Sources: Fisch to Mizzou (OC)
per the twitter
My sources can confirm that Jedd Fisch will be the next Offensive Coordinator at Mizzou

Definitely agree that he wouldn't take that role back at UM, but when should we expect a resolution (or confirmation of) to our offensive coaching staff assignments. Is it still considered likely or possible that either Drevno or Hamilton will not return? I'd assume we would find out shortly after the bowl game, but what are everyone's expectations?

Speculation is that there will be a lot of turnover now that the early signing period is done. It makes no sense to cut someone loose only to have him take those recruiting contacts to the next job. Yes, it's slimy but very few things about NCAA aren't anymore.

Still trying to decifer if leaving Michigan was a great career move for him. I guess going to a low level SEC school as a full fledged coordinator isnt a bad move. Just don't know if it's a great move.
December 20th, 2017 at 11:23 AM ^
Getting to be a full fledge OC where you get credit for everything seems to be a step up. Bummer for Fisch UCLA crashed and burned, but he had that one game against [Texas?] where they came back from a huge deficit using the TE.
December 20th, 2017 at 12:09 PM ^
I believe it was the Texas A&M game that led to the eventual firing of Sumlin.
December 20th, 2017 at 1:23 PM ^
If Lock comes back he's inheriting a pretty good offense. I think he's stepped into a good spot.

Well, that's some good shit, Jedd.
(Congrats to Coach Fisch - even though he left us, I never felt that he did anything other than be up front about his aspirations. Good to see the Harbaugh tree grow.)
December 20th, 2017 at 9:33 AM ^
But this isn't growing the coaching tree. It's a lateral move (at best) from UCLA OC to Mizzou OC. I guess one could argue SEC...

I think the Kelly hire was terrible for him because of their philosophies being disharmonic. Since the writing was on the wall (failure under Kelly or a firm handshake in the near term), why not take on a coordinator position that might get you some bona fides to be a HC?

If Harbaugh was going to "recognize[] Drevno's weaknesses" he would have done so by now. You must really think JH is slow.
December 20th, 2017 at 9:18 AM ^
I wouldn't expect him to spend any great deal of time there, maybe even just one season. If record-setting QB Drew Lock returns to Mizzou, that offense will be prolific. That could/should springboard Jedd to a head coaching position. I don't think he would have that chance if he stayed at UCLA because of the offense clearly being Chip Kelly's baby and the perception that he'd just be a figurehead OC.
December 20th, 2017 at 11:08 AM ^
Agreed. UCLA at least has a brand recognition. Missouri seems like a little less than a lateral move. Great conference, but not the best program.
December 20th, 2017 at 8:49 AM ^
That seems like a demotion to me? From Southern California and UCLA, to Missouri and, well, Missouri?
December 20th, 2017 at 9:07 AM ^
December 20th, 2017 at 9:08 AM ^
But...Missouri???
December 20th, 2017 at 9:48 AM ^
The previous OC at Missouri turned the opportunity into a head coaching job at UCF. Missouri averaged 39 points/game (#10 in the country) and was #7 in total offense. They were better than UCLA in both categories and play in a tougher conference.
December 20th, 2017 at 10:10 AM ^
That's awesome! But you still have to live in...MISSOURI!?!?!
December 20th, 2017 at 10:50 AM ^
Sure, it's a hillbilly state, but it has its moments. Columbia is a decent college town. Jed will get more for his money there. Have you shopped for real estate around UCLA lately?
December 20th, 2017 at 11:19 AM ^
I really doubt Jedd Fisch looked at the local real estate market when weighing his job options. Dude's coached for 8 different organizations in the last 10 years.
December 20th, 2017 at 11:24 AM ^
He has to go where the jobs are. It's not like he has a profession where you can work anywhere, like being a dentist or an evil clown.
December 20th, 2017 at 1:19 PM ^
some really good tacos in Columbia.
December 20th, 2017 at 10:46 AM ^
people will be all pumped up to hire him, because he did it in the SEC and many schools will consider that the ultimate litmus test.

I've got deep family roots at Missouri. My grandfather was a longtime physics prof there so my dad grew up in Columbia and eventually went to school at Mizzou. He met my mom while in school and my older sister went there as well. I spent many a pleasant (but fucking hot and humid) summer visit in Columbia, and I rooted for MIssouri football as early as I did Michigan football.
I know it's not likely to happen anytime soon but I'd love to have Missouri in the BIG some day. Much rather have them than Rutgers. Or even maybe PSU.
December 20th, 2017 at 10:08 AM ^
Especially PSU.
December 20th, 2017 at 10:10 AM ^
how much could hot and humid really affect you?
December 20th, 2017 at 10:36 AM ^
How do you think I got this way in the first place? Missouri summers are hell on earth.
December 20th, 2017 at 10:15 AM ^
I was begging everyone i could find (ok, only my cats) to have Missouri join the B1G.
Then they added fucking Rutgers and Mizzou wisely went $EC.
AFAIC there's always time to fix a past mistake. If the conference ever expands again (without kicking out Rutgers) I'd love to lure Missouri and maybe . . Virginia?
December 20th, 2017 at 10:30 AM ^
I had this conversation with a group of friends (OK, only my dog), but with a different conclusion.
OUT WITH
- Penn State, because they aided and abetted the rape of children and still are institutionally in denial mode.
- Rutgers, because ... Rutgers.
- Maryland, because of footprint and space. They did not really do anything wrong (and add to the picture in MBB), but they go because it's my dream.
IN WITH
- Texas, because tradition fits and academics are solid.
- Georgia Tech, because academics and tradition fit.
- Virginia, because academics fit and Charlottesville is awesome.
My hound agrees with me on all of this. We also hate Notre Dame - like playing them, but fuck their "independent except when we don't wanna be" schtick. They can bump UVa or GaTech if they go all-in.
December 20th, 2017 at 10:49 AM ^
December 20th, 2017 at 11:40 AM ^
On Texas, I (and my dog) are willing to overlook the distance, because Austin rocks (literally) and Texas is a blue-blood program. Maryland is fine, as in "yes dear, that dress looks fine on you" but is too far away given that they are anything but a blue-blood program.
As far as Notre Dame goes, I think you overplay the Catholic angle. First, BC and other Catholic schools don't play the "we're Catholic, we're special" angle. Second, an ex-seminarian friend calls Notre Dame the "Disneyland of American Catholicism". He's an ND grad twice-over, and still laughs at their culture from the religious side.
We have no quarrel on the PSU front. I may have underemphasized it, but the heart of the "aiding and abetting" is worse even than what you wrote. They didn't just turn a blind eye, but by giving Sandusky the keys to PSU facilities, they actually helped him groom and rape children. I grieve first for the victims, next for the self-aware faculty, students, and fans who are rightly horrified not only by Sandusky's crimes but PSU's role in them.
And the Paternos and other JoePalogists(TM)? Fuck each and every one of them that is still lionizing JoePa.
December 20th, 2017 at 10:50 AM ^
expand the footprint of the B1G. I would rather see UNC added over a Georgia Tech. Would hate to play them in football every year because ot that damn triple option. Also UNC would add another great BB program to the conference. They are also decent in baseball and Softball.
December 20th, 2017 at 11:38 AM ^
My dog hates your idea. She also hates skateboards, and thinks you probably were riding one when you wrote this. She also hates vacuum cleaners, but can't really tie that to you. I'll put it this way - her eyebrow is cocked your way.
(UNC is a bit tarnished in my book because they're so damned corrupt on the "student-athlete" front. GaTech is legit in that respect, as is UVa.)
December 20th, 2017 at 11:39 AM ^
I'd have agreed with you a few years ago before all the academic scandals at NC. That tarnished their reputation and we already have one weird academic school (Nebraska)
December 20th, 2017 at 11:41 AM ^
I used to feel that way about triple option teams too, but have more confidence since Harbaugh showed up. We don't seem to get burned by option concepts or trick plays as much.
December 20th, 2017 at 12:31 PM ^
under future coaches? It makes sense for the academies, but GT is one of the top recruiting areas in the country. They should be able to recruit for any system and their offense puts a low ceiling on their recruiting. It can even hurt their recruiting on defense as good players usually like to join highly ranked classes.
December 20th, 2017 at 11:39 AM ^
If there is another round of expansion, it will involve poaching schools from the Big XII. I could easily seeing us take one and Missouri, with the SEC picking up the Oklahoma schools plus one more.
December 20th, 2017 at 2:18 PM ^
As I recall Missouri wanted to join the B1G but Delaney slow-played them for Nebraska instead, so they ended up joining the SEC.
