U-M Indoor Track begins its second life

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

After the U-M Indoor Track Building closed at the end of last season after 44 years in operation and its time as a track facility has ended.

Due to the Schembechler Hall expansion, sports like Soccer, Lacrosse, Softball and Baseball lost their indoor facility in Oosterbaan Field House.

However, the old track building has been repurposed into an indoor practice facility. Here's a look at it from earlier today from the MLAX practice.

This is what the building looked like as recent as this past summer-

This is a photo of the 2,000-seat indoor track stadium that will open next Saturday on the south end of the athletic campus-

I'm glad the former indoor track building is being put to good use as a multi purpose practice facility. It's not fancy, but it will get the job done.

The downvotes are for WD being a total ahole.  People want to talk about negativity?  WD is that personified with all his "this board is a shitstorm" posts.  Not to mention tweeting other players.

AND getting into pissing contests with people from other schools WHO ACTUALLY WENT TO THAT school.

Simply stating fact.  No hate here at all; you're very confused.

I haven't tweeted other players.

I haven't posted pictures of my thank-you letters from the AD.

I haven't come on here to call the place a shitstorm.

I haven't come on here publicly expose any self-diagnosed mental and/or medical problems.

I haven't come here to say the place has gone up in smoke without me... that the board isn't the same without my contributions.

WD has.  And that's fact.  He needs to own his behavior.

If you Google Webster, Oxford, et al., you'll learn the definition of hate is:

"the feel intense or passionate dislike for (someone)."

"intense hostility and aversion usually deriving from fear, anger, or sense of injury: extreme dislike or disgust."

etc.

Please cite the part of my post when I communicated, ahem, "hate". This is not rhetorical request. I'll wait.

What I did do, is document behavior WD has already and frequently demonstrated here. That's HIS behavior NOT mine. Learn the difference.

If you want to be a WD-pologist, I'm not going to stop you. But I will correct you when you casually throw around loaded words in your speech of which you do not know the definition.

Maybe because he has single handedly made the board virtually unreadable over the past month, with endless sub accounts trolling and upvoting eachother?

It's no secret that I don't like him, but before this episode I had made my "peace" with his shenanigans, and constant need for attention. This crap has just gone way too far, and it's affecting the entire board now. How many of his accounts have the mods removed in the past month? A lot, and he just keeps making more. The whole Franklin Hatchet thing was just pathetic, and dude genuinely seems to enjoy doing this kind of thing. It's a cancer.

Cut it out.

It's just laughable, the arrogance of some people to think I sit on here all day. Priorities for me changed months ago.

I've got about 40 alibis of not being on this site when that nonsense was going on because I've been so busy with my amazing girlfriend and her family and all of the fun things we've been doing. I'm with her every day, so not a lot of computer time.

What's laughable is you thinking you're not part of the problem here.

Nobody is thinking you're on the site 24/7.  What people are commenting on is what you do here -- and your notions are not altruistic... you cannot cry out of one side of your mouth that people are trolling you or creating fake WD accounts and then out of the other side of your mouth state this site has gone "up in smoke" without you!!!

Your hyper-inflated ego is getting in the way of reality for you.  You forwarded an email.  That's all you did.  You haven't accomplished anything else.  For all your criticism of Brian, you've done jack shit over at the Blueprint as well.

I don't know about all that other stuff. I don't read it.  I guess I'm old fashinioned and would only downvote someone on the content of the actual post.. Not who they were in the past.

I guess I've offically moved into the 'get off my lawn' part of my life.

Because the old indoor building is no longer a track facility, the Ann Arbor Track Club has to practice at EMU. There will be no track for my kids this winter.

The new indoor track is a game changer for the program. This will be huge for recruiting, and already has, even though a recruit has yet to see the new place. I dont think people understand the disadvantage the program was at in the old building.

Here is a cool writeup that anyone who has an appreciation for discus and javelin would enjoy.

It really puts the new indoor track in a league of its own, especially for northern climates.

The old place was a dog and not befitting the University of Michigan. I hope the AA track club gets to practice at the new place.

Good to see WD's contributions to the Athletic Department being put to good use.

He's a donor ya know!!!

I get reusing the building but more parking would have been nice especially during baseball and softball games and compared to the rest of the athletic campus its kind of a steamy pile of feces

The impact this will have on the program cannot be overstated. And, as an alum of the program, we get to "test drive" the track later this month!
