Nope

On more than one level.

I just threw up in my mouth a little

Uh...

Every year

How is this piece one of the best things I read every year, not just on this blog, not just on this subject, but on anything anywhere? I look forward to it every year. Thanks again, Brian.

Missed opportunity for the Cure Bowl

Kickoff is *not* 10:15 Saturday night.

Glasgow-on-Glasgow violence

I wonder what percentage of their talent we can attribute to them practicing against each other. It's gotta be serious motivation not to let your brother beat you.

Recruit more brothers split on both sides of the line.

Welcome in Jaaaaaaaaam...

Or am I misreading a Chris Morris reference?

That diamond formation

I think Madden 2005 had a play like that for the Falcons where Vick would fake a handoff in a bootleg then circle around and follow his three backfield blockers, plus the WR. It ended up being one of those plays that got banned in games with my friends.

Keep Marcus

Harbaugh meltdowns signify something that is bad, they are not bad in and of themselves. Marcus' double-bird, however, is a player of chaotic evil alignment who did something bad (by the rules) who added to his badness (culturally speaking) in a bad game (for us). That is all kinds of bad.

Oh, okay

I literally had to say out loud "Bo blew a fit" to get what was trying to be said.

Wait, what about Bo?

Short version is the Huskies stole it from some Vancouver hockey fans, then M cheerleaders picked it up on the '83 visit and taught it to Michigan Stadium, where the bowl was a natural fit (and Bo blew one).

Okay, so, the plural noun that immediately precedes "one" in the parenthetical is "cheerleaders." This might require re-phrasing and/or clarification.

Hockey seniors and the CBA

This is a longstanding flaw in the CBA that I complained about way back in the day when it was instituted.

Really? I missed that. I would've guessed you'd be okay with a player sacrificing a year-plus of pay for a college degree and autonomy in where he gets to play in the NHL.

I dig tiny numbers on jerseys

I sorta see what you're saying, Seth, but when I see a player with small numbers on the jersey, I think, "crap, that dude must be huge."

I think he's honest, anyway

Just read Brian's comment in the practice notes that he thinks Fisch sounds neutral. I disagree, or, at the very least, there's a lot less coachspeak and equivocation here.

More Fisch interviews

This dude doesn't mess around. I wonder if that honesty has anything to do with his weird career path...

Nice pants, Jim

I think he asked them for a pair of Colon's old pants. Either that or he bleached the hell out of a pair of his khakis.

Good to read about Tuf Borland

Yeah, Harbaugh didn't have much time, but not even a solid 3* name guy in this first class.

Caveat esor

Hot avocadoes are one of those love-it-or-hate-it things. Be prepared.

(Also, I cannot comprehend why people eat shrimp and cheese.)

Thanks for the memories

Fred and Seth.

As Fred isn't reading this, I'll focus on the thanks-Seth part by saying I really enjoyed the memory lane of the early '90s. That was the time period when Michigan football fixated itself as my strongest emotional relationship with a sport. Saturday afternoons with my dad, helping him with some kind of home improvement project, watching Michigan football...him cursing at the TV, at the shelving, at me (usually not with proper acumen). Funny how those are good memories now. <shrugs>

Also, holy crap: Touchdown Tim was better than I remembered, and I remember him being as good as Wheatley.

So this is what it's like when M has professionals in charge

I had forgotten what that looked and sounded like. Huh!

Yes, I scratched my head at that one too

I was a mere lad when Harbaugh was playing.

Duh, of course

I forgot about that important part. Guess I had a brain cramp after all. ;)

Am I having a brain collapse

or did we not pick up a transfer from some rinky-dink school in...Massachusetts? Some kid who might be underratedly good?

MARR = still older

So if MAAR put up great numbers against younger competition, he will still be playing against a lot of younger competition in college. Maybe the drop-off won't be so bad, and, after a year of Beilein, he could be a man amongst boys again. (Well, metaphorically.)

Aha

So then all we have to do is get a time machine, go back to 2009, change the outcome of the tournament, and change the NCAA rules, while...wait, what was this place up to back then? Oh wait, year one of GERG. I'm staying here.

Bemidji, Minnesota!

<crickets>

Yes, we have crickets!

<...>

Maybe if the hockey team does a weird out-of-conference game in 2019? Well, er, how about Minneapolis then? I'd probably drive five hours.

recruting Froholdt

Can we just send Steve Everitt out to recruit anybody with Viking in their lineage?

Ah yes, the press

I remember that Gladwell article now...at the time, I gave it something more than a circumspect raised eyebrow, but that could be because I think I bailed on him early and so was always skeptical.

Thanks for answering my Q on the matter, Brian. Good explanation. I grok.

Shortening the shot clock and Bo Ryan

More possessions in which to get aggravated by how they play? This is doubleplusungood.

Excellent work

Another fine job from you.

Looking at just the B1G by school map, is it just me, or does it seem like Wisconsin's geographic reach is mighty impressive?

Bundesliga ahoy

I also thought about adopting a Bundeliga team in lieu of the NHL. Yeah, it's not really a 1-to-1 trade, but I don't know Thing One about soccer, and Bundesliga because I am trying to avoid crazy rabid Premiership fans. If we get an official MGoFußball team chosen, then I'd be greateful.

Do we have a scholarship open?

I mean, let's offer one to Barker just cuz. (Also, no idea how, but I still have the ability to hate on UMN even as they flounder.)

Wait just a second

In that photo, if he were to reach up to those tacos, Charlton could catch a ball thrown to Tacopants. I don't mean to alarm you all, but this might be Tacopants in corporeal form.

GRIII will be a salve...

...for my Jason Grilli memories. The psychic ouchies I'll get reading GRIII will wear off and, hopefully, one day, will replace the Grilli memories. Now if only something can replace 2006's E1.

tl;dr for DIE RR DIE crowd

...damn shame, though, as, really, you hit the points that have to be hit to show why firing him was a bad idea. Good job. (Though I don't get what it is with you kids and those Beetles...)
