This is sort of interesting from a speculative point of view. It's not like we can all talk basketball wins. Just an aside, but you sure post a lot of threads, like a certain other individual whose name began with a K and ended with a lot of numbers, or some guy named Nick Saban...just saying.
Anyway. I take Grimes, Murphy, Furman, Hankins, Ash...that is all.

I think outside of your first four, you're dreaming.

I just think his percentages are too high for the later part of his list. I hope I'm wrong. We'll see in a few weeks.
December 11th, 2009 at 9:34 AM ^
Deuce I think we have a legit shot, more than 50/50 with Ash I would say that his commitment is in our favor.

Most recruits give vague answers to specific queries of their intentions unintentionally. Hell, most of them simply don't know. I am content with the above stated ratio as long as a high CI is attached to it. CI being confidence interval, of course. I mean, if you know about stats; if you don't, CI represents the reliability of an estimate. I think I tend to ramble...
December 10th, 2009 at 11:40 PM ^
I think we'll see Grimes, Murphy, Furman, Hankins, and Ash.
The weird part to me is that the coaching staff is pushing hard for others, which leads me to believe they know/think there will be defections from this class. Whether they're nudged a long, grades, or whatever, I'm not sure.
I have to think if Drake and Kinard aren't qualified soon, they might be on the outside looking in, if other kids that are qualified want their spot. Whether they can get kids to commit before signing day will be the question.
December 10th, 2009 at 11:56 PM ^
much about drake, or "drank" as you call him, but i would really like to see kinard get in. we need more LBs, IME. 3 star or not i want to see as many defensive recruits as we can get.
December 10th, 2009 at 11:58 PM ^
Ha, good catch, sorry bout that.
Yeah, I'm not saying I don't want them, just saying it's hard to risk a spot for someone who might not qualify. If they can find a LB that could fill his spot, and is qualified, they might let that person fill it.
December 11th, 2009 at 1:02 AM ^
sorry for asking cause i knows it has been speculated so many times before, but do you see jawone snow gettting an offer if rr and company are hurrying to get another LB commit? this is assuming that furman does pick us and that kinnard doesnt qualify fast enough.
i know about ty cornelius though i dont think we have much of a shot with him or thornton although thornton has said that he would like to make a visit
December 11th, 2009 at 2:43 AM ^
i don't forsee UM offering snow, i suppose anything's possible but it's extremely doubtful at this point.

Grimes-50.1%
Murphy-50.1%
Furman-50.1%
December 10th, 2009 at 11:50 PM ^
How can you say only 50.1% on Grimes and Murphy? It is known that they are basically silent commits.
December 10th, 2009 at 11:54 PM ^
lol... 50.1%=100%. It's Tom Beaver's code.

Will people please, for the love of Jeebus T.** Christ, stop saying "we don't want this kid?"
I know that some recruits are more likely to be studs than others, and some are more likely to ride the pine or transfer or whatever. I get it. But if you missed the Carvin Johnson thread, please give it a read:
http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/carvin-johnson-update
Some guy we aren't 'high on,' but who the coaching staff wants, are reading the crap we post (obviously not just from this board, but this is the gold standard for Michigan blogs), and are affected by it.
**Short for 'Tapdancing'
December 11th, 2009 at 12:12 AM ^
I've read that he tried to commit and we rejected the verbal. No offense to him, I think that he's an absolutely fabulous player. If that info is true, the coaching staff doesn't think the same way.
In addition, we now have 3 safeties in this class. I think the staff is going for Parker or bust.
As a poster, I try to stay objective. Would it be wrong for me to say that the coaching staff didn't want Travis Williams? If a quarterback tried to commit right now and the coaching staff rejected his verbal, would it be wrong for me to say that the coaching staff wouldn't want him?
December 11th, 2009 at 12:20 AM ^
thats pretty big news to be such a secret. care to let us know a little bit more about the source?
December 11th, 2009 at 12:21 AM ^
What you said really wasn't even that bad, and might make some sense given the way the recruiting cycle is going.
But the board JUST had a come-to-jesus meeting yesterday about not giving reasons for recruits to think Michigan doesn't want them.
(plus I'm cranky with law finals...)
December 11th, 2009 at 9:49 AM ^
Do you have a link for that nonsense - "I've read that he tried to commit and we rejected the verbal" because if you don't...well I'll try not to swear again.
December 11th, 2009 at 10:03 AM ^
I can tell you 100% he did not try to commit, and we would not reject the commit.
December 11th, 2009 at 10:56 AM ^

December 11th, 2009 at 12:07 AM ^
Michigan actually is very much interested in Rashad Knight. He's rescheduling his official visit for January.
December 11th, 2009 at 9:40 AM ^
when a recruit comes on a official after the football season. I think when the season is going on the coaches are preparing for the game, and do not have as much time with the recruits. Now with the season being over the coaches can put the full court press on. Spend as much time with the recruit as possible.
December 11th, 2009 at 8:29 AM ^
We would never want a 4* safety. Why would we want one of those? I think someone really is high.....only it's not who you think.
December 11th, 2009 at 12:02 AM ^
I've read he is southern minded, but he could contribute right away on D. Has there been word on him?
December 11th, 2009 at 9:08 AM ^
This has been talked abouted. It primarily involves the difficulty of getting Juco credits to transfer to U of M.
December 11th, 2009 at 12:07 AM ^
But I think your odds give us like 8 additional recruits.
December 11th, 2009 at 12:46 AM ^

Edit: Oh, I see now. The percentages he gave... My bad...

I can give you an explanation of Hobbes' view of the natural world before th eimplementation of government... but I don't have what the real world call "employable skills."
December 11th, 2009 at 11:16 AM ^
would edify the Mgoblog community. In moderation, of course.
I think a ratio of one of these for every 12 "Any news on the countable hours investigation?" threads would be agreeable to most. (Or you may get negged to Kingdom Come--could go either way).
Still, it would provide a nice balance to all of the mathletes/engineers/chart crafting-wunderkind on this blog. I love those guys, but if you take out all the salary and benefits stuff, "employable skills" are way overrated.
Whatever you decide, don't forget the OT. Or, here's an idea that the little devil me on my right shoulder is whispering ... maybe exclude the OT--that way it would be really ironic in a way that's not ironic at all, you see?

Dorsey isn't coming here.
December 11th, 2009 at 5:33 PM ^
Terrence Cody was able to go to Alabama from MGCCC, is there an issue with Dorsey? Do you know specifics?
Is he just falling off the recruiting radar?
December 11th, 2009 at 5:47 PM ^
Using Alabama as a comparison for Michigan probably isn't a good idea. Alabama is coached by Nick Saban, which should tell you all you need to know.
Anyway, Dorsey is probably going to stay down south, and that's what you should expect from most kids in the deep south. It's notoriously difficult to transfer into Michigan for JUCO recruits. Dorsey's from Mississippi. I think he'll probably end up at Ole Miss, which takes transfer kids all the time. But no, he's not falling off the radar.
December 14th, 2009 at 3:56 PM ^
Wayne Dorsey did, in fact, commit to Ole Miss.
December 11th, 2009 at 8:29 AM ^
If Jewone Snow gets offered, it would probably be as a defensive end. And if the coaches think they're getting Ash and Murphy, there's really no point in offering another DE. He's not the type of middle linebacker they like. I think Steve Mehrer is more likely to get offered, but that might depend on if Kinard qualifies or not.
December 11th, 2009 at 10:05 AM ^
I actually talked to Steve Mehrer the other day. He said he's still waiting to see what happens, if he's going to get the offer.
He also said he wouldn't be opposed to greyshirting, if that option was given to him. He'd have to talk it over with his dad, but it might be an option if they wanted him to.
December 11th, 2009 at 8:45 AM ^
Minor quibble, but you don't know what "over/under" is, do you? These are odds. I can't imagine how you would set an "over/under" on whether a player will come to Michigan. Maybe the number of players that will come to Michigan?
December 11th, 2009 at 8:47 AM ^
I am starting to like our class a lot on the defensive side of the ball, especially if we get some of the guys we're discussing. But are there any OL prospects, even sleepers, that we could sign as the 28th guy?
My fear is that we aren't paying attention to it now but it could burn us later. We only took 3 last year and 1 this year. That sounds a lot like what happened when Carr ruined the DB recruiting for two bad classes in three years. I would like to have another body at OL in this class - even if they are a hard working, smart, undersized, low rated recruit.
