I have to think that there

I have to think that there are students and alumni of that school who 1) are disgusted by what happened, 2) are disgusted by the lack of action from Paterno and company, and 3) like watching college football. I mean, none of the undergrads there with season student tickets were even there when any of that happened. They can't root for their team?

PSU football fans who stand by Joe Paterno leave me speechless, but saying "PSU football fans are pro-child rape" without any qualification is a bit much.

On another note, can Barstool just be added to the list of sites/commentators that aren't allowed to be mentioned on this blog? Just don't look, just don't look, just don't look...

I like this statistic and

I like this statistic and will now choose to irrationally ignore every other one I see or hear between now and Saturday night (looking at you, McSorley completion percentage).

Hear, hear

I've had a good time watching this team this season. A friend of mine who made the poor life choice to live in Columbus tells me that a lot of the talk the last couple days there has been "You see they had a guy run for 200 yards against Indiana?

What if this team can pull a Beilein and continue to improve over the course of the year?

Here's hoping that the progression towards Higdon as the primary RB is similar to Beilein's move to run the offense entirely through Walton last season. Isaac and Evans are nice and can do some great things (and Irvin was nice and could do some great things). But Higdon (Walton) is the man now.

I like your optimism (which

I like your optimism (which doesn't necessarily seem to be shared by the authors of this blog). I say 9-3, 10-2 if we're lucky. Yes, I am fully aware that my assessment is not objective.

Agree that kickers have to be most pleasant surprise. I'm not entirely shocked that a team that has had some good DB play lately would put together some good DB play this year (even though there was that press conference).

Seems like it's been a little while since I felt warm and safe to see a Michigan kicker walk out on the field (as opposed to involuntarily twitching).

Has there been an O'Korn vs

Has there been an O'Korn vs bad weather? Feels like there has.

height don't matter

Jourdan Lewis just had some Twittering about how height doesn't matter in CB vs. WR. Granted, he's one of the best cover corners in recent memory, so it's easy for him to say that height doesn't matter.

I completely agree, though, that McSorley versus our DBs is they key matchup. I get that you can't let Barkley run rampant, but you'd also love to see a couple INTs. Barkley's (deserved) star power is overwhelming the natiaonal and even local conversation about this game.

Here's hoping everyone's talking about Hill and Long after this game and not Barkley.

Baker Mayfield? Man, this

Baker Mayfield? Man, this team would be good enough to compete for a national championship if Jake Rudock is currently the Michigan QB--they'd be undefeated, they'd have a monster D, and they'd have a smart QB whom I could never imagine ending three drives in a row with interceptions (yes, I know, not all of those were on JOK, but three drives in a row???).

You can win a championship without blowing out every other team on the schedule. This team deserves to be ranked in the teens. A reliable QB would put them solidly in the top ten if not top three or four.

Also, Denard was smaller. And

Also, Denard was smaller. And he got hit. And he got injured. So.

pretty much, yeah

Yeah, that was unclear, but this is more or less what I was saying. Fine, you win, it's P5 football, so, okay, yes, they are all large, large human beings with big muscles who can run very fast.

Rich Rod's offenses just can't hang, and thanks for the help in proving my point. I was responding to a post whose author was wishing to have the 2010 offense back--an offense that, in spite of having arguably very good players, scored a total of less than 40 points across two rivalry games and a bowl game.

Maybe the guy I was responding to was sort of, like, saying that he wished that THIS team and coaching staff had THOSE offensive players from 2010.

stubborn or conservative?

It's like one of those analyses you see that shows how teams should go for it on fourth down more often. Coaches are risk averse. Regardless of sport, someone does something go for it on fourth down more often or bat his pitcher in the 8 spot and that guy is labelled, like, new age at best and crazy at worst. I like Harbaugh and very much want him to stay for at least a decade, but he is the classic risk averse coach. I actually think that is why they can't score in the red zone or put teams away. (Which feels so weird to me--guy was a QB in his playing days, but if I didn't know better I would think he was a RB or FB based on the way his offenses play.)

That 2010 offense scored 17

That 2010 offense scored 17 against State, 7 against Sciota A&M, and 14 in the bowl game. And they led the team to a 3-5 conference record.

I get what you're saying and, if anything, would upvote you if I could based on the general sentiment of your post--wishing for an offense capable of big plays.

But I want an offense that can take some serious blows, too. Denard is one of my favorite athletes that I've ever had the joy to watch in person, but Rich Rod's offenses are just not built to hang with the big boys long term--at some point injuries aren't bad luck or fluky, they're inevitable because the other guys are stronger and faster and bigger and keep hitting your smaller guys.

Maybe just semantics

But I'm not sure about the "Michigan is not very good this year" assessment. If the standard is obvious national championship contender, then yeah okay.

I remember that year Sciota A&M won it all with Tressel and they repeatedly came close to losses against okayish teams (didn't they almost lose to Cincinnati and Purdue?)

M makes sense to be ranked somewhere in the teens at the end of the year, I think, and this seems a ways off from being not very good. My student season ticket years were when Rich Rod was roaming and Tate Forcier was our great hope.

This team's offense is not very good. This team is good. Hoping next year's team is great.
