Right on! It will be one hell of a football game next year! Likely, an important national game.
That's what makes this so fun and intense.
Both teams bringing back TONS of talent.
Patterson is a HUGE X-factor.
Some gridiron drama. I love it! Always have.
Peace! (And a bit of war ;) )

Dude, break down sports and

Dude, break down sports and team allegiance for about 5 minutes and the whole thing becomes just embarrassing - just like almost everything else we care about. But it's entertaining to me. As I have eluded earlier, I have friends (very close friends) that love this game and the rivalry. We have fun with it. So I'm going to keep it up until dance recitals, Netflix, picnics, and the Kardashians become more entertaining.

Oh Frigid...
I'm 45 years old. I have lived in Michigan - all over Michigan - my whole life. Over those years my family, friends, and acquaintances split about 40/60 MSU/UofM.
Unless I'm an anomaly, I can assure you that you are wrong.
I'll go one further: MSU being obsessed with UofM is less pathetic than UofM acting like they aren't interested in MSU's fooball success, and not just because they're just another obstacle to winning the BigTen. It just goes with the rivalry...I get it - pretending.
I remember the Fab-5 like it was yesterday. Man, we're UofM fans hoopsters back then.

Haaa!
Well, I did graduate

Haaa!
Well, I did graduate from MSU. I like to check out Mgoblog from time to time. Mostly because UofM is our main rival. Just some smack talk and some occasional football camaraderie (as unlikely as that may seem).
I'm guessing you're an independent - politically speaking. You can probably see that they're all full of it. I'd say more, but you'd probably be hated even more. Cheers.

Do you realize that Lewerke

Do you realize that Lewerke was MSU's starting QB last year? He broke his leg very early in the season. How much do you think MSU would beaten UofM by if MSU was not playing a backup QB? Not to mention the enormous amount of other backups that had to play due to injury?
How many times did Dantonio use that excuse???
True freshman on the OL? Does that matter? Does playing with inexperienced backup OL matter? Dantonio was one play (broken leg) away from being 3-0 vs Harbaugh.

Aside from a few here

Aside from a few here (probably more than a few), can UofM fans just accept that we have a very real rivalry? Maybe accept that a really good coach can turn a program around? Does anyone remember Bo? Or was his "luck" just based on the fact that MSU was struggling in the 70's and early 80's?

Ha! You mean except for you

Ha! You mean except for you and all of the Mgoblogers.
Everyone knows UofM is a higher bidder, and that's all corporate interests care about.
Congrats on having a bigger fan base.

Are you ripping on MSU fans

Are you ripping on MSU fans or UofM fans?

Hmmmm

Dantonio will take a lot blitz chances on D.
My guess is the game will be won or lost on those plays.

Solid D, solid O.
17-7 at

Solid D, solid O.
17-7 at half vs Iowa.
What's so LOL?

Oh my.

MSU looking 8-4. Next week in EL is a toss up.

MSU

Maybe, just maybe, MSU has a decent team.
A decent, well coached, young team.
Next week will tell all.

Or Bell...

Lots of work on that original post.

Mark Twain: There are three kinds of lies...lies, damn lies, and statistics.

Maxwell is a RS JR, and his staff and players have a ton of confidence in his ability and decision making.  The WR's are young, but he's been practicing with guys like Lippett, Mumphrey, and Fowler for a couple of years, and Arnett should be good to go in no time.

Baker was a really good RB, but he left to the NFL, in part because he lost the starting job to Bell.  More carries for Bell is not a bad thing.  And not sure if Caper was considered in the count of returning contributors, but he should be.  And both are really good for short passes.   That's a strong 1,2.  Probably the best in the big ten east of Wisconsin.  Maybe better.

The o-line has 4 returning starters, and able back ups.  3 returners started for the first time last year.  Gotta imagine they've improved.  Actually, they were pretty good by the end of last year.

Sims is the biggest x-factor, IMO. 280 and still an athlete.  Could cause all sorts of mis-match situations.

MSU's O could be better that last year, and MSU's O only needs to be average. That D is Saban era good.

And what about Conroy?  He's one of the top kickers in the league.

A poster mentioned BSU with an 8-man box.  They play a 3-3-5.  Remember that D?  Bell is 244, and a bear for even a LB.  A DB will get pummelled.

37 holds by Lewan that game -

37 holds by Lewan that game - all recorded and sent to the committee.

This is going to hurt Lewan more than that punch to the helmet.

Personally, I love it.

I love the way the whole division thingy broke down.

The bigten is becoming really tough - esp for teams like MSU and UofM that play ND every year.

May be fun to rip on ND, but they are going to be really good for many years to come.

Point being, every team needs a break here and there - can't play all of the good teams every year.

The divisions split up/protected game favors MSU.  It mostly comes down to region and recruiting.

There will be years where MSU gets dumped on with cross division tough teams, but here's what we have with the division automatic games:

OSU and UofM were split in different division.

MSU gets UofM.  No offense, but I'd rather play UofM on a consistant basis.  And MSU players can get up for this game like no other.

PSU and NEB split.

PSU gets a lot of first picks in Pennsylvania recruiting.  Neb gets the state of Nebraska.  Neb is always relying heavily on imports.  Not sure what the draw is in Nebraska aside from football history, which PSU already has - probably more history.

Wisconsin and Iowa split.  Iowa is a good program, Wisconsin is better.

Of the remaining teams (not counting MSU), Illinois has the most potential to be a strong program.  Purdue is probably second.  Neither are in MSU's division.

MSU gets Minny and Northwestern as automatics...and IU as a protected "rivalry":).

Those should all be 9 out of 10.

Dantonio is pulling in some bigtime programs pre-bigten season (Boise, West Virginia, Bama..twice).  That might be tough, but the division break down looks to have MSU bowling for decades.  And recruiting well for a nice long time.

Terry got a 4, HEY!

Terry got a 4, HEY!

Terry got a 4, HEY!

Terry got a 4, HEY!

Terry got a 4, HEY!

He already had a 4 from...I think espn's ranking system.  Maybe it was a day after that chart came out.

Maybe, he's actually good enough to be a 4.

Or maybe, the rating sites are finally got embarrassed enough by MSU sending half of their sr class and two jr's to the NFL, and back to back 11-win seasons with mediocre class rankings.

Maybe, some MSU players should get a bump.  Dantonio is clearly seeing something the recruiting sites are missing.  Maybe an MSU recruit should be considered for that majestic star bump.

2* guys for MSU during the Dantonio era: Trenton Robinson, Le'Veon Bell, Darqueze Dennard, Joel Forman.

3* guys for MSU during the Dantonio era: Greg Jones, Kirk Cousins, Nick Foles (left from competition), B.J. Cunningham, Johnny Adams, Keshawn Martin, Jerel Worthy, Denicos Allen, Travis Jackson, Marcus Rush, Anthony White.

Lots of 3 star future NFL prospects in the 2011/2012 classes.

I'll just leave their names out for now, but there are a lot of them.

And yes, there are some high ranked players as well:)

Most of the UofM football journalists are saying that MSU and Dantonio are for real, and are here to stay.
