Looks really good.
February 24th, 2018 at 11:33 AM ^
give a Fuck how good it is.
Fuck PedState.
February 24th, 2018 at 1:01 PM ^
The F word is strong in this one. Also the cowbell.
February 24th, 2018 at 4:32 PM ^
Just fyi. Doesn't look like it paints JoePa in a good light. Which is accurate, and good.
February 24th, 2018 at 9:13 AM ^
Does it take a giant shit all over paterno and his legacy? Because if not don’t even want to give the trailer clicks
February 24th, 2018 at 9:22 AM ^
It looks like they're going to be pretty honest with that. And the PSU fans are gonna get it, too.
February 24th, 2018 at 10:34 AM ^
PSU fans will never get it.
February 24th, 2018 at 9:55 AM ^
Hbo is not one to shy away from that stuff and it’d be hard not to anyway.
February 24th, 2018 at 10:23 AM ^
Seems from the trailer it won’t reflect very well on most of those folks
February 24th, 2018 at 11:01 AM ^
Dante had one ring too few. There should be a place in hell for those that abuse children or enable abusers.
February 24th, 2018 at 11:56 AM ^
Good. They should be exposed until the end of time.
It’s just a shame and so damn creepy how many people knew, and for how long they knew, a la Nassar and MSU.
February 24th, 2018 at 9:14 AM ^
I genuinely don't think that I have the heart to watch such a thing. It makes me tear up just thinking about the situation. I don't know how anybody "in the know" at Penn State could see that monster walking around campus with children and continue to live with themselves. It's safe to say that Hell has some spots currently filled, and some spots reserved.
February 24th, 2018 at 9:35 AM ^
Especially since joepa had grandkids of his own! Ask your ped state friends that if that boy mcqueary saw in the shower with sandusky was joepa's grandkid, would he have "just" told his AD and done nothing else - FUCK NO!!!
BTW, FUCK penn state and all their delusional joepa loving fans!!!
February 24th, 2018 at 9:15 AM ^
Wow that looks very entertaining. Looks like it will provide a harsh criticism of JoePa and Penn State.
February 24th, 2018 at 9:17 AM ^
Guaranteed, HBO does a series on MSU of the lid ever actually gets blown off.
February 24th, 2018 at 9:44 AM ^
I could see someone making a movie about Rachel den Hollander. Everything she went through to finally get someone to believe her, and even then the school continually denying everything. Finally ending with his total destruction in court and everyone who denied her getting what was coming to them.
February 24th, 2018 at 9:28 AM ^
This looks like its going to be taking a flamethrower to Paterno/that administration as it should.
I like that HBO is really getting into the sports space (with this and the Andre the Giant documentary) and i'm really looking forward to what comes next!
February 24th, 2018 at 9:34 AM ^
...of dramatized movies about fallen icons played by aging movie stars (see also DeNiro playing Bernie Madoff) just strikes me as the entertainment media making a buck by exploitation. Now, if HBO were to give the profits to fighting child molestation I would feel differently. But they wont. And I strongly doubt that this movie will do anything to advance our knowledge of the Penn State horror.
February 24th, 2018 at 11:08 AM ^
I'm a PSU alum and fan - I have no problem with the movie. They don't owe the profits to child abuse agencies.
No, it won't really "advance the knowledge." I doubt the movie mentions, for instance, Spanier was found "guilty" on child endangerment but "not guilty" on the conspiracy to cover up that child endangerment.
But it doesn't have to mention that nor "advance the knowledge": it's a movie, not a documentary.

People have been making dramatizations of scandals since what, the ancient greeks? Just because it's a horrific story doesn't mean it's off limits. Movies are art, and they are meant to tell a story. There are plenty of movies about the Holocaust.
Just from the trailor it has interesting details that I hadn't heard about. There are probably a lot of sports fans out there who know very little about what happened, and if this movie is accurate it could help people realize just how horrible the Paternos were (and still are).
February 24th, 2018 at 9:44 AM ^
I know I saw torches but did I also see at least one or two pitchforks too?
This should be excellent.
February 24th, 2018 at 9:52 AM ^
Spoiler alert...its dramatic
February 24th, 2018 at 9:53 AM ^
This should be fun
February 24th, 2018 at 9:57 AM ^
I have no interest in watching this movie.
February 24th, 2018 at 10:07 AM ^
I was there in 2002, but had to miss 2005. One of the rare home “big game” misses for me in the past 15 years.
Anyway...I dropped HBO but will pick it back up when the new season of Thrones drops, and I’ll likely check this out then.
February 24th, 2018 at 10:14 AM ^
it maybe would be the 1999 game , the one with the Brady comeback. That was Sandusky's last home game at Penn St I am pretty sure.
February 24th, 2018 at 10:17 AM ^
It was.
"Jerry Sandusky's last game at Beaver Stadium is an unhappy one."
~ Brent Musberger
February 24th, 2018 at 11:43 AM ^
Yeah, that was the storyline for the game - PSU trying to send Sandusky out a winner. Thank goodness we came back to win.
February 24th, 2018 at 11:35 AM ^
But the next season of GoT isn’t coming out til summer 2019. By then you could watch the “JoePa knew” flick on YouTube...
February 24th, 2018 at 10:07 AM ^
I feel bad getting excited for a movie that feels almost like bloodsport, but those fuckers need to burn. FUCK PENN STATE.
February 24th, 2018 at 10:17 AM ^
Pacino was great in You Don’t Know Jack - HBO depiction of the Jack Kevorkian story. Expecting a similar performance from Pacino, here, and highly recommend YDKJ to those who haven’t seen it.
Side note/Humble brag: The reporter who broke the Kevorkian story - Jack Lessenberry - teaches at Wayne State J-school. Had a class with him.
February 24th, 2018 at 10:26 AM ^
It's the 10 straight years of crossing paths with the child rapist on campus, knowing what he knew at the time and doing NOTHING to follow up that I would hope the movie includes. That was always the hardest thing for me to grasp.
Is it possible they could include an alternate ending where Penn State is kicked out of the conference? I guess you always want what you can't have.
February 24th, 2018 at 10:28 AM ^
Like Hitler in Inglorious Basterds.
February 24th, 2018 at 10:37 AM ^
It's a sequel to 'Devil's Advocate'.
February 24th, 2018 at 10:46 AM ^
It shall be titled ‘Pitino’
February 24th, 2018 at 11:37 AM ^
but they only need a 15 second trailer to cover Pitino's story
February 24th, 2018 at 11:07 AM ^
I'm curious to see how they handle any flashback scenes, because the trailer.just makes him sound like a senile dotard. Which he was at the end, but from an artistic standpoint the more compelling dramatization is to be found during his competitive era.
February 24th, 2018 at 11:33 AM ^
Well, when you see him in diapers at the end, it’s like a flashback to his newborn years.
February 24th, 2018 at 11:17 AM ^
Definitely looks like HBO is going to be suggesting JoePa knew everything and that Penn State fans look like a rabid cult caring only for football (which everyone outside the fanbase also thinks) so I have high hopes for it
Can't wait for that one Paterno to denounce it and threaten a lawsuit against HBO
February 24th, 2018 at 12:10 PM ^
Open up a dialogue with him via Twitter. He seems like a real rational guy.
February 24th, 2018 at 11:34 AM ^
Looks like they take Paterno's complicity head on. Good for the film makers. Now I just hope Pacino doesnt over-act and ruin the film.
Also, it's great to see that reporter get back on her feet after her previous career selling the girlfriend experience.
February 24th, 2018 at 11:35 AM ^
For anybody that has ever been to Happy Valley you realize what Joe Paterno did for that school, that school would be nothing athletically without him that however does not excuse the things that Joe Paterno did. Joe Paterno continue to coach if you call it that as he sat in the Press Box his final few years just to collect wins to make him the winningest coach of all time . He was driven by ego and that's why he did nothing about the Jerry Sandusky scandal, his wins and I meant more to him then the children. FUCK JO PA, FUCK PSU
February 24th, 2018 at 11:43 AM ^
is in the college football Hall of Fame!
16 years at PSU, no losing records, and the profile of the program rose from regional backwater to legit Top 20 team (Top 20 5 of Engle's last 7 years) and a northeast program on par with previously established Pitt and Syracuse.
PSU got to the next level under Paterno - but your post that "the school would be nothing athletically without Paterno" is not correct.
February 24th, 2018 at 2:33 PM ^
I said this when the teaser trailer was released, but it's even more striking in this one: Pacino is a dead ringer for Paterno in this movie. The actor who plays Sandusky also looks exactly like him. It's kind of scary, actually.
February 24th, 2018 at 3:09 PM ^
It,s surprisingly not close for me. Penn State is my most despised program. Followed by Notre Dame, then Ohio State. Michigan State is making a run though!
February 24th, 2018 at 6:41 PM ^
This looks capital-G Good. The trailer makes it look like the brutally honest firebombing that Paterno deserves. Not to go political/cultural, but I think this has the potential to be a valuable commentary on some larger discussions going on in our country right now that extend well beyond the world of sports.
February 24th, 2018 at 7:50 PM ^
I dislike Penn State very much. I hope they don't sugarcoat this tragedy at all, but pour it on.
However . . . it is very hard for me to watch stuff like this. I just don't think I could watch any graphic representation of what happened. Or rather, I could, but I don't want to. I don't want to watch something that I can't unwatch. The images are bad enough for memory. I have learned that there are horrific things that happen in this world which I have no desire to see. So very, very sad.
