Good for Patches. I don't like to give out the captaincy purely based on position, but given that he's not a center or a top pairing defensemen, he must have really showed something to be worthy of the honor. I am surprised. Not because it didn't go to PK, but because it didn't go to Carey Price. Regardless, I think that this is a positive sign for Patches' career in terms of his maturity. I do not like the Habs, but I do enjoy watching Patches play.

They can obviously call it whatever they want in their own locker room, but that situation means the scoresheet lists three alternates with no named captain.

I did not know about this rule or whatever. I did know that Luongo was captain but did not know the box score part.

Was there ever an actual rule saying a goalie could be a captain? I wouldn't be surprised either way from way back, but obviously a goalie can't fulfill the in-game responsibilities.
Sidenote, am I the only hockey guy who thinks putting a C on a jersey in sports where it doesn't have any meaning is annoying?

One of the first links talks about Price and whether the rule makes sense in an age of media timeouts and video reviews. IMO that's just one more reason to keep the rule in place, but I was never on a team with a goalie leader, so I imagine others feel differently.

Top line of Patch-Porter-Kolarik and you had Hagelin, Palushaj, Caporusso, Rust, Summers, and several other notable guys on that team. The Hagelin-Patch,etc class has got to be one of the best ones Michigan's had in 20 years

Re that team/the teams immedately after: who imagined Luke Glendenning would be established in the league and Porter/Kolarik wouldn't?

Speaking of Subban and Montreal, he made what is believed to be the biggest ever donation by a Canadian athlete this week, pledging $10mm to the Montreal Children's Hospital.

And they can't give you a C?

Pretty surprised it wasn't Price or Subban but great for Max!

Pacioretty is a solid choice, but I'm shocked it wasn't Subban. Hope Max doesn't get hit with some unfair backlash as a result.

The Canadiens use their history and tradition in social media and in general just about better than anyone. If I was the UM athletic department I would study how they do what they do. Right now, a lot of pictures of Max on the Canadiens instagram account (canadiensmtl). Congratulations, Max, and continue to hold the torch high. Go Habs Go!

to be named Captain in their history. The others are Chris Chelios and Brian Gionta. All three interesting enough are products of the NCAA hockey development system, not Canadian juniors.
