Probably not as it then…

Probably not as it then defeats the purpose of the "no move until the ball hits the ground or receiving player" rule. Unless, I suppose, you take the risk of "no move" from the onside kick formation which would put the kicking team at a severe disadvantage.

I had no idea where Maryland…

I had no idea where Maryland Heights is, so googled it. Looks like it's right next to Earth City, MO which is one of the central distribution and warehouse hubs for carriers and online businesses.

Weird choice, man.

That said, the St Louis City Museum is absolutely amazing and should not be missed. STL Science Museum is free admission and it's also pretty fun. The zoo is also free!

And if you're into UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Cahokia Mounds are just about 15 minutes east of STL in Illinois. They were created by the mound-building native Americans and are the largest of its kind remaining in North America.

I totally would've gone if it weren't Good Friday.

If the Louisville folks were correct that he were on the verge of signing with them, then Warde swooping in at the 11th hour and closing the deal is, I would say, outmaneuvering Louisville.

May as well read up on the great locomotive chase if in/around Chattanooga and Atlanta.

And Kennesaw mountain battlefield north of Atlanta.

The Atlanta History Center is a great place to visit for civil war history. They have one of the actual trains (the Texas) that was involved in the chase.

That prospect grade takes into account college performance. His relatively lackluster stats pull down his grade.

Whether or not you enjoy…

Whether or not you enjoy judged sports, this entire closing sequence to win the 2021 championship has to give you chills. Michigan leads all night, but Oklahoma takes the lead on the penultimate routine, Michigan needs a massive performance on the final routine of the night on beam, and waiting in anticipation for the final team score to be calculated.

Spoiler - Michigan wins :P

Not a bad result so far,…

Not a bad result so far, given that DeAugustino was in the only underdog* matchup.

*He was lower-ranked than his opponent, although not by much. Not sure how much that matters in wrestling, but doesn't seem like him dropping the first match is an upset, at least.

Not a bad result so far,…

Triple post? Been a while since I've done that. Another triple post:

Did someone mention Tang? On my office shelf (ok, they were on different shelves, but they came together for this very special moment). Yes, I have a 40 year old Tang robot coin bank in my home office.

The other factor is that…

The other factor is that Izzo is now THE elder statesman amongst major conference coaches, having been there since 1995. After him, it's Leonard Hamilton at FSU (2002), Scott Drew at Baylor (2003), Bill Self at Kansas (2003), and Matt Painter at Purdue (2005).

His teams were extremely successful over the years and the longest they've gone without a FF appearance is 4 seasons.

Definitely a bit of a schmuck, but some great results as a coach.

He's kind of talking out of…

He's kind of talking out of both sides of his mouth. Major conference teams should get bids over small-conference auto-bids, but if we keep auto-bids, then the best way forward is to expand the field so major conference teams on the bubble can get more bids - but that money will be the determining factor as to whether or not tournament expansion happens.

I don't think anyone got it…

I don't think anyone got it wrong, per se. Imo, had George f'ing Steinbrenner not lured Henson away, he could have been every bit as good as JJ turned out to be. Brady was a very good college QB, but your jaw dropped at Henson's physical ability. His arm talent was elite and he could move, also. He was one of those guys you saw throw and you'd just go, "damn"

If you can't beat him, hire…

If you can't beat him, hire him? He'd be a good one to right (no pun intended) the ship before he re-retires and we hire someone else to take over in a few years, but I don't see him as a long-term solution. And he's already 62. May not want to step back into the coaching game.

On the other hand, maybe he…

On the other hand, maybe he's perfectly fine as long as he doesn't have the touch the ball (i.e., as a guard)

I think the lesson of both…

I think the lesson of both Stackhouse and Howard are that NBA coaching and NCAA coaching may as well be different sports.

Going the other direction, Beilein is also a case in point.

Mentioned earlier, we…

Mentioned earlier, Michigan and Florida recruited him hard out of junior college, but he committed to Mississippi State. He was captain of the team that beat Michigan 52-14 in the Gator Bowl at the end of the 2010 season (his senior year). Sad emoji.

Not to threadjack, but there is also a Michigan hat night for the Chicago Bulls (vs. Wizards) game on March 25. I would go, but that's spring break and we're flying out of town that morning.

Anyone want to go and sell me the hat? I guess I would also take DePaul since that's where I got my MBA.

We're good with smiley faces tho right?

JJ McCarthy, Gus Johnson

Speaking of leadership, though, remember JJ's commitment before his freshman year at Michigan. I'd say he ticked all those boxes.

oops forgot to link the draft network in the OP.

And yup, they did just that…

And yup, they did just that in signing Sam Darnold. QB in the draft for the Vikes looks likely, although they'd have to trade up as all the most recent mocks have JJ in the top 10, with some as high as top 5.

Yup, 8 semifinalists. I miscounted and put 7, but I can't edit the OP. Oh well...

Yup, happened to turn on BTN…

Yup, happened to turn on BTN after doing some early morning yardwork (clearing branches and things from a recent storm) and saw wrestling was on. Was about to change the channel since it was Penn State and Wisconsin or something before I realized it was the BTT. Stuck around and watched some nice matches! I don't know much about it, but it was fun to watch.

I'm such a sucker for post-season Michigan sports.

Upvoted, but I would just…

Upvoted, but I would just like to say that the whole "Lady whatevers" thing grates on me. It's a distinctly southern thing - Lady Dawgs, Lady Vols, Lady Gators, etc.

Our team comprises the Wolverine women, not the Lady Wolverines.

Pedantry over.

And game! What an insane comeback. 17 down to a 13 point victory. Wow!

Edit: great to see that sparty and brutus both lost lol

Great analysis by Dan…

Great analysis by Dan Orlovsky, but I am so over the Air Force 1s with no-show socks and suit look. I didn't like it when it got big and it's so played out now.

As for JJ's draft stock, I'm starting to see him in the top 10. These are all mock drafts updated within the past day.

CBS has Denver trading up with Atlanta to the 8 spot to take JJ (with ATL picking up Kork Coupons from the Vikings)

Yahoo (KJ Drummond) has Minnesota taking JJ at 11, presumably after trading Kork to the Falcons.

Another Yahoo mock has Minnesota trading up to the Chargers' 5 (!) spot to take JJ 3 spots ahead of Jayden Daniels.

SI (Luke Easterling) also has Minnesota trading up to #5 to take JJ as the 4th QB taken. Only non-QB in his top 5 is MHJr at #4.

Fun fact - the rocky mountain goat is an introduced species to the Colorado Rocky Mountains and taking over the range of the bighorn sheep, which is the endemic and much more docile species.

Lol... Found a picture of the shirt after I bought it. Hard to see, but I believe I paid $6.29 + tax for it. Sorry (not sorry) I got your shirt. It's pretty awesome!

Have you seen the Muscle…

Have you seen the Muscle Shoals documentary? If not, it's available free on Youtube. But I assume you have since you're going, but watch it again anyway!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKmGUIM1uAI

Never been to Muscle Shoals or Florence, but looks like they have a Frank Lloyd Wright house, if you're into architecture, or an Indian Mounds museum if you're into anthropology (I've been to the Etowah mounds in GA when I was a kid and the Cahokia mounds in southern IL more recently - really fascinating stuff). Looks like Helen Keller's birthplace is also near there.

Huntsville isn't too far from there (maybe an hour or so) and is an interesting town with all the space/rocket stuff (US Space and Rocket Center - my old boss's father used to work there in the 60s). It's actually a pretty charming city.

Probably another 45 min east of Huntsville is the Unclaimed Baggage store. Kind of a weird kitschy thing to do, but they sell stuff from unclaimed airline baggage - both passenger stuff and commercial stuff. We stopped by on the way from Nashville to Atlanta and I found a Michigan t-shirt which I bought - blue with The Team The Team The Team printed on the front.

Different scenarios, though…

Different scenarios, though.

The Bama boosters (probably with Saban's knowledge) paid recruits to come to Alabama. They didn't necessarily pay them to stay.

It was also much less attractive to transfer due to the 1 year ineligibility rule. Once they got rid of that and the portal was open season, things changed a bit. Then with the advent of NIL, it literally became free agency - a problem they never had to deal with before.

Whatever you think of Saban, the game has changed. That Michigan suffered so few impact transfers over the years (Sabb notwithstanding this year) speaks highly of the kids they have. But I am under no illusions that we will see this consistently. It is the wild west, pandora's box is open, etc.

It absolutely is a figure of…

It absolutely is a figure of speech. Nobody literally showed their ass. Having grown up in the south, I've always heard this as someone making fools of themselves. I believe it's a very southern idiom.

Other random observations:

Other random observations:

  • Wow, Nate Wiggins is FAST, dropping a 4.29s 40
  • Max Melton (Rutgers) and Daequan Hardy (PSU) tied with 4.39s
  • Kalen King (PSU) ran a 4.61 - oof... His broad jump and vertical were also below average. Not very impressive.
  • Melton seems pretty athletic though and tested well. Top broad jump (11'4") overall so far.
  • Sainristil's average 40 and an above average 10 yd split suggests that he accelerates quickly, but lacks a top end. By contrast, Wiggins had the fastest 40, but well below average 10 yd split of 1.59 (second slowest split);.

EDIT: looks like Kris Jenkins had 29 reps on the bench, which is tied for third best (Jordan Jefferson has 34 and Jared Verse had 31).

Sainristil had the 2nd fastest shuttle at 4.01s. Really nice time! 5th fastest 3 cone time at 6.99. He's having himself a good combine.

5th fastest out of the 19…

5th fastest out of the 19 DTs listed. That's pretty good. His vert wasn't as impressive, more middle of the pack, but he is also tied for 3rd for broad jump and has the 5th fastest 10 yard split.
