Whoa, Nellie...

Oh man that sucks, R.I.P.
January 13th, 2018 at 11:07 AM ^
great announcer - loved the call on the Desmond Howard punt return for a TD vs OSU
January 13th, 2018 at 11:14 AM ^
To that call closely he pretty much does a little gasp when Desmond makes his move and says something like “would you look at that.” It’s such an authentic call and he reacted just like one of us but just happened to have a mike in front of him. He genuinely appreciated the talent on display. He has been sorely missed since retiring and will continue to be.
January 13th, 2018 at 11:18 AM ^
He was a big part of college football and part of the reason i love it so much. RIP KJ.
January 13th, 2018 at 12:13 PM ^
Big party of college football without TRYING to be s big part. He was authentic and nothing was forced. He'll be missed.
January 13th, 2018 at 12:46 PM ^
Chris Berman and the army of dorks at ESPN could learn from watching clips of Jackson. RIP.
January 13th, 2018 at 11:26 AM ^
I was sitting in the end zone that Desmond was running to. Listening to the call by Beckmann on my walk man. When I got home, I watched a tape of the game. Jackson’s call was awesome too! RIP.
January 13th, 2018 at 7:18 PM ^
"Desmond Howard is going all the way!" Fans in the state of Michigan have been blessed with some great announcers.
January 13th, 2018 at 11:47 AM ^
"One man" ... then paused "Good bye" and then another pause until the Heisman pose
January 13th, 2018 at 1:20 PM ^
Goodbye Keith, you will be missed.
January 13th, 2018 at 1:29 PM ^
"Hello Heisman!". RIP Hoss.
January 13th, 2018 at 11:20 AM ^
for exclaiming one of Jackson's absolutely greatest of phrases?
whoa nellie is right, and may Jackson rest in peace. i'm pretty sure he will.

There's always a turd in the internet punchbowl.
January 13th, 2018 at 12:48 PM ^
Sometimes people are negging the poster rather than the comment. Some posters are eminently neggable.
January 13th, 2018 at 12:11 PM ^
Heaven got a dandy!
January 13th, 2018 at 10:44 AM ^
RIP he was my childhood. I'll never forget his call of the '97 national championship game.
January 13th, 2018 at 11:30 AM ^
“The MVP of today’s ball game: you wanna know who it is? I’m standing alongside his proud daddy. Quarterback Brian Griese of Michigan”
January 13th, 2018 at 12:17 PM ^
I remember that very well. Bob was trying so hard not to lose it, but his eyes were welling up and his voice was going south on him. If there ever a picture of a Dad bursting with pride over his son, that was it.
RIP, Keith. You were one of the best ever. Like I said when Dick Enberg passed, listening to him and Jackson was listening to your favorite uncle.
January 13th, 2018 at 1:27 PM ^
and you have three of the four sports "Mount Rushmore" broadcasters
January 13th, 2018 at 2:46 PM ^
I liked the next part of that exchange. “You wanna cry, you go ahead and cry. I’ll carry ya.” Amazing.
January 13th, 2018 at 1:36 PM ^
This comment, observation, was so astute, so humane, so kind, so caring. Tears were in my eyes. Loved him. Feeling like I lost a family member. RIP KJ
January 13th, 2018 at 10:45 AM ^
Helped make a college football fan. Best announcer ever.
Miss him a lot.
January 13th, 2018 at 10:45 AM ^
He was one of a kind.
January 13th, 2018 at 10:46 AM ^
He was definitely my all-time favorite announcer for college football, and might be for any sport.
He was smart about the game, genuine, entertaining and energetic without being over-exuberant. Hasn't been one like him since.
January 13th, 2018 at 10:56 AM ^
He was the best. Simply the best...
January 13th, 2018 at 10:46 AM ^
Hello Heisman!!! What an game caller!!
January 13th, 2018 at 11:09 AM ^
The best call he ever made! What a legend, sad day.
January 13th, 2018 at 10:49 AM ^
I’ll remember him for making my football Saturdays better.
January 13th, 2018 at 10:49 AM ^
Awful news to start this Saturday off.
I hope that Michigan football does a little something special in honor of Keith at the first home game this season.
January 13th, 2018 at 7:21 PM ^
I'm sure they will. After all, he nicknamed it The Big House.
January 13th, 2018 at 10:52 AM ^
"We're gonna play football, yippee!"
My favorite KJ quote ever, and how I feel every fall Saturday.
January 13th, 2018 at 11:14 AM ^
Great album of great Michigan moments. Awesome and thank you.
January 13th, 2018 at 11:43 AM ^
Keith Jackson was so good and set the bar so high that to this day we all still think every other announcer completely sucks. RIP Mr. Jackson, you were the all-time greatest.

The first Saturday after football season. R.I.P. Keith Jackson. When I fell in love with college football it was conveyed with that voice. I can still hear him open up the Michigan - Ohio State games I saw way back in the 70s. I can still hear that Whoa, Nelly, lock the barn door! He will be missed by us all.
January 13th, 2018 at 11:21 AM ^
Almost like this peculiar circumstance of his passing was pre-ordained for him to "ride off into the sunset" like this then, eh?
January 13th, 2018 at 10:57 AM ^
"The last time Brian Griese ran that far his daddy was chasin' him with a stick."
RIP to the voice of college football itself.
January 13th, 2018 at 10:56 AM ^
Damn. The best, for my money. As another noted above, he helped get me into football. Was always great hearing him on a broadcast.
January 13th, 2018 at 11:00 AM ^
I'd argue this is not OT. He was that important to the sport, and of course called many of Michigan's great moments.
RIP
January 13th, 2018 at 11:09 AM ^
The sounds of my youth resonated with voices of the likes of Cosell, Harwell, and Keith Jackson.
All were appreciated, and all are missed.

That best call link above contains the Kordell Stewart hail Mary. That was painful to watch.
Keith Jackson was in a category by himself. My favorite Jackson-ism:
FUUMMMBBLLLEE....
January 13th, 2018 at 11:53 AM ^
I was fortunate enough to attend the '97 Rose Bowl. When WA St took possession for the final drive of the game, I turned to my best friend and said "If they score, it will make the last play of the CO game look like the best play I have ever seen."
On some level, the painful moments make the sweet moments all the more sweet.
At least that's my rationalization!
January 13th, 2018 at 11:02 AM ^
Not the way to start off 2018.
The best in the biz. Ever.
RIP
January 13th, 2018 at 11:03 AM ^
I grew up listening to Keith. It’s not technically true but in my mind he was the voice of Michigan football. There has never been another one like him. RIP
January 13th, 2018 at 11:03 AM ^
I hear in my head when I think back on the UM games I watched as a kid.
January 13th, 2018 at 11:03 AM ^
Wasn't even close. Loved how much he loved Michigan football and how every Notre Dame fan I know bitched about it
January 13th, 2018 at 11:08 AM ^
Just (half) kidding of course.
He was a once in a lifetime talent / voice. Other than Vin Scully, I cannot think of anyone as universally well liked and respected by the public as Keith Jackson.
January 13th, 2018 at 11:40 AM ^
but I would respectfully add Ernie Harwell to that list.
