The Celtics and Cavs have to be kicking themselves right now. A years rental of George for those teams, with even a 10% chance he stays, has to mean more to them than whatever they had to give up for him. The Celtics especially. They easily couldve beaten that offer and barely hurt their future. This is mind-boggling.

George had already announced he was leaving as a free agent after next season. The Pacers had essentially no leverage because they had to trade him soon or get nothing in a year.

And Oladipo is a solid player. Good defender. Decent scorer. The Pacers probably did about as well as they could have considering their position.

is 21mm a year good. He's one of the best and most versatile two way players in basketball. And KCP is a lot closer to 20mm than people give him credit for. Drummonds deal looks like an abomination now, but when he signed it, he was 22 and fresh off a 3rd team All NBA.

We all know that salaries have exploded league-wide. Many of the recent criticisms of the salaries of individual players seem to be operating off of the wrong baseline.

John Wall was just offered a 4-year $170 million contract by the Wizards. Oladipo is no Wall, obviously. But in a league where the stars can make over $40 million a year, paying a talented role player $21 million is hardly absurd.

He scored 16 points a game last year shooting 44% from the field and 36% from the 3 point line. He's a very good defensive player and can match up against point guards and shooting guards very effectively. On a lot of teams, he's probably your 3rd leading scorer and your best defensive player.

He is 25 years old and still a few years away from reaching his prime. Right now, he is probably no worse than the 3rd best player on your team.

The latest projection is the NBA's soft cap will be set at $102 million and the luxury tax limit $113 million. The cap will likely rise even higher the following year. For today's NBA, Oladipo's contract is not that bad.

he's under 22 and came out of the all-star season. His numbers is pretty much matched close to his contract value which is a value signing.

Reggie Jackson's contract on the other hand...... That's an abomination.

Seriously, would anybody be bummed if the pistons overpaid for Tim Hardaway Jr.? Objectively he is an OK player, a starter according to some, but notoriously streaky and a blah defender, so probably not a great roster move for a middling team like Detroit. However, I would totally pay good money to go to Pistons games on the 10% chance that THJr. transforms into Kobe Bryant for a couple quarters. Even if the team isn't going anywhere, my nostalgia for OUR CHAMPIONSHIP run would be a strong incentive to shell out for a few NBA games each season when I'm back in Detroit. (I really hope this happens BTW, would be super fun!) Obviously Olidipo is a very different kind of player (read: active defender), but I'm sure it would be a similar scenario for Hoosiers fans. With more touches and a sympathetic fan base, Olidipo will probably thrive.

He has shown that he is a triple-double threat(occasionally, not average one) when CP3 was injured in the playoffs a few years ago. He is one of the best passing big men in the league. It's so sad to see him go to a below-the-rim player though, the dunk contest where he was absurd doesn't seem all that long ago. Even with the slight physical limitations, he's a top-10 player in the league when healthy.

If he played in the '90's, he would have been a monster. But his game is not going to win you a championship...so paying him a ridiculous amount of money...Clips goin' Clip. Dude's overrated and is never going to come close to contributing to a team that is a threat to win the championship.

And you were right! As for PG to OKC, this just makes them *almost* as good as they were with KD and they couldn't beat the Dubs then, and now KD is on GS, so.... In my mind this just makes sure no team can beat the Dubs next year, cuz PG to a top contender (Cle, Bos, SA) may have swung the balance.

Well, that being the case, here's the rumor that did not happen ultimately. This was being thrown around earlier today as a possibility, but alas....
