Looking for 3 - 4 tickets…

Looking for 3 - 4 tickets for the BIG Ten Championship on Saturday.  ewrestling4c (at) (gmail)

Thanks. Its for me, brother and dad. Haven't been able to make a game this year.

So you are saying to lay a…

So you are saying to lay a nice parlay on them all!

This was a really big deal…

This was a really big deal but wrestling can be a weird sport for people not in this to figure out.  I am diehard fan and will be there in 2 weeks a nationals in Detroit. With that being said, this is a big deal. First title in almost 50 years.  Many of the big talking heads in wrestling didn't give Michigan a chance but I thought they were in a great spot. However, I didn't see them winning some of the semifinal matches.

Penn State beat Michigan in a dual back in January 29 - 6.  That looks and is bad but some context needs to be looked at.  In a dual the scoring is:

Decision 3 team points - 0 - 7 pt difference in score

Major Decision 4 team points - 8 - 14 pt difference in score

Tech Fall 5 team points - Match stops as soon as there is a 15pt difference

Fall - 6 team points - Match stops immediately

Tournament scoring is based off placing. For instance, at 125lbs Michigan's Nick Suriano score 24pts by taking 1st and getting bonus points by scoring major decisions along the way.  In the dual he beat Drew Hildebrandt 3-0 scoring Michigan 3 team points. Drew in the tournament had a rough go and lost both of his 1st 2 matches and scored 0 pts.

That is a major difference.  I am super excited and Michigan did a fantastic job but in a dual, PSU will win more than 50% of the time and in a bigger tournament like the NCAA's it could be very interesting because you add in so many top level wrestlers from other conferences.  This should be a great tournament and I think Michigan (if they wrestle like they did this weekend) can be in the mix but Iowa and PSU will bring the heat.  We need some help from guys that are in other conferences to be some speed bumps to some of their guys.

Then take my analysis…

Then take my analysis. Either way it will be amazing. Projected line-ups came out and it looks like everyone is back for both line-ups that will be competing in March except Mattin for Michigan and Berge for PSU (well at least at 157).  I am not sure if Mattin won't end up being the guy when it is all said and done but this weekend will be a big test for him both tonight and Sunday.

I am sorry but I had to down…

I am sorry but I had to down vote for the pure reason that you typed "duals meet". It is a dual meet. Sorry as a HS coach, I just can't get over the poor use of verbiage around wrestling.  Now let's get to the main topic.

This match has the potential to be crazy.  However, there have been a few guys out for both teams. Nick Lee has been dealing with sickness (covid related is the rumor) and Berge may or may not wrestle, since he just got back to competition training.  For Michigan, Storr at 149 and Amine at 165 have been out for various injuries. I don't believe Michigan will hold anyone out. A lot of their guys are either grinders or need matches for qualification purposes for Nationals.  Most of them started wrestling in the 2nd semester only. There hasn't been a probable starter line-up posted and I don't think there will until that night.

Here is my breakdown by weight class:

125 - Suriano vs. Hildebrant - Hildebrant took 4th in a watered down weight class last year.  After watching Suriano against OSU last week, I think he will push hard for the major and get it. His gas tank is just incredible. The biggest issue is that Suriano is not great at turning people on top.

4-0 Mich

133 - Ragusin vs. RBY - RBY is a slicker version of McGee. However, Ragusin was pushing hard in that match and got turned to break it open. I see him being significantly more conservative to keep it close.  RBY by decision.

4-3 Mich

141- Micic vs. Lee (or back-up) - This match has the chance to be unbelievable.  If it is actually Lee wrestling, this will be a huge test to see where Micic is at up a weight. So far he has not looked as dominant as he has in the past.  Lee is an absolute monster with a crazy high pace.  If it is Lee (even though I am a huge homer) Lee will take this by decision. If it is any PSU back-up, I will go major but it could easily be a techfall.

4-6 PSU - I say Lee wrestles

149 - Storr/Mattin vs Bartlett - Bartlett was a big time blue chip recruit coming out of HS and has been good but not the instant AA or national title contender that some thought he might be.  I really liked what I saw from Mattin verse Sasso. I am going out on a limb and hope Mattin steps on. If it's Mattin, I am calling the upset. If it is Storr then I say Beau wins a very close one for PSU.

7-6 Mich - Mattin wrestles

157 - Lewan vs. Negron (Berge if he can get down this quickly) - I will say it is Negron. Either way I think Lewan wins a close one because well that is all Lewan does. Lewan has tools to open up his offense and be better but has yet to consistently show that. He is hard to predict wins for in big matches because of how close they all are but I am going to do it.

10 - 6 Mich

165 - Amine/(back-up) vs. Edsall/Berge - Berge wrestled 165 for them in their last match but I think we see him down sooner than later and it could be Friday.  I am not sure Amine is healthy. If he isn't, this BADDDD for Michigan. Pat Nolan is not a starter at 149 or 157 and he is up at least 1 weight class filling in here.  Amine wins it if he wrestles.

13-6 Mich - with Amine

10 - 11 - w/o Amine

174 - Massa vs. Starocci - Massa is a gamer and will battle like crazy but Starocci has a little too much in the toolbox.  They wrestled an extremely close match last week (going into OT).  I think this will be a similar outcome this year.

13 - 9 Mich - with Amine @ 165

10 - 14 - w/o Amine

184 - Amine vs. Brooks - Sometimes I think people forget how good Amine is. He has lost to very few individuals in folkstyle over the last few years. I think people saw last year when he was up at 197 (a HUGE bump up in weight) and think he has lost some folkstyle ability because he trains mostly in freestyle.  I am going a homer pick but one because Amine just is a winner. He suprises people all the time with how successful he is.

16 - 9 Mich - w/ Amine @165

13 - 14 - w/o Amine

197 - Brucki vs Dean - Immovable object vs. Indestructible force. I say Dean in an absolute slugfest but I think Brucki makes him earn every second of this match and no one wants to wrestle Brucki at nationals. He is an absolute tank and brings it for all 7 minutes.  Later in tournaments, wrestlers bodies will not want that pressure for 7 minutes.

16 - 9 - w/ Amine @165

13 - 17 - w/o Amine

HWT - Parris vs. Kerkvliet - Kerkvliet is very talented especially on his feet. He still struggles underneath bigger heavy weights. Parris needs big points and gets them. BOLD PREDICTION. Fall for Parris!!

22 - 9 w/ Amine

19 - 17 - w/o Amine (more likely 16 - 17 or 17 -17 and going to criteria)

This is a very maize and blue tinted prediction.  If you haven't watch a dual before. Tune in to this one!

My brother, dad, brother in…

My brother, dad, brother in-law and myself go to 1 away game a year. We were unable to go the past 2 years (Covid last year and many conflicts/issues this year). We are all free for Saturday. If anyone has 4 tickets they would like to sell at something less than 4 times face value. I would be a very grateful buyer.

I am no large insider but I…

I am no large insider but I am very close with a HS coach that travels all around the US with ties to colleges everywhere and deals with recruiting extensively.  He said U of M was one of the most disorganized and poor recruiting departments.  I believe this will ultimately be a good thing.

Quick rundown for everyone…

Quick rundown for everyone that is a die-hard MICHIGAN fan or fringe wrestling fan.

Caveat - Michigan is ranked #2 in the nation but without a full line-up that ranking doesn't really mean a whole lot.

125 - McHenry - Loss by Decision - McHenry is our 3rd string 125lber

(big time recruit coming out of HS but has not got big enough to compete on this level)

Future outlook - Ragusin or Medley will be the starter when Micic comes back

133 - Medley - Win by Decision - This is your Michigan man all the way - tough as nails and grinds

Future outlook  - Micic - Stud - National finalist and favorite to be in the finals if not win it

141 - Mattin - Loss by Decision - Had the lead for awhile but lost it late

Future outlook - Mattin is our best option and will be fine but not great for us here

149 - Storr - Loss by Decision - Storr is good but Sasso is a NC contender

Future outlook - Storr is an AA candidate

157 - Lewan - Won by decision - Always wrestles to the level of competitor

Future outlook - Lewan is an AA contender

165 - Amine - Loss by decision - Freshmen lose close matches at times. He will grow and learn

Future outlook - Just like his brother as an early stage this Amine has a chance to grow and get better as well

174 - Massa - Win by major - Dominated the entire match

Future outlook - Possible national finalist -AA candidate

184 - Embree - Loss by major - This one was UGLY - Never lived up to hype so far - injuries

Future outlook - Probably our only option at this point with Amine going up to 197 - not going to be                             good.

197 - Amine - Win by decision - Injured and just coming back

Future outlook - He will be fine and a possible finalist at 197lb or 184lbs

Hwt -  Parris - Win by Tech - Yes a Hwt tech fall!!

Future outlook - My goodness he is good and still might not win a national championship becuase there is a guy in Minnesota who may be the best Hwt. in the world.  Parris may be a top 5-10 Hwt worldwide.

The RTC Cup is going to be…

The RTC Cup is going to be amazing!! If you are a wrestling fan at all you need to tune in. Big time guys who have Olympic aspirations will be competing against each other.

I think the Bajarang addition is interesting for the month.  With Micic there (I heard he was training down in Arizona currently) you would have 2 top 20 guys in the world that could see each other within a few months at the Olympics training together.

Overall, the event should be amazing and I believe they are going through testing protocols to ensure no spread occurs. I am not 100% what they are but have heard from individuals closer to F?FLO and the RTCs that safety is #1 for them. There have been a few different events thus far with no spread but nothing to this level of competitors. I hope everyone is safe and healthy.

I don't really post on this…

I don't really post on this normally.  However, here is a breakdown from someone that follows wrestling extensively.

125: Jack Medley (RS SO) - Came out of nowhere to show significant promise!  Took

            - On the roster - Former #1 Kurt McHenry (FR) recruit in the nation but had/has to grow into                                               the weight class

133: Joey Silva (FR) - Hurt on and off - Placed 7th in the deepest weight class the BIG 10 has                                                     seen in a very long time.

            - On the roster - Stevan Micic - Olympic Redshirt Could be a national Champ next year

141: Cole Mattin (FR) - Placed 9th @ BIG 10s - Being the suprise starter over his brother Drew                                                     Mattin (maybe injured??) and Ben Freeman - Drew was 2-2 at the                                                     NCAA tourney last year 125lbs

149: Kannen Storr (RS JR) - Placed 4th - Possible AA candidate - Will be starter in 2020-21

157: Will Lewan (RS FR) - Placed 4th - Possible AA candidate - Will be starter in 2020-21 - He is a                                                    stud and will only get better - Possible big time AA down the road

165: Tyler Mesinger (RS JR) - Placed 7th after being seeded 12th and qualified for the NCAA                                                              tourney- However, he is at best the 3rd best 165lber on the roster

              - On the Roster - Logan Massa (multiple time AA), Cam Amine - Blue chip recruit (FR) -                                                           Massa will be the starter unless we see a big bump with Massa                                                           going up along with Cam's brother Myles and Jelani up to 197lb.

174: Max Maylor (RS FR) - DNP @ BIG 10S - Really struggled this year at this level

              -  On the Roster - Myles Amine - Will be one of the favorites to win the title next year

184: Jelani Embree (RS SO) - Medical Dft'd to 8th - Very up and down without ever breaking through - has the potential but just hasn't made the next step.  Can he next year?

197: Jackson Striggaw (RS SR) - Placed 7th BIG 10s - Average senior

               - On the Roster - Andrew Davison (RS SO) - Starter for next year Gage Garcia- FR next                                                     year

HWT: Mason Parris - Enough said - Possible Champ for the next 3 years

The team will honestly be fighting for a trophy next year if not higher depending on how individuals come back and improve.

I understand the rules of…

I understand the rules of giving 2 separate pairs but I would you consider a loving father of 2 who would also take his father for the 4?

I would love to be entered but couldn't take one son without the other being by my side.  Neither of the have been to a game yet.  I just moved back to Michigan and coach football for the high school I went to.

Amazing and thoughtful give away.

Good and bad information

As you can see from my points I don't post often and like I said in an earlier recruiting thread I have little inside insight.  But I have a little information on 2 different prospects.  The first is Logan who I don't think it would matter what any school did to presuade him he isn't going anywhere. He absolutley LOVES Wisconsin and wasn't very high on Michigan (regardless of balls).

However, Mazi another big time prospect who just took an official to PSU has Michigan in his top 3 with Bama and OSU.  PSU was very high but not in his top 3 so it will be interesting how it plays out. I have heard great things about his relationship with Mattison.

Well that is all good and

Well that is all good and well but GoBlue I mean no disrespect and have rarely posted because I honestly never have insider information or anything but I am telling you it is those 3 at the top right now.

If it changes then I will post it when I find out.

Top 3 Bama, PSU, and OSU

Top 3 Bama, PSU, and OSU

Can't say the source...

Mazi will not be going blue.  I don't believe Michigan is even in his top 3.

Man this duel will be a good

Man this duel will be a good one Sunday but we are the underdogs for sure.  The rankings might be close but we are only favored in 1 weight.  Need some c lo we ones to  our way.  Can the big man take down the reigning Olympic champ at her? Can Pantelo bring the real Pantelo to th  party like in Vegas? Can we get an upset at 133, 174, or 184? Coin is weighing 305 each week which means he could be 320 in a heart beat.

Watching this only confirms

Watching this only confirms my thoughts earlier.  I think we do too much.  We run way too many plays where our QB needs to find windows 12-15 yards down the field and make multiple reads.  Watch a lot of successful passing offenses at the Colllege level and they run a ton of double slants, and shorter routes and allow the defenses made up of college kids to make mistakes and miss tackles.

I mean on 3rd and 6 it is ok to run a slant or something like that and give our WR the opportunity to run for the extra yard or 2.  It just seems like with a less than stellar offensive line and watching the defensive alignments this type of passing game would be more beneficial for both our QB and OL success.

I just want to see us throw

I just want to see us throw some easy completions.  With all this talk about going deep and such.  those are difficult throws especially when we have very few WR's that can create seperation and an o-line that struggles to give ample time for a 5-step.  I watch countless hours of college football and going deep is not what this team needs.  They need to complete a few slants, hitches and run a boot leg or two to use O'korn's mobility.

To me at this point, Harbaugh is trying to run a too complicated and difficult Pro emphasized offense that is asking for throws down the sideline in tight windows, fades close to the goalline and such.  A short quick slant out of a stacked formation, combination of hitch fade to a slot side, anything with a quick read and an easy completion.

We need to get momentum going with this offense and get into a rhythm.

Tickets

I am looking to sell 4 tickets to the Penn State game. I am asking 200 a pop but would entertain an offer. They are not very good but I really don't see the market going down much.  They are not very good seats but to get 4 together even in the section on stubhub they are going for roughly 200 plus a lot of fees. Let me know if you are interested.

Pre-season Rankings

Flowrestling is a great source of all sorts of wrestling content...

http://www.flowrestling.org/ranking/3062-ohio-state-and-penn-state-neck…;

Michigan has always lacked a

Michigan has always lacked a top to bottom line-up.  Unfortunately for us the best teams we have had since the start of the 2000's (this year and in 2005) have been during times where another team is historically good.  I am not sure how we are going to end up team wise but we could have what it takes to bring home a trophy.

However, OSU has line-up with amazing talent top to bottom and PSU is running a line-up out there that has 5 returning CHAMPIONS!! and 3 others who could AA.  These recruiting classes are amazing and this is a huge get.  I coached against him 3 times his sophomore year and the rumors down here was he was a lock for Stanford.  So Michigan must have done some seriously good recruiting.

He is a great kid, amazing wrestler and could be a Massa type when it is all said and done.  Both Silva and Lewan are BLUE chip recruits and Michigan has never had these classes consistently.  Put another one in 2019 together and we may have a chance in 2020 of winning a title.

Can we catch a red-shirt for

Can we catch a red-shirt for Black still. I know this is discussed every year but I have had a few concussions in my life and can't remember he necessary time needed for it to count as a year.

I know any time played gets rid of a regular red-shirt.  I am talking about a medical one.

Just seems like this team is

Just seems like this team is limited with their ability to get the ball down field accuratley (whether due to lack of time, seperation, or qb's ability to get it there on time).  Honestly, we are a good enough team to beat everyone on the schedule including PSU.  However, we are not a better team at this point then PSU.

OSU is very similar to us but worse at getting the ball downfield but more explosive on the ground.  Wisconsin is us basically but maybe a little slower on defense.

I assume the worst we will be is 9-3 and the best if figuring out some redzone is undefeated Big Ten Champs.  I have to see a little more from PSU before I go a head and crown them as the best team in the Big Ten.  I still have the 49-10 beatdown in my head from last year.  Plus I will be out in happy valley for the game so I would hate for it us to catch a whooping.

Watching the games has made

Watching the games has made me want Darboah back.  We have not seen any true seperation on a consistent basis.  They have struggled to score in the red zone because of Speight's accuracy and haven't hit many big plays in the air because of the lack of seperation.

I was hoping to bring my 2

I was hoping to bring my 2 boys to the game and pay like 10$ a ticket but now its I am going to have to pay face value maybe (40$).  That stinks.

Away tailgates?

I know it is super far away but I am looking for anyone who is holding a tailgate at Penn State. Got 4 of us flying in from Chicago and willing to bring whatever to help out.

LAU and Stanford..... then

Team Race

These 2 will be super solid and Embree could be a stud as well.  Mattin may have to start depending on how well Assad comes back from his injury.  Next year's line-up probably will look like:

125: Mattin or Assad - Best case - LOW AA, Worst case - Qualifier

133: Micic - Best - Champ, Worst - Low AA

141: Sal Profaci (Assuming Freeman redshirts to get bigger) - Best Case - LOW AA/RD of 12

                                                                                                    Worst case - Qualifier

149: Possibly Pantaleo (but I heard he was going up) Best Case - 2nd, Worst - Low AA

Malik Amine :  Best Case - Rd of 12, worst - Not a qualifier

157: Pantaleo or Van Anrooy (incoming stud freshmen)

165: Massa - Champ or top 3

174: Amine - Best - High AA, Worst - Low AA/Rd 12 - Tough weight class, had a great tourney hopefully he continues to improve

184: Abounader -  Best - High AA, Worst Low AA/Rd 12 - I hate to put RD 12 on there but he hasn't AA yet

197: Beasley - Best - High AA , Worst - Low AA/Rd 12

Hwt:  Coon - Best 2nd, Worst 2nd

Just my 2 cents.  I have watched a lot of Michigan wrestling and sat with the families/cheering section at both the Big Tens and NCAA's the last few years.  Hope to see some Mgoblog love at those events.  Especially the Big tens because it is in East Lansing this year.

I have been to 15 of the last

I have been to 15 of the last 18 national championships and unfortunately we don't even have a punchers chance.  PSU returns 5 champs and possibly another champ at 125.  PSU has a team that may go down as the  ever.  I love Michigan dBm will be in their cheering section next March.  This is their st team since I have started going and they will be in a fight for the podium with Iowa, Okie State, and unfortunately OSU.  Message me if you plan on being in Cleveland.  I can do weekly updates during the season if people would want that.  I coached against the Silva kid last year at a tournament.  He is the real deal.

BOOOM!!! What a win... too

BOOOM!!! What a win... too bad my stream wouldn't work :(! Tomorrow I am not at work so get to watch em make the run to the title!!

Jump man still looks good on

Jump man still looks good on the front!

Not to try and hijack the

Not to try and hijack the thread but does anyone have tickets or a connection for the NCAA wrestling championships in the Michigan section???

I don't have enough points to start a new thread.

Some youg guys really stepped

Some youg guys really stepped up!! Big wins from little Amine and Sal really powered that win.  Youtsey is still getting some rust off and is always a gamer come nationals.  I still think the team is a few studs away (prolly a 125 and 141) for next year to be able to compete in the top 3 and possibliity of a championship.

However, it is exciting to see some of these young guys really wrestling well lately!!

Can't wait for the big tens.  If you can't make nationals I emphatically suggest going down to the Big tens.  It is awesome.

Kennedy and Kellen are good

Kennedy and Kellen are good in all but neither have made world teams or olympic teams (I understand not many have).  When you look at Oklahoma state you have multiple time NC and one of the biggest names in all the sport Jon Smith. Penn State and Iowa are what they are.  Ohio state is one that thrives because the state is rich in high school talent and now has an Olympic and a World Championship, unfortunatley much more than Michigan.  Even look at nebraska you got Burroughs and Green.

If you look at the senior freestyle rankings not many of the top guys train at CK.  There are tons of people going to ASU (Zeke Jones), PSU, Iowa, and Titan.

Pritzlaff was kind of young but even still he wasn't super well known and he was looking to take over a program so he was never going to stay.

A few names I would like to see brought in if they would and a lot of these guys won't especially if they are still training (like to stay where they were in college)

Gabe Dean - This is an easy #1 for me.  Michigan kid, huge success in college and will in my opinion be our representative shortly on the senior level.

Mark Perry - Steal him away from Illinois with more money

Those would be my top 2.

I love Michigan wrestling

I love Michigan wrestling maybe even more than football (wrestling coach here so don't shoot me) but I have to be honest I am dissapointed in their ability to recruit a full team.  I watch almost every duel, follow the recruiting and know the high school wrestling landscape better than most being in it every day.  Youth now a days is no excuse for not having success. There is freshmen winning national championships and being all-americans every year, you just have to recruit that top talent(i.e Massa).

The ability to consistently get the top level talent along with building depth is what Michigan lacks.  If you look at the top teams in the nation they have depth not only when it comes to talent at all 10 weight classes but back-ups/redshirts that can do serious damage at nationals.  If you look at the rankings    http://intermatwrestle.com/rankings/high_school   you will see a lot of the top teams having multiple people in the tops of weight classes.  When you take a look count the number of times you see Iowa, PSU, Nebraska,  and even now some ACC schools like North Carolina (big name coaches for these kids with Scott and Ramos).

With Bormet's connections to Illinois they should be getting kids all the time from there.  they have a great tradition of having AA's and national champions, even competing for a trophy but I have been to nationals every year since 2001 (Cael's senior year) but last year and they have never competed for the title because they don't have the horses.

I hope the reigns get completely turned over to Bormet in the near future with Joe taking and aministrative role.  Then bring in a big time young guy who the kids have seen have success recently and has a name that draws them to the greatest school in America.

If Ohio State can do it I know Michigan can, just need the right formula and talent.  Next year they will have....

125: Assad/Mattin (incoming freshmen)

133: Micic - NC contender

141: Profacio/Freeman (incoming freshmen from Walled Lake)

149: Pantaleo - Prolly 3rd - Just 2 guys in front he's never beat

157: Sutton/ Lan Van Anrooy (incoming freshmen)

165: Massa - NC contender

174: Amine - AA contender

184: Abounader - AA contender

197: Striggow/Davison (incoming freshmen)

HWT: Coon - NC Contender

That is 3 NC contenders but no locks and only 4 sure fire AA and 3 possibles.  Unfortunatley for us that leaves you with 7 AA and probably 3-4th place.  PSU could have 5 champs next year (125 suriano, 149 retherford, 157 nolf, 174 Hall, 184 Nickal)

Just tough to compete with that type of talent and development.
