I think it's brilliant.  Due

I think it's brilliant.  Due to the introdution of the wings the team is recognizable even if you can't see the O on the helmet, no matter the colors.  Eventually, they can eschew school colors altogether and go with any color combo they think looks good that week. It's the MTV logo of sports jerseys.  I don't like the numbers very much and it took them a while to reach a place where the combos look alright, but give them some credit for introducing a little avant garde into the football jersey world.  We, Penn State, and ND represent the opposite part of that spectrum but I can appreciate trying to do something new.

my conjecture

Probably DB decided long ago and is sticking to his timetable for an announcement as a way of drawing a line in the sand with the media, and sending a message to alums who never liked RR and tried their hand pursuading the new AD when the regular season ended.  High donor alums have figured out from their interactions with DB that he isn't wavering in his convictions so they've probably given up. Any recruits that are wavering may be told (see: D. Hart?) and RR probably knows that he is going to return unless we put up an egg at the Gator Bowl. So that leaves... us and the media who haven't figured it out yet to continue to speculate.

Then again, I always liked Rich Rod so that's just my hopeful thinking I guess.

Just a hint: when making up

Just a hint: when making up statistics, stick with numbers that are realistic.  98% of anybody agrees to nothing.

"Slippery Rock beat

"Slippery Rock beat Westminster, which beat West Virginia Wesleyan, which beat Duquesne, which beat Pitt, which beat Notre Dame, which beat Northwestern, which beat Minnesota."

I don't know about anybody

I don't know about anybody else, but I wouldn't feel too comfortable hiring anybody from Auburn anytime soon until a full investigation is complete, clearing the coaches. But maybe that's just my knee-jerk reaction to the pay-for-play situation.

Yeah, I like that he had the

Yeah, I like that he had the cajones to play a Josh Groban song to a room of football types. He seemed to know that it's probably not the type of thing they were expecting.

Dantonio is corny all the

I hate that I have to keep posbanging your posts, because I don't agree with you, but I also don't think you should be negged for stating your opinion.  This probably wasn't the best thread for it, though.
