Especially if the pay is…

Especially if the pay is good.

But really, you expected…

But really, you expected anything else? Wirtz sacrificed Stan Bowman and Joel Quenneville and then expected to avoid accountability. And Bettman protected an employer (ahem... rich owner). That's how it works, right?

Have we all given up on…

Have we all given up on Broderic Martin? Are we not going to re-sign McNeill? I'm more concerned with the OL. I'd be inclined to Powers-Johnson. I think planning for a Ragnow retirement is a must. And if Frank hangs on for a few more seasons we have a Zeitler replacement.

You needn’t. Your right…

You needn’t. You're right. Sadly.

Can believe it took this…

Can believe it took this long mention Ed Martin.

And what about that early morning roll over accident on M-14 with Taylor, Traylor, Bullock and Mateen Cleaves?

He’s got 5,000 guys holed up…

He’s got 5,000 guys holed up in the Ural Mountains who do nothing but flood social media with misinformation, conspiracy theories and outright lies. So hell yes I blame him.

For a man derided as aloof,…

For a man derided as aloof, distant, difficult and for having poor social skills, Harbaugh sure seems to have the respect and (dare I say) love of his players.

Right. And Juwan has been…

Right. And Juwan has been nothing but gracious about the outcome of his coaching at Michigan and has not left town or hidden. I spite of it all he remains a Michigan loyalist. It's a shame that coaching didn't work but there is no reason to turn our back on the Howard family. Jace should stay if he wants to and get his Michigan degree.

These mocks are so silly…

These mocks are so silly. Some sports writer has to remember and rank what, 206 players? My guess is Zinter was overlooked. And I'm guessing there were others.

The man with a plan.

The man with a plan.

There's a Hal McRae meltdown…

There's a Hal McRae meltdown that should never be forgotten.

You referring to number 1/8?…

You referring to number 1/8?

The Browns sent little person Eddie Gaedel to the plate in 1951. A gag thought up by Bill Veeck, who would not be welcome in todays world.

I'll pass. New York…

I'll pass. New York congratulates itself for being the center of the baseball universe (and all other universes) Reminds me of Ken Burns "Baseball." Should have been titles "Baseball in the Northeast." If you got up to get a beer at any point you likely missed any reference to baseball being played in places like Cleveland, Detroit, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, St. Louis. Some really great baseball, and great baseball stories, were about the St. Louis Cardinals. You wouldn't know it watching Ken Burns.

"With one or two more plays,…

"With one or two more plays, it's 31-30"

Yeah, but they didn't make the one or two plays. The Lions were in the Super Bowl if one of Kindle Vildor or Josh Reynolds made 4th Quarter plays. But they didn't and the Lions went home. That, my friend, is football.

DeVeon is still out there…

DeVeon is still out there grinding. That's cool. He must love the game because it sure doesn't pay well for getting your body beat up. And bless him but if he hasn't made the League by now it ain't happening. But he wore the winged helmet and will always be part of the Michigan family. Much respect for the man.

Disagree. I like Matt…

Disagree. I like Matt Painter. Decent guy, honest (by coaching standards) and a helluva coach. And I pull for them except when they play us.

Funny how Izzo is a jerk who has accomplished little in the past 10 years except skillfully ride a wave of media love. Painter is forgotten. But he’s the best coach in the Big Ten and has been since Beilein left.

They should give us a…

They should give us a substantial deduction on our MGoBlog membership.

Wait, what??

Ryan is tryin' to be the next Nick Saban School of Coaching Rehab? If I needed coaching rehab I'd find a coach a lot more like Saban and lot less than Ryan. Gotta hang with the winners.

Ha! Ha! Jim!!

I hired the best man at your wedding!

Oh yeah, Ryan? The jerk…

Oh yeah, Ryan? The jerk store called and they are running out of you.

It may be unreal how they…

It may be unreal how they recruit. But it is real how they coach.

Well, if Yale credits don't transfer Dusty May needs to call Harvey Keitel

 "nice to other people."

 "nice to other people."

Such an underrated quality in these times.

I'd forgotten Commander Cody…

I'd forgotten Commander Cody. I did see them at Hill Auditorium in, I believe 1972. An excellent show! A lasting memory, besides the music, was that the Commander stayed off to the side playing piano except when he stepped in front for Hot Rod Lincoln.

A true Ann Arbor band. The Commander himself had two degrees from U-M. Band member John Tichy earned a PhD at Michigan and went on the chair the Department of Aerospace and Nuclear Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic. Lead guitarist Bill Kirchen grew up in Ann Arbor.

I was at the John Sinclair…

I was at the John Sinclair Freedom rally at Crisler in late '71. Or was it early '72? The star of the show was Stevie Wonder. Waited until like 2am for John and Yoko to perform. The arena was thick with marijuana smoke.Quite the evening for this freshman.

RIP John. You were a true original.

I was at the John Sinclair…

The dreaded double post. Move along.

"reflexively highlight the…

"reflexively highlight the worst attribute of every thing or person in order to wallow in our collective misery"

Or perhaps highlight the enlightenment and virtue we have obtained by living in the 21st Century?

I am reminded of an early scene in the movie "Sleeper." The Woody Allen character is awakened from being frozen for 200 years. The doctor hands him a cigarette and tells him to inhale deeply. Apparently science in the future had proven that tar and nicotine is good for you.

What a cast! Flaherty was…

SCTV debuted on NBC tonight in 1981 ...

What a cast! Flaherty was Guy Caballero, the owner of SCTV. He sat in a wheel chair even though he could walk.

The guy on the left was funny, too. Died way too young.

You're 18. Live a little. Lindsay was gonna turn out just fine. So go to college when you are 20.

I’m not sure how good a guy he was but Jerry Tarkanian was a lot of fun. And he gave the NCAA the middle finger on the regular.

Keady to me will always be the guy with the worst comb over EVER.

Denny lived the next block…

Denny lived the next block over from me. That was before ball players made the big bucks and lived in middle class neighborhoods. He was married to Lou Boudreau’s daughter. And for a deceitful liar and criminal (albeit in the guise of a lovable rogue) Denny and Sharyn stayed together.

Aside…another well known Detroit player who also was suspended for gambling, Alex Karras, also lived in the neighborhood. Alex once bummed a cigarette from my mother at a PTA meeting.

Broadway Danny Rose was an excellent story. Both sad and heart warming. Also, Crimes and Misdemeanors was really good. Martin Landau and the great Jerry Orbach, among others.

Since he coached at Western he should have decent Michigan/midwest contacts.

Or he could team up with Vida Blue.

Well...no. That hatred…

Well...no. That hatred status is reserved for Ohio State. But the Avs made an excellent run at it.

I watched that game at an…

I watched that game at an absolutely raucous bar in Royal Oak. It was nuts. Mike Vernon pummeling Patty Roy. The crowd at the game, and in the bar, absolutely losing their minds. Maybe my greatest hockey memory. Only things close would be the 1980 Olympic win over the Russians and the 1997 Stanley Cup winning game against Philadelphia.

Aside: a different Avalanche memory...Marc Crawford losing his shit behind the bench and screaming at Scotty Bowman, who was wearing the classic Scotty smirk. Seems Scotty told Crawford that he knew Marc's father and he would be embarrassed by his behavior. Scotty was a world class shit disturber.

So Jim says McCarthy is the…

So Jim says McCarthy is the best quarterback at playing quarterback. I think Jim’s first love is coaching quarterbacks. And by his definition of the entirety of what a quarterback should be JJ is the best he’s ever seen at the collegiate level.

And Jim and JJ won a national championship together. What a ride.

Our offense philosophy…

Our offense philosophy... powerful run game...is not conducive to recruiting big time prospects. That's also why JJ was downgraded as a draft pick which, I notice, is no longer the case.

I believe that would be the date the portal reopens.

Osborn is currently Biff…

Osborn is currently Biff Poggi's DC at Charlotte. But of course he has Ravens connections. The Harbaugh brothers loved to swap talent.

Hey John...you need you boy Macdonald to get some DC experience send him my way. You can have him back when you need him.

Hey Jim...this guy Jesse Minter worked for me. Really a great young talent. Run, don't walk, to hire him.

Hey John...thanks for taking my boy Jay and helping him get his feet wet in coaching. But I need him now in Ann Arbor.

Hey Jim...you got a young coach who needs coaching up? Osborn you say? Send him my way. You can have him back if you need him.

Bill Belichick coaching…

Bill Belichick coaching under Wink Martindale? Won't ever happen but the thought makes me smile.
