OT: How about the Pistons?

Submitted by Occam's Razor on

5-0 since acquiring Blake Griffin. Drummond and Griffin seem to have nice synergy too.

Next matchup is against the Clippers Friday on primetime.

He’s a solid role player. Seems to be one of the team leaders. Decent defender and rebounder. Good perimeter shooter.

Since Buh-Lak-e’ was traded to Detroit the offense has opened up. Used to be all high pick n roll with Drummond. Ish would dribble like mad, if he didn’t turn it over or miss a layup he would kick it out to Kennard, Tobias, Bullock, Tolliver or Johnson- repeat for 48 minutes.

Griffin has often been the catalyst. Defenses have to account for him driving the lane, pulling up or dishing to Drummond inside. Has really opened up shots that Bullock and Kennard are knocking down. Even Stanley Johnson has gotten going.

If you look at the past 5 box scores something that stands out that wasn’t happening prior to the trade was the scoring distribution now includes 6-7 Pistons regularly in or near double figures. Van Gundy had to make something happen to salvage this season, and frankly save his own ass. His seat was quickly growing hotter as the losing streak hit 8 just before the deal.

Yeah been there a number of times myself had mini seaon packs for the Pistons (Badboy years) and the Viperrs games.

I live pretty close to the Palace so that helped too.  The new LCP venue is gorgeous but I"m not a big fan of driving to Detroit for games.

Will be fun to see how we look against Boston, Cleveland and Toronto with Blake.  We're still barely beating some subpar teams (Brooklyn, Memphis), but hopefully that will change once the chemistry improves.

Anyone with a casual rooting interest in the NBA should be pulling for the Pistons.  If Tom Gores can be mildly drunk after beating the Grizzlies, imagine how sloshed he'll be if we win a playoff game!

We finally have something to cheer for!!! My guess is Stan will be looking for another perimeter shooter in the trade market. We lost a lot of shooters in the Griffin trade.

At first I thought this trade was just good to bring excitement back to the Pistons. Now its making them better. Multiple people are stepping up, especially Stanley Johnson. Hopefully Blake will be motivated on Friday and we get to see some epic dunks on his former team. Its nice to enjoy watching the Pistons again!

The LCA still looks empty despite the Griffin led run against some below average teams. The team is entertaining and tickets are pretty reasonable (and you can park for free near Cass Tech).

Fun fact 1 : Ish Smith was undrafted and has played on 11 NBA teams in 8 years.

Fun fact 2: I've gone to three games this year and Drummond has been absolutely horrible. Every game I watch on TV, Drummond looks like Wilt Chamberlain (27 rebounds tonight?)

I don't think the trade suddenly made the Pistons a contender in the East, but Bradley and Harris weren't long term pieces of their team's future and Griffin is still pretty young and when paired with Drummond you get an offensive playmaker who can help keep the offense going when they normally would hit a slump.

Jackson coming back could very well screw stuff up or he could help complete the East version of the Clippers that feels like this team's destiny, if a more bargain basement version.

I do wish we could have hung on to Marcus Morris. Mook was always the hardest worker on the team the past couple seasons and pairing him with Griffin and Drummond would be a dream right now, regardless, I am more excited about Pistons basketball than I have been in the last 10 years. Blake seemed to give this team the needed shot in the arm to prove what they could do.
