I'd love to get Davis, but given the alleged NIL issues we have I think I'd rather we go get some younger, less expensive players instead. 

Davis is only gonna be here a year, and next year is not gonna have a title run. Build for the future if this kid just wants a big bag.

My completely biased opinion says yes, he has the physical tools and intangibles to be a top 5 QB. However, as important as the position is in itself you need the right system and players and organization around you to really thrive in the NFL. 

So it all really depends on where he goes, how they can help him develop and what sort of talent is around him. For his sake, I hope he goes to a situation where he can sit for a couple years and learn and grow, a la Aaron Rodgers. 

I hear he does have a particular set of skills.

I, too, have recently shed a large amount of unwanted baggage.

We only got about 80% of it here in Atlanta and honestly, if I didn't know we were having an eclipse I wouldn't have noticed. Just felt like a cloudy afternoon.

One of my favorite Final Fours was '99 when Rip Hamilton and Khalid El-Amin took down Duke for their first national title. Have had a soft spot for UConn since then.

Interesting to see Boeheim on your list of unlikeable coaches. Having grown up in upstate NY (Rochester) I know nothing but massive love for Boeheim. I was never a Syracuse fan but Boeheim doesn't seem to fit into the same category of Izzo and Knight, etc. 

I'd like to see the final roster before we even begin to think about what might be possible. 

But I do hope to see a cohesive team that plays well together and gets better as the season progresses. Year 1 likely cannot be measured by on-court success (wins). And like most others, I don't give a fuck about OSU basketball. 

Did you miss the part where Rod Moore is basically out for the year? We won't have the best defense again, probably top 10 still but definitely not a generational one like last year.

I've probably learned more off the Mgoblog board than I did in college. Of course, I didn't go to Michigan so that plays a factor. 

I'm very excited to see how he recruits and develops here. Clearly he knows what he's doing if he can build FAU to be really good KenPom teams and then make a Final Four on top of that.

Outside of bringing John Beilein back I think this is about as good a hire as we could expect. Even more impressive that Warde pulled this one off.

247 has some more details on the process - it's paywalled, but gist is Warde actually had his shit together LAST year and Dusty May was on his radar even before he made the Final Four.

Historically they are a better basketball program than Michigan and is a basketball school. Louisville is probably a top ten basketball job, Michigan is probably top 20 - 25. 

My favorite was the OSU guy on Twitter saying May is just a flash in the pan and it was a bad hire. Would love to see the alternate universe tweets if they had gotten May.

I was on the Medved wagon with Brian but I am happy with Dusty May. 

Turned in 6 straight winning seasons at a place that 4 in the previous 17? And the last two (sans an early tourney out) looked pretty dang good. 

I think this guy can coach. If he can take over a dumpster fire like FAU, I think he'll be fine here. Curious to see if he can bring any of his guys with him to help 'speed up' the transition here.

Are they on the NBA's radar now? If not, seems likely he could get one or two of them to come with.

UCLA in 1995 was my first bracket win - the O'Bannon brothers and Tyus Edney were quite the team to watch. 

Who exactly has May landed that piques your interest? Is the CUSA/AAC really a higher level than the MWC these days? 

May's recruiting classes since 2020 have been: 179, 107, 103 and 129 per the 247 composite. That doesn't look like higher level recruiting to me. 

Medved has brought in: 126, 128, 138 and 129 in that span. Looks like 2023 was a tie in rankings? Those look basically the same to me as far as recruiting levels at schools that are not power schools or in power conferences.

Medved also has twice the experience as May - that gives him the nod in my book.

Would not be upset with either of them though, but right now May just feels like the popular choice based off one year, a Final Four is nothing to slouch at but other than he hasn't done much. Abdur-Rahim feels like too much of an up and comer to me. We're not an elite hoops school but I think we can get an established guy. I'd go Medved, May and then Devries.

That may be the path for him eventually (analyst to on-field) but I'd prefer we get an experienced DL coach now.

I would not be unhappy with Dusty May, but Brian's reasoning behind Medved's more sustained success / track record has me on board with Medved as #1 and May as #2. 

I love Sam's optimism but Greg McDermott, really? I'd be absolutely shocked if he came here, moreso than Shaka Smart even. Kick the tires cuz you have to, but that feels as likely as Urban Meyer coming on as our new DL coach.

As the season goes on you can give him more reads in the passing game but I think above would be more than enough to get us to Columbus at 9-2 or so.

Neg away, but I led off my comment with GREAT HIRE. I just don't think it's "jaw dropping" to get a rival's assistant coach. 

I'm not mad about it, but I expected it to be a bigger name, like some RB whisperer or something. OSU hasn't exactly thrilled me with their RB play lately, but I said great hire and I do expect him to be great on the recruiting trail. 

And no, I didn't think it was a jaw dropping hire when OSU got Mattison.

Great hire, by all accounts dude is a stud recruiter. But this isn't exactly the "jaw dropping" hire Sam Webb made it out to be on 247 - like many I am done paying for "insider" information. 

Caveat: I am not as knowledgeable about the basketball team as I am about football.

1.) I cannot speak to this but he clearly cannot do this at the level of Beilein. 

2.) It could be that coming from the NBA Juwan was used to having all-world talent and being able to rely on superstars, who for the most part are training with their own coaches outside of practice/team activities. I can see how Juwan would be lacking the skill in this department. 

3.) Similar to #2, with the nature of college sports you have a constant influx of new talent of wildly varying degrees, especially in this day and age of NIL and the portal (you won't have stacked teams full of future NBA stars like you once did). This ties into relationships and culture but it feels sort of like RichRod trying to put square pegs into round holes on day 1 instead of working with what he had and then phasing in what he wanted once he got his players - but Juwan has his players so there seems to be no logic for his failure here.

4.) I don't get this, you'd think a former college and NBA player would have a better ability to connect and form good relationships with his players and create a great culture. 

Just my thoughts based on what I've seen of the team and read here. 

I don't doubt Moore can be more impactful than McBurrows at Nickel, but can McBurrows play CB though? That's what my concern is. He was seemingly prepping to play Nickel, which is a very different role than outside CB. Personally, I was hoping DJ Waller would be able to fill the outside CB role, he's got some great size and seems like he has the inside track to the spot. 

Hopefully, he can move outside without any issues, but like you said either way it gives us some flexibility. 

I'm happy it looks like Johnson is coming back but it doesn't move the needle for my expectations for this defense. He was becoming a bigger contributor near the end, but I'd be much more excited if we had been able to keep Sabb.

I think the key thing to remember is that last year's defense was historically great, for anyone, ever. So even IF we field another elite defense there will still be drop off. 

I'd be really excited if we were getting back another DL for the rotation - as Brian and Seth have said numerous times, this was a big factor to their success, being fresh all the time. 

Don't get me wrong, I think this could still be a top 5 defense but when you were the 2nd greatest defense of "all-time" anything less is gonna be a sizable step back.

Agreed. But I'm just not sold on anyone outside of MHJ in this draft. I know Caleb Williams is seen as the consensus #1 QB but I don't see it. I think Williams, Maye and Daniels all look about the same to me and then obvious bias toward JJ but I think he has a great chance to be better than any of those three. 

I also lumped in team interviews with participating, so if we're just talking on-field drills then ya'll have changed my mind.
