Vsporto top 5 offensive Count Down

Submitted by M Gulo Gulo on

V Sporto, well Wolverine Sports Radio (a Vsporto channel)  is counting down the top 5 offensive players for the 2015 team so far we have

5: Jehu Chesson

4: Shane Morris

Who do you think the top 3 will be?

Doesn't create much excitement when our "5th" and "4th" best offensive players are a Senior WR whose most memorable plays have been in run blocking, and a Junior QB whose most memorable plays include either concussions or interceptions, and who most believe will not be the starter.

So that's sad.  But I don't think it's as bad as it sounds.  I just think the guy making the list is a dope.

5 - Darboh

4 - Cole

3 - Glasgow

2- Butt

1 - Green/Isaac/Smith/Johnson (Tough to pick WHO it will be, but there's enough talent/competition for someone to emerge, and a good enough offensive line to expect good production)

It's sad that Jehu and Shane are on this list. I don't think they belong, but I can't think of too many players to replace them with. This team really lacks proven talent. However, I think we will see quite a few breakout players this year. So, there is that to look forward to.

Although it is difficult to argue your statement, and i do not currently have the brain power to even attempt to argue your statement and find a less talented offensive skill position team (ok, screw it, i will - Rich Rods first year - IMO definitely worse) - remember, the offensive line we have had the last 2/3 years has made our skill players percieve to be worse than they actually are.

If we had a typical Michigan offensive line, every single skill player would have produced, and looked, much better than they have.

I disagree.  Last year was.  I think the addition of Ruddock, Isaac, and possibly the emergence of some young WRs will help us.  We won't be amazing, but we won't be turrible either.  Also, the OL will help make these guys look better, even if they aren't better.

Ruddock should definitely be an upgrade.  The jury is still out on Isaac IMO.  I just think the loss of Funchess puts this year at a disadvantage, but I would be happy to be wrong.  Even if I am right we should be a more consistent offense given the OL maturation and hopefully better coaching.  I can just forsee a lot of 17-14 and 20-17 games.

Based solely on college production and projected gains based on those -

5. Darboh

4. Isaac

3. M. Cole

2. Butt

1. Ruddock

I think we should give our current players a chance to play for a competent coaching staff before we go and write them off as the worst group of skill players in Michigan history. There isn't a lot of flashy talent. However, there is a collection of gritty role players that can get the job done with the proper coaching and technique.

4. Darboh

3. Butt

2. Glasgow

1. Rudock

There are a lot of unknowns though.  A lot of players could click and be quite good: Kalis, Magnuson, Cole, Braden, Chesson, Canteen, Ways, Khalid Hill, one of Johnson/Isaac/Green.

I think the downside risk is small, with much more potential upside.  But in terms of what's proven, there's not much.

Well I whole-heartedly disagree with their start. My top would be:

1. Butt
2. M. Cole
3. Glasgow
4. Rudock
5. Darboh
6. Isaac
7.Smith
8. Kalis
9. B. Cole
10. Chesson

I know they're only doing 5. Jehu is really fast and loves to block which will get him some PT, but I don't see that translating to statistics (not that the linemen are accumulating stats, but you don't look to linemen when you need a big play or TD). Amara is going to lock down the number 1 spot, Butt will lead the team in catches...now we need a guy in the slot who can catch the ball and make plays after the catch. I think it's a toss up between B Cole and Freddy right now but I think the freshman wins that battle and has a good year for us (~400yds and 4 TD)

The most proven offensive weapon on our roster is Ruddock and he hasn't played one down for Michigan obviously. That there shows you how limited the offense will be until Jim gets more practices with them.

Seriously those guys are the two choices???

Id put Jake Butt, Freddy Canteen, Rudock and Ty Isaac at the top of my list.

OL...I expect Dawson, or some other unproven OL to have a breakout year finally.

Putting Jehu that high is kind of insane. The guy caught 14 balls last year for 154 yards...I know the QB situation was below average but to say this guy is in the top 5 sounds dumb to me. Here are mine:

5) Mason Cole

4) Darboh

3) De'Veon Smith

2) Butt

1) Rudock (I'd be shocked if Shane played much this year)

5. Darboh
4. Johnson
3. Glasgow
2. Butt
1. Rudock

I really hope a wide receiver steps up at some point. Maybe we will get to see why Drake Harris was so highly regarded, or why Brian Cole and Freddy Canteen garnered hype during various spring camps.

How in the world can they purport to be any sort of authority on Michigan sports when they believe that Shane Morris is going be our starter, let alone our 4th best offensive player?

I have no idea who/what VSporto is, but because of this, that is certainly going to stay that way.

You can really group everyone together here, outside of maybe Butt and Cole. Hard to put a list like this together when no one has shown an ability to drive results.

I know you can pin a lot of this on the prior coaching staff, but there has been close to zero results in any department for most any one of our current offensive players.

  1. Butt
  2. Rudock
  3. Cole or Glasgow
  4. Glasgow or Cole
  5. Darboh or Green or Drake - all have holes or limited production

Slim pickings.

Defense at least I can make a list and not shake my head

  1. Lewis
  2. Henry
  3. Peppers (downgraded on actual production not hope/hype)
  4. Bolden
  5. Lyons or Wilson or Morgan (all 3 of these are plug and play safe kind of players who won't knock your socks off but should be decent)

And I could list another 3 or so that could have breakout years ala Wormley Gedeon types.  On offense, just crossing fingers.
