No, he's definitely a weird…

No, he's definitely a weird dude. Look into his TB12 Method book. He does some very dumb dieting stuff and believes shit like drinking enough water means you don't need sunscreen. He's not that different than wacko celebs like Gweneth Paltrow.

I went through a similar…

I went through a similar process as you, even wrote a diary about it. COVID stamped down a big part of my sports fandom and it took a long while to bring it back. This basketball team made me care again. My dad is fully vaccinated and for the first time in over a year, I watched sports with him again. This was a special season for many reasons. I'm sad it had to end this way.

I think it's safe to plan…

I think it's safe to plan for that, though I still wouldn't go 100%-everything-is-normal capacity. Figure out a reasonable percentage, maybe do an age requirement since none of the current vaccines are for kids. You're still gonna need to require masks too. It can be done.

EDIT: lol at the downvotes. I'm in favor of fans this fall! Sorry for having a measured, responsible take on it.

A few people have mentioned…

A few people have mentioned depression, so just to clarify, this is only something I'm struggling with in regards to sports. I still enjoy watching sports, just not to the degree that I did before. And I still enjoy my other hobbies too. I appreciate the concern, though.

This is like telling someone…

This is like telling someone who wants to fly to "just do it." Do you really think I'm not trying? Would I have written this post if it was that easy? That's not helpful advice.

Before anyone comments, I…

Before anyone comments, I just want to say I don't want this to be some sort of political debate about whether they should be playing or not. Despite how you feel about sports happening right now, they are playing, and I want to be able to enjoy that.

See, this is what people…

See, this is what people keep failing to understand. You're both correct, and that's why this is so hard. There isn't a decision that won't have a negative outcome. It's a lose/lose situation.

I'm always reminded of when…

I'm always reminded of when the official account wished him a Happy Birthday during the coaching search and we all lost our minds. That was a fun time

Boo fucking hoo. I don't…

Boo fucking hoo. I don't want to hear the sob story for OSU or anyone else in the conference. So sorry you had to play with some precautions to keep people safe.

I guess I would have to say…

I guess I would have to say 2003. I know it was the 100th matchup and Chris Perry was awesome, but I more just remember that Michigan won, not the game itself.

2011 wasn't a very satisfying win for me. I had to listen to most of it on the radio and OSU wasn't that great that year. It was like "okay, cool, can this happen more often now?"

I wouldn't put it all on bad…

I wouldn't put it all on bad losses feeling like a normal thing. That is certainly part of it, but you also have to consider the pandemic in the room. We didn't even know if there would be a season at all. There's so much insane shit happening in the world and college football right now. Who even knows if the season will be played to completion. Just hard to let one game ruin your weekend right now.

Why are people acting like…

Why are people acting like everyone didn't agree to this? Nebraska is being a bunch of whiny babies. They wanted to play football and this is the situation the B1G created to make that happen. What exactly wasn't clear about a conference-only schedule?

Yes, this country is so…

Yes, this country is so extraordinary that we can't even band together against a faceless virus. The American attitude is "I won't do anything to help the greater good if I'm slightly inconvenienced."

I keep thinking about the…

I keep thinking about the baseball player who said we haven't earned sports. Nothing we have done makes me feel like we deserve this. If our country (or even just state) had really come together to beat this thing, maybe I'd feel different. But we've basically just given up after a half-hearted effort and we're trying to force things back to normal.

And that ignores all the other issues, like our priorities being completely out of whack. Football players get all these rapid tests, meanwhile, university employees can't get tested unless they have symptoms. Things are fucked up in so many different ways, but hey, football!

Mixed emotions on this. I…

Mixed emotions on this. I thought when Michigan football returned it would feel glorious. But after everything that has happened in the last month, after seeing what the games that have happened look like, knowing that we're in no better shape in this pandemic, it doesn't feel right.

Regardless, Go Blue.

Seeing the photos from FSU…

Seeing the photos from FSU over the weekend, they absolutely should not allow fans.

lol you're doing exactly…

lol you're doing exactly what I said in my comment. I can do it too. Every school around Notre Dame isn't playing football, so why doesn't ND care about player safety?

Literally no one knows if…

Literally no one knows if the decision was right or wrong, especially Brian Griese. People act like the fact that football still exists is this big indictment of the B1G. "Well, Pitt is playing, so why can't PSU?" Can also say "PSU isn't playing, so why is Pitt?" No one fucking knows. Everyone is just looking for evidence to support their own agenda.

It's astounding how we're 6…

It's astounding how we're 6 months into this and people still don't understand how the virus spreads.

The travel and interacting with people from other schools is literally the entire risk. Right now Michigan is able to keep things relatively controlled by practicing in their bubble. All of that goes out the door when you start playing games.

Of course, but it's not…

Of course, but it's not about doing what I enjoy more, it's about knowing what's more important.

I don't get the argument…

I don't get the argument that people will find "more important things in life" and not come back. You don't have to remove football from your life to appreciate the more important things. I'm a diehard fan, yet I would never miss a wedding or family party for a football game. You can have a healthy balance of both things.

The difficulty of a schedule…

The difficulty of a schedule has nothing to do with confidence. Having all the confidence in the world doesn't change how good your opponents are. Germany won because they were better than those other teams. I think we can all remember confident Michigan teams who got blasted by better opponents.

As a Lansing resident, that…

As a Lansing resident, that's a big "no thanks" from me

They only really work if…

They only really work if used perfectly. What ends up happening, though, is people use the key and then they don't wash their hands as much. Plus, copper is not immediately antimicrobial. It can take hours to kill germs on the surface. Copper also loses its antimicrobial properties if it's not regularly cleaned.

Really, it's much better to just wash your hands and carry hand sanitizer.

https://www.reviewgeek.com/42304/brass-touchless-door-openers-are-everywhere-now-but-do-they-actually-work/

But they wouldn't just be…

But they wouldn't just be contained to Schembechler Hall. Teams will be coming from out of state and Michigan will be traveling out of state. Also, your scenario is not an "either/or" choice. They will be socializing in groups all year and playing the sport. You're delusional if you think playing the season will somehow keep players from going to parties and stuff.

I'm a little confused about…

I'm a little confused about how having an opinion on whether the season will or will not happen has any effect on how this will all "play out."

It's all about having…

It's all about having realistic expectations. The odds are against a season happening and you're just setting yourself up for disappointment if you're clinging to every small hope.

You're right, no one has any idea what will happen. Either the season will happen or it won't. I just prefer to be ready for the worst-case scenario.

Can't compare pro leagues to…

Can't compare pro leagues to college. Those players are being paid and there's a lot less of them. It's a much smaller and more controlled operation. I think the NFL season will happen in some form, but I just can't see it for college.

This all just feels like…

This all just feels like deju vu to be honest. It's like the conference tournaments back in March. No one wanted to cancel. First, it was no fans allowed. Then things changed quickly and it got canceled, but not after everyone was already there. Feels like the same thing is gonna happen. They'll make changes but eventually things will get canceled. Again, it will be too late, after tons of possible infection points have already occurred. We learn nothing.

I hate the "real fan" trope…

I hate the "real fan" trope but if missing a season or two makes you stop being a fan I have to wonder what you were even a fan of in the first place. Was it the team or just having a reliable thing to watch on TV every fall?

Make up your mind, man. Did…

Make up your mind, man. Did you find new hobbies and a greater appreciation for life or is sports the only thing that matters? Very strange to see the self-appointed Wolverine "Devotee" so ready to drop his support. Are you a Michigan fan or not? I don't really care when sports return, I'll be there when they do.

I find myself thinking this…

I find myself thinking this same thing sometimes, but what people don't understand is if a vaccine is released to the public it will have already undergone tons of testing. That's why it can take so long to be ready. The public is not the testing ground. Trump can talk about a vaccine being ready soon all he wants, but those are just empty comments. He has nothing to do with it.

They've been practicing this…

They've been practicing this week without incident

What an ignorant thing to…

What an ignorant thing to say. You "hope" a quarter of Michigan's team gets a virus we don't even fully understand yet? We're not even sure getting it once makes people immune. I certainly hope as few players as possible get it.

I just don't see any way in…

I just don't see any way in which this works. We're already seeing a spike in cases where states have "reopened." What's gonna happen when college kids from all over the country start mingling together again? Everyone wants to will this thing away, but we're not even close to being through it.

And don't start with "college kids will get over it." The giant elephant in the room that everyone wants to ignore is the fact that we don't fully understand what this does to people who recover long term. I know people in their 20s who have "recovered" from COVID and still have lingering effects. This is not something anyone should feel okay with getting.

On Twitter he says he's more…

On Twitter he says he's more upset at Bill Martin than Lloyd and I guess I just don't see what they were supposed to do? It's bad luck to have a coach leave when you're there but that's just how it works. Lloyd couldn't wait until "his players" were all gone. And what was Martin supposed to do? Get a coach that Threet liked more? Find someone that fit a backup QB's scheme better? It was a crappy situation for Threet but I don't see how anyone is at fault for it. Just bad timing.

It's a strange dynamic. In…

It's a strange dynamic. In some ways, I care much more than I used to. I read sites like MGoBlog, I listen to podcasts, follow M people on Twitter, etc. But at the same time, the "lows" are not as low. A loss that would have been devastating and ruined my whole weekend before is now just a blip on the radar. My interest has never been higher, but I deal with it much better now.

I've worked from home for…

I've worked from home for close to 10 years now, but my kid has been home from daycare for about 6 weeks and my wife is working from home for the first time as well. Even though working from home isn't new to me, it's much different having everyone else home with me. Many more distractions and I can't just hole up in my home office all day.

I am confused. If this is an…

I am confused. If this is an official video for UM you shouldn't need to buy a license or get any permission. Just rip it from a YouTube video or something.

I decided not to get a class…

I decided not to get a class ring or varsity jacket and I've never regretted that decision. I have my graduation cap tassel and some sports awards from HS.

I'm not sure why more people…

I'm not sure why more people aren't talking about this. It seems like the biggest issue to me. Football is a brutal sport and it has a very long offseason. You're gonna suddenly go from 8 months between seasons to 3? Factor in the preseason training and it's basically no offseason at all.

I feel like there should be…

I feel like there should be something written about the pandemic and Michigan athletics. Talk to some of the athletes and coaches who had seasons cut short/canceled. It would be cool to have a "history lesson" to look back on.

Did people think a pandemic…

Did people think a pandemic wouldn't change our lives drastically? Every option sucks, man. Allow people to gather in large groups and more people will die. Keep things closed and many people lose jobs. There's no easy way out of this.

None of us ever thought…

None of us ever thought sports would get "canceled" like this, but it's a good reminder to never put all your eggs in one basket. We should all be using this time to discover new interests or rekindle old hobbies. Don't pin your happiness on things that are out of your control.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous…

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. We're living through something that is unprecedented in modern history and people can't even last a month in lockdown. The ironic thing is rushing back to "normal" will only drag it out longer. Complain all you want, the virus ain't going away any faster.

I thought it was pretty…

I thought it was pretty entertaining. Anyone who has played HORSE knows there will inevitably be those lulls where people are doing boring shots to keep control or everyone is missing their shots. The thing I really like about it is basically anyone can play. I'd love to see a HORSE tournament for All Star weekend or something. Put out a bunch of props. Get a mix of current players, old players, actors, kids, men, women, etc.

Bryan, your comment about…

Bryan, your comment about missing a baseball season you won't get back really hits home. When my son was born someone told me "you only get 18 summers with your kid." I've taken that to heart and I try to make every season as memorable as possible, especially summer. We've already had to miss some things that we do every year. Obviously, there are bigger things to worry about, but it's a bummer nonetheless.

Well, you'll get half of…

Well, you'll get half of that. The announcers for College Hoops 2K8 are Verne Lundquist and Bill Raftery.

I have been working from…

I have been working from home for close to 8 years and I work in an industry where most people do. Different things work for different people.

For me, it helps to treat the day as if I'm going to an office. I eat breakfast, take a shower, and get dressed before I start working. If you can, keep your work space separate from your regular living space. It can be hard to "leave" work when you work from home, so it's good to have a physical reminder that you have "clocked out."

With that in mind, don't sequester yourself to a room every day. Working from home has its advantages and you should enjoy them. I love to grab my laptop and work from my deck when the weather is nice.
