If I’m the coaching staff, I use this as motivation (not that they need it) for these last three games. Don’t let off the gas in any of them, especially Mr Third Base and his Ohio State Softeyes
My twins go to Purdue so I’ve watched them quite a bit this year again. Hudson Card doesn’t do a good job taking care of the ball. He is very gifted athletically but not a good “processor”. It would not surprise me to see the defense score 2 to 3 times.
Purdue also plays way off WRs. They don’t have good corners. CJ, Roman and company may have huge nights. this could easily be a 63-0 or worse game.
Yeah that never would’ve happened. One reason Coach Knight liked Indiana was it was easy to recruit a basketball crazy state. Drew Sharp I never liked.
The entire Big 10 really stinks this year. Yes it is fun watching Michigan destroy these teams but I wish they actually had some competition to prepare for the playoffs. The entire Big 10 West is terrible on offense and most on defense.
I don’t think Penn St nor OSU are that hot either. Both have a lot of flaws. I guess both will be better tests than the shitty teams Michigan has played thus far.
still it’s hard not to absolutely love this team. I so hope they can stay healthy. The depth, the play, the lack of stupid penalties (at least by the starters) the discipline are just fantastic. I think the Purdue game will be another where it’s a name your score. They may hit 70 against the Boilers who are the exact opposite.
Funny you should post this. I have twin sons who are freshman at Purdue this year. We watched a lot of Purdue (and Michigan) basketball last year and I said going into the tournament last year that Purdue’s team had no killer instinct. I watched them blow several games and wasn’t shocked when they lost to St Peters.
The returning guys and their freshmen do in fact seem to have the killer instinct in a major way. Braden Smith and Fletcher Loyer have impressed me to no end. Those two are warriors and it’s easy to see why they start. They also have a team full of role players who play really well together. Your comment on Coach Belein is not lost on me. They play much like those Coach B teams. Very fun to watch.
My family already enjoyed watching them in person beat the buckeyes in Columbus after being down like 12 or 14 in the first half. We’re heading to Purdue this weekend to hopefully watch them take down Sparty again.
while I really like some the players on this current Michigan team, I really miss Coach Belein
Thanks again for your terrific work. I have totally enjoyed your write ups this season which has been so much fun. Like everyone else, I was so disappointed with last night’s performance and result. But on a night when so much went wrong and with so many bad decisions by the coaches, Michigan was in this thing down to the wire. It’s hard to believe they lost by only 6.
In spite of 3 very bad plays, JJM also showed a proverbial ton of grit.
Quite frankly, I blame this loss on the coaching staff in the end. The thinking of both sides of the ball was quite mysterious at times. The 3rd and 8 blitz discussed at the start of the article was quite frankly the worst. Why blitz there?
I also think the coaches underestimated TCU. They have some gritty playmakers.
I always hate the off season for Michigan football. But I think there’s a ton to learn from this game and a lot to look forward to in 2023.

I think there’s a ton of pressure on OSU coaches for this game. The natives are already getting restless. A large loss may make them more so. A win and Day gets some reprieve
As a Bengals and Raiders fan, I detest the Steelers. Franco was a classy dude though. The entire city will be in mourning this weekend as they "celebrate" 50th anniversary of his reception. Sort of weird that they are retiring his jersey. Would have thought they'd done that a long time ago.
Good write up as usual. I'd have put a star on Mockobee though. I've watched Purdue a lot this year (my twins are freshmen there). I don't understand why he got no reps against Penn State. When he's in the game, the Boilers offense is much more diverse and challenging. He is really good runner IMO. Charlie Jones is almost like Cooper Kupp to me (except faster).
Like everyone, I think if Michigan plays their "normal" game, this is like a 42-17 or something score though. Brohm is 3-0 against top 3 teams and I think it is when they are taken lightly that they sneak up on people. I also think the backup C is a weakness of this line and I expect that to be exploited.
It’s probably a good idea. Stroud won’t be playing and I wonder if some other draft eligible types will. Also don’t see fans traveling for it. I live in Columbus metro and a lot of folks ain’t happy right now

I don’t think you can say a Tressel or urban team wouldn’t have collapsed. Both had teams get upset at times. I can think of Purdue and Iowa spanking OSU a couple of times in recent years.
I do think Ryan Day is not nearly as aggressive a play caller as urban weenie. Thought they should have gone for it when they had 4th and 6 late. As I recall though Michigan did stop them a couple of times on 4th.
Michigan took their best punches in the first half and were down only 3. I know I felt they were in great shape at half in spite of the time and yardage advantage to OSU. Just think they were mentally tougher and more focused.
I have yet to watch TCU. USC looks very dangerous to me. Caleb Williams is really fun to watch tho. Fun to watch him light up Notre Dame last night.
I actually just hope the top 4 teams win their games this weekend. Don’t want to see OSU trying to sneak into playoffs. If TCU would lose or USC would lose I could see that happening.
I agree with the other posters about the mindset of this team. Still, Purdue has the advantage of being a huge underdog playing with house money. They have a solid QB, TE and WR corp. their RB Mockobee is really good. However their starting C is out and their defense is even more susceptible to big chunk plays than OSU. I could see this being a 42-17 type game.
As a fan who has loved Michigan football for 53 years and who also happens to reside in metro Columbus, I can say it will be fun to watch all the bickering in the next 12 months. After last year’s game I was at a Christmas party and one diehard OSU fan guaranteed me that OSU would destroy Michigan this year. I went ahead and bet him that Michigan would win. Can’t wait to hear him whine. I’ll just smile and enjoy. In many ways this win is even more sweet than last year’s due to the adversity of being in the Toilet Bowl with all the crazy fans and losing Corum.
Kudos to the players and coaches.
One more thing: it was also so fun to watch JJ grow in his confidence and maturity right before our eyes. He’s a warrior

Purdue is an awful team this year. Very mistake prone. It wouldn’t shock me to see the defense have multiple TDs on turnovers.
They have some good players but not enough. I suspect most Michigan players who are dressed to play at some point.
