Pick your surprise(s): Defense and ST

Submitted by Ron Utah on

Brian's preview content is probably the best comprehensive coverage of Michigan football out there.  Still, every year there are some surprises on the depth chart and, with only two days until football starts, now is the time to wow everyone with your predictions.  Whom do you think will start that's not listed here?  Who will be a surprise contributor?  Click here to see the guesses on offense.

Here is Brian's prediction for the defense and ST:

  • SDE: Rashan Gary
  • NT: Bryan Mone
  • 3T: Maurice Hurst
  • WDE: Chase Winovich
  • VIPER(!): Khaleke Hudson
  • MLB: Mike McCray
  • WLB: Devin Bush
  • CB1: LaVert Hill
  • CB2: David Long
  • Nickel: Brandon Watson
  • SS: Josh Metellus
  • FS: Tyree Kinnel
  • K: Quinn Nordin
  • P: Brad Robbins
  • KO: Kyle Seychel
  • PR: Nate Johnson
  • KR: Donovan Peoples-Jones

My guesses: Tough to pick against any of these defensive starters.  I guess I'll go with JKP taking the nickel role over Watson.  Surprise contributor would be Jordan Glasgow.  On special teams, McDoom fielding punts and kick offs.

others receive much of the hype (and rightly so) but winovich has a legit shot to lead his team in sacks.

metellus should have a nice year.  and i think ambry thomas will force his way onto the field (sooner than later).

also bush is the mike with mccray at will - if you care to adjust your lineup

Devin Bush decapitates a man this year. Okay not really, but still, he and Khaleke are going to bury a few poor souls into the ground this Fall. I re-watched Khaleke leveling O'Korn a few times in the spring game and with no disrespect to O'Korn, I couldn't help but get excited.

stats, but I think Mone will have a monster year on the DL and it will show as the other guys on the line have more room to wreck havoc. On special teams I will say Robbins will be huge punting and help flip field position for us this season.

DPJ ends up the return man and scores on 2 of them. Hudson is a stud at VIPER. Mone starts off like a man on fire due the double teams eaten up by Hurst and Gary.

I believe DPJ will hurdle 3 guys on one play and the last one will be a take off from  the ten yard line ending in a jumpman pose as he dunks over the crossbar that he catches before it lands while getting his feet down in the end zone. Kahleke will do the same thing on a pick six!
