SIAP: WS3 Official Visit to Wyoming
If this was already discussed Thursday or Friday I just flat out missed it. Anyway, Speight took an official visit to Wyoming this week. He took in one of their practices and talked to their staff for a couple of days. I haven't heard anything since, but that does not sound like a QB that is returning to Michigan. Missing our spring practice and attending others should be enough evidence to indicate he won't return. My initial opinion after Harbaugh's interview remains the same. It was just another awkward moment for Jim when answering questions. He is a tough interview. One other person close to it has said the same thing, "it was just Jim being Jim." Knowing how quickly things get posted here, I could have missed it, so delete if needed.
I've been to Laramie. I can only imagine how badly Speight must want to start...anywhere...if he is seriously considering transfering to Wyoming.
<shudder />

is about to put out the #1 draft pick, so that might help.
A) It's one year.
B) You're close enough to the Rockies to be within easy driving distance.
C) Wyoming's coach helped get Carson Wentz to the NFL.
I admit Laramie sucks, but let's not pretend he's being asked to go to a monastery.
as you are one of a few insiders that bring us behind the curtain information.
Secondly, if you were to make a redundant post I'm quite confident that it would contain info not known by someone posting from an mlive, detnews, landof10, etc. type of article.
Thirdly, this is new and much appreciated info.
Thanks for all of your contributions.
No doubt there will another post today with news of Speight visitng Wyoming.
Speight was good for us. Wishing him the best of look moving forward.
Wyoming sounds like the worst place on earth.
You should catch a football game in East Lansing one day.
Is East Landfill is not the end of the world...but you can see it from there.
Columbus/East Landfill.
Columbus is actually a really nice city. Too bad Ohio State is located there........
If you like living in a place that feels like one big suburban area and if you love malls and chain restaurants. I get why people like it, but there is not much character there.
That is what I thought when I finally was dragged to C-Bus a few years back. And, I grew up in that god forsaken state — in Toledo. It’s not Cinci.
try heading downtown and the short north, German village areas for good non chain food. yes, the suburbs are typical suburbs, but Columbus is a nice city.
Yes. It makes sense that KFC, Taco Bell, et al. do their testing in the area.

Cbus is a new -- and very suburbanish -- city. Very unlike Cleveland and Cinci ...

And if you like smells...bad ones.
I live 2 hours from Columbus,Steubenville Ohio. Pickerington n a few parts of the North side may be nice but Columbus is shit incredibly dirty, and an engineering disaster imo. No cool looking buildings and it smells so weird there
I stopped reading at steubenville bro.

Columbus and nice city in the same sentence.
blows sky-high while you're visiting. Otherwise, a beautiful place to spend a little time vacationing (or in Speight's case, playing football).
mountains, beauty, great hunting and fishing, not crowded. would definitely consider living there if northern michigan didn't exist.
as a slight 'cool story bro' comment, that was one of the schools that recruited my oldest brother to play ball and he took an official visit out there. brought me back a stetson cowboy hat that i still have. that had to be in about 1972.
I have been out o Wyoming too. Wide open space. I need to check off 3 more states and I will have seen them all.
in wyoming back in the day. we had an epic trip and i even wrote an article about it years later. if you like space, wyoming is a good place. laramie is at about 7,000 feet, too. i always thought that would be a signif advantage in conditioning for the cowboys when they play home games. takes a bit to get used to elevation like that. hunting in the mountains can be a lot like exercise.
that hat i mentioned is in the basement. its seen better days, but it is part of my own family lore now as the kids have used it many times in their playing, putting on plays for mgowife and i, and other stuff.
I did my first fly fishing in Wyoming too! Then a couple times back in Michigan on the Pere Marquette, but I'm more of a boat guy at the end of the day.
jk.
what river(s) did you fish out there? i took my group to a place i knew they'd catch fish - got to get them hooked, so to speak, before taking them to more difficult and technically challenging places. it worked.

You’re one of the most interesting posters on the board, man. You ever do a Dos Equid commercial? I believe we did the Lamar river and Slough creek? Not successful in catching fish but standing in a river in Yellowstone is a successful day in and of itself.

in and of itself."
Few if any sentences more true have ever been written and/or spoken.

is a whole lot of wonderful.
and i'm only 'interesting' if that word means 'jerk' or deeply ADD or something like that.

In Muskegon?
March 31st, 2018 at 12:50 PM ^
Around Baldwin, MI, which is kind of equidistant from Ludington and Big Rapids, where Ferris State is. I don't think the Pere Marquette goes through Muskegon, the mouth of the river is at Lake Michigan near Ludington.

Was he a bad homicide investigator, or are you posting from inside prison?

dogged and determined, honest. ex-marine sgt who also taught self defense at the police academy. think of the marlboro man, but with a gun and without the cigs. he would most definitely qualify as a 'dude' under the don brown system of classifying people.

Anytime I hear about fly fishing I think of the film A River Runs Through it starring Brad Pitt. Really underrated movie.
That's pretty good, you're a little farther along than I am. Where haven't you been, umbig11?
I have a plan for Montana soon, but not the Dakotas.
if you could, drive to Montana, pass through each.
Yep, super easy way to get all three off the list, BUT the states start to get real big out West, this isn't the quick jaunt through Indiana on the way to Chicago.
Go check out the Black Hills man
Oh those are three “must sees”...well at least MT and SD. Badlands in SD is still my favorite National Park, it blew my mind.
March 31st, 2018 at 10:14 AM ^
I've not been there, so my question to you is what makes it so special? that's a park one doesn't hear too much about, so forgive my ignorance please. genuinely interested for your input

Part of it may be that it was really my first western national park that I went to, but the rock formations just blew me away. It’s kind of right on the edge between prairie country and where it starts to get into the Rockies and it’s just these mesmerizing formations and landscapes. You can explore a good deal, you hear the coyotes at night, idk I just had a great time there. Yellowstone, Teton, and Grand Canyon are all great too, though the Grand Canyon is almost too big to really take in. It’s hard to conceptualize even when it’s in front of you.

I hear coyotes at night right here in NW suburban Chicago. They're adaptable suckers for sure. However, I expect our rock formations are a tad less impressive than The Badlands. Unless you're into limestone quarries.

Badlands National Park is definitely beautiful. The falls in Sioux Falls are quite pretty, although nothing compared to, say, the Cascades. And the Corn Palace is its own amazing piece of kitsch -- just to give you something to do for the hundreds of miles until you get to Badlands. :)
The Black Hills of South Dakota are beautiful, though. There's really not a bad route -- well, except the freeway :) -- but I like US 16A southeast of Mount Rushmore. There are a couple of pulloffs where you can see the monument, but there's also the feeling of winding around the top of the world that you just can't get in Michigan.
There's little in North Dakota except shale -- which means rapid growth and a lot more crime than you'd expect. However, in the far western part of the state, out near Teddy Roosevelt National Park, it's actually quite pretty. You can definitely combine this with South Dakota, although I'd try to do North Dakota first because I found South Dakota better.
I feel bad for Wilton Speight. I think he misread the market for his services and made a decision that he may now be starting to regret. He led this team within inches of a Big Ten title game and likely playoff berth, and then he basically fell off of a cliff. I wonder if he's traumatized by the offensive line play. He seemed to have lost confidence even before the Purdue game. Best of luck to the young man.
You can't follow the trail of the Lewis and Clark Expedition without going through ND.

I moved to Bozeman, MT from Saginaw, MI 12 years ago, it was the best decision I've ever made. If you find yourself around the Bozeman area when you make it to Montana I'd love to show you around or at least put down a couple whiskeys with you umbig11! Thanks for all of your content and insider insight into the program, we all really appreciate it!

Driven through them all a few times. Beautiful country, not many people. Which I guess can be cool if you are into that sort of thing. Which, I am. That settles it, moving to Montana ASAP

I currently live in Rapid City, SD (edge of the Black Hills near the Badlands) and would be more than willing to provide information to help you on your trip. I read the blog all the time and appreciate the information you bring to the board. I didn’t have an account until I saw this topic and felt it was only fitting that I try and provide any needed assistance.
Definitely go see the black hills and I recommend seeing Sturgis during the motorcycle rallies.
Sounds like Jim was giving WS the time to figure this thing out, and I applaud him for doing so.
Harbaugh was being polite. There isn't a scholarship available for Speight anymore. I'm sure the team would welcome him as a walk-on but that's the only way he'll be back.
