So what are our rooting interests for Monday?

Submitted by West German Judge on
Do we root for the conference? Do we root for the team that beat us? Do we root for Ohio State because the rivalry is better with both teams at full strength? Or Fuck the Buckeyes? What's the company line, here?

I cheered for Ohio State to beat Alabama because the myth of SEC "supremacy" needed to be squashed.  If I was 100% convinced that it was better for the Big Ten, I would probably cheer for Ohio State.  My heart is leaning toward Oregon right now, but I don't think I'll know until I have a visceral reaction to a play once the game has started.

One thing I do know, though: if it was Sparty, I would cheer against them because of their history of dirty play, trash talking, and Dantonio's true hatred of all things Maize and Blue.

I think you might want to qualify that statement a little. I'm betting that, like me, you weren't so much cheering for OSU to win as you were cheering for Alabama to lose. There's a big difference there.

I was cheering for Alabama to win (OSU to lose actually), but I was not that upset when Alabama lost.  Like everyone else, I'd had enough of the SEC rubbed in my face.

There is no ambiguity with Oregon.  I don't really hate them.  They are fun to watch, they brought innovation to college football at a time when it needed it.  When RichRod was hired, they were our goal-state role model.  The Nike/uniforms thing is more silliness than it is truly annoying.  And their conference has been picked on as much as ours.

I will have no problem rooting for Oregon over Ohio State.  And if I hear a bunch of "PAC 12!!" cheers after they win, I can live with that.

I would love them to lose at everything.

I don't want them to have a good record when they play us; their record makes no difference to me, provided we stomp them.

Screw the rest of the conference. The only team that I want to win is us.

When OSU plays Sparty, the only thing I root for is for a huge meteor to hit the field. The only happiness I get from watching them play is watching one of them lose. There is no joy in one of them winnning.

Well seeing as I'm going to be watching the game with Brian, Seth, John U Bacon and others here in Cleveland next Monday night I'm going to root for whoever they root for.

This should be interesting as hell.  100 Michigan fans all dressed in Michigan gear invading an Ohio sports bar to watch the National Championship game involving Ohio State.

My cousin works for Memphis; I'm hoping to travel and catch a game with him next year, but I won't buy Memphis gear just to go to a game. I'll wear my M gear and I'll bet you a dollar that I hear at least 2 random "Go Blue"s.

Ok, picture the reverse now - picture 100+ buckeye fans in a bar in Michigan rooting FOR Michigan!

If you cannot picture it - and I KNOW you can't - then you have your answer who to root for!

I was unfortunately in a rabid buckeye bar in SF watching the Horror - 30+ tvs tuned to ohio crushing Youngstown, 1 tuned to Mich-Appy...eventually one-by-one-by-one the tvs turned over to our game, and they all rooted louder for Appy then they'll be rooting for ohio on Monday night!!!

There is NO question who to root AGAINST - not if you'd been in that bar that day!

Go! Ducks! Go!

Fight! Ducks! Fight!

I have no desire to see Ohio St. win the title.  Anyone thinking this would change the national narrative on the Big Ten in any way whatsoever is kidding themselves.

Getting a Big Ten team to the final and a victory over a SEC school should be accomplishment enough for the conference. Also, I think possibly Alabama was overrated, still good, just not the greatest of past Alabama teams.
