The Snowflake Thread: Coaching

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

This one could be exciting....

Here is the thread to discuss in-game coaching decisions, hopefully blunting the number of "Fire Hoke" threads, because yeah, we get it, I think.

if Urban and his staff were coaching Michigan, Michigan would have won.

BTW, our defense is good until the game is on the line. This has happened in several games and though I believe Mattison is a good defensive coach it probably is time for him to consider retirement.

Coach Hoke, I appreciate your commitment to helping 115 kids grow into men, and your commitment to graduating your players. But you're just not a coach for this level. Wish you the best.

I'll just be glad when the nightmare is over. That means this entire staff gone, and a proven winner of a coach brought in and given the time and means to fix this mess.

I know it was a 3 score game. 4 min left, we ran the playclock 25+ 3 straight plays. Then we went up tempo inside of 2 minutes. What's the fucking point? They wasted 2 minutes and start running up-tempo. Just thankful we won't be seeing his crotch grabs anymore(lol).

So when was the last time had a moderately successful 2nd half?  What the hell goes on at halftime?  I'm certainly not going to miss this once this entire staff is canned

We were playing loose, looked good, even I daresay having fun???

Then the 2nd half started (well along with the prevent at the end of the 1st). Looked confused, nervous, timid, conservative, out of synch. The football we have come to know under Hoke.

Why oh why no more passes to Funchess, who looked interested, until it was too late?

...that Greg Mattison won't be back. I know he's been lauded here, but he's an overrated coordinator. His defense is the least clutch I have seen. All year when they've needed a big stop they don't get it and mostly because of the called D. I'm thankful for the foundation that he built but like 97 it will take someone else to make them elite.

Coaching was poor.  At least this was the last time Hoke will be on the sidelines for Michigan.  I wish him plenty of success during the rest of his career in the MAC.

Now: Hire Harbaugh.

1.  UM played well today.  The coaches had good plans, and it was generally executed.  OSU's players made some plays (the 4th and 1 play not withstanding, ugh, how can 4-5 guys all key on their 2nd or 3rd likely option on that play.)

2.  It's over. Time to sit back and see when they do it (Monday), and who they bring in.  Not a time to gloat, not a time to complain.

at the end of the game was embarrassing.  Very disappointed in the end of the game as it was a winnable game and the defense didn't seem to perform very well.

The lack of awareness in the 4th quarter with 6 minutes left, down 7 and an inexperienced QB is shocking. Stayed in our base defense even though there was no way Urban was throwing the ball further than a swing pass. Our safeties were 20 yds deep, corners 10 and our linebackers were scraping to stop outside runs. It is amazing that we didn't blitz once after Barrett left.

Hoked again by bad schemes and execution at critical times. On the bright side we get to have a new coach so I am just giddy right now! Time to celebrate!

Well, let's see...

Our two chief rivals are ranked in the top 10 with OSU having a shot at both the Big Ten champiosnhip as well as the national championship by sneaking into the playoffs.

Our former coach, who a lot of dumb people sabotaged and ran out of town, has his team playing for the PAC-12 championship, and they will most certainly be in the top 10 next week with an outside shot at sneaking into the playoffs and competing for a national championship.

I'd say the best thing about the coaches is that we will have all new ones very soon.

Mattison showed us today how overrated his defense has been. Every time we tie a game or take a lead, they always fall apart. Oh and Roy Manning sucks at coaching defensive backs.

Story of Hoke against Urban Meyer:

- In their last drive of the first half in each of the last three games, we have allowed OSU to score. A FG in 2012, and a TD each of the last two games. We were also the previous team to score, which means we had some momentum. And we blew it each time.

- In the third quarter of these three games, we have been outscored 34-7. That touchdown came today. We failed to make adjustments or just made the wrong ones.

In each of these games, I think it's obvious we played hard and we pulled some tricks out. But our players just weren't put in the best position to win the game by the coaches.

I don't understand why so many people are convinced Hoke will get fired.  You think he should be fired and I think he should be fired.  It seems like the only move that makes sense.  But how many things has Michigan done in the last bunch of years that make sense when it comes to football?  I just don't agree that the powers that be at Michigan will necessarily do what the rest of us think is the obvious, sensible move.  There are no guarantees.

This is not a "We should have kept RR" post, but I can't help but feel like the final embarrassment of the Hoke Era is going to be Arizona winding up against OSU or MSU in the bowl and Rodriguez kicking their ass and making it look easy.
