OT: Blake Griffin is a Piston
Per Woj:
Clippers trying to free-up for Lebron?
Who (and what) would we be letting go?
Either way -- big (potential) news!
EDIT
From the comments, it's possibly quite the steep asking price: Bradley, Tobias, Boban, and our first-round pick.
EDIT #2
Per Woj, done deal:

Send them Darko. Same Same
January 29th, 2018 at 7:59 PM ^
he'll, he's only 32, bring him back to Motown!
January 29th, 2018 at 6:22 PM ^
For a season ending injury after he joins the Pistons at 2 games.
January 29th, 2018 at 6:24 PM ^
I'll take the under...
January 29th, 2018 at 6:32 PM ^
The Clippers are the cursed franchise

Clippers are the most cursed nba franchise

Sacramento says, "hold my beer..."
January 29th, 2018 at 9:06 PM ^
They had a nice era with Webber, Bibby, and Vlade. You can be upset about getting screwed by the refs against the Lakers in the conference finals, but at least they got there. The Clippers got bupkis.
January 30th, 2018 at 2:19 AM ^
being a kings fan, I feel cursed, but at the end of the day it's management. We essentially traded Demarcus for the #10 pick and buddy hield, that's bad.
January 29th, 2018 at 8:39 PM ^
...Blake has been fun to watch...but can never get through a season unscathed.
The biggest joke is that the Clippers think they have a chance of getting Lebron. There is a curse on the Clippers that they will never shake unless they change their name and move out of Los Angeles (not DTLA to Inglewood).
January 29th, 2018 at 9:08 PM ^
James wants to join a super team. The Clippers have nobody. DeAndre Jordan is a great player, but he is not a superstar.
January 30th, 2018 at 12:18 AM ^
Setting up for a move for Lebron is certainly what the local media seems to think in Cleveland.
January 30th, 2018 at 1:05 AM ^
To the Clippers...LOL
They have no players left on the team that anyone would want to play with except for Deandre Jordan who plays Center like it was the ‘90’s.
January 29th, 2018 at 6:23 PM ^
I’m assuming Avery is part of the deal. Who else? Would we dare package up Andre? I’d do it.
January 29th, 2018 at 6:31 PM ^
Hell no -- no need to even compare their games. On injury history alone. Blake is snake-bit in the worst way.
January 29th, 2018 at 6:33 PM ^
Yes Blake is made of glass. It’s a fair point.
January 29th, 2018 at 6:36 PM ^
I was reading an SI article on him early in the year. He works his ass off to try and prevent injuries, while also improving his game (like adding a 3-pt shot this year).
He makes progress and then, inevitably, something snaps or is broken.
And it's not going to get any better as he gets older, unless he defies medical science.
January 29th, 2018 at 6:40 PM ^
And now the Pistons want to take it over. Somebody thinks he can stay healthy. I sure hope they're right.
January 29th, 2018 at 10:19 PM ^
McDyess, Hardaway both come to mind. Not sure if that was all Arnie Lander or not, but we had that reputation for a while.
January 29th, 2018 at 11:04 PM ^
Kander, and yeah, that was basically all him. I forget who exactly, think it was Dice, who gave an interview that said basically he'd been written off by every doctor that looked at him and Kander fixed him up. That guy was an absolutely elite trainer.
January 30th, 2018 at 12:19 AM ^
It could be worse. He could have just been born old like Greg Oden.
January 29th, 2018 at 6:42 PM ^
"Since then he has missed time with back spasms, a torn left quad, a broken hand, a staph infection, right knee surgery, a broken toe, a sprained left MCL and a concussion. He missed 21 games in 2017 and 47 in 2016."
January 29th, 2018 at 6:49 PM ^
Some players have a bad knee, or a bad back.
With Blake, he's like the guy from the board game Operation -- there are like 10 areas that you can't touch, some that haven't even been problems yet.
January 29th, 2018 at 6:24 PM ^
stanley, Bradley, white stiff from last year, and a pick.
January 29th, 2018 at 6:25 PM ^
Per Kevin O’Connor Twitter -
The deal I heard that's being discussed is Blake Griffin for Avery Bradley, Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanovic, and a first-round pick.
January 29th, 2018 at 6:26 PM ^
Ahhhhhhhhhh
January 29th, 2018 at 6:28 PM ^
If that happened I would throw up
January 29th, 2018 at 6:34 PM ^
Griffin is signed through 2022 -- at $38 million a year.
Are the Pistons one piece away from contending? Um....no (unless that piece is a LeBron / Bill Russell / MJ hybrid who never gets tired or injured).
Griffin is an excellent player, but is *way* too injury prone. The Pistons don't need any more dead money. If I'm not mistaken, they are still paying Josh Smith.
January 30th, 2018 at 12:21 AM ^
Dang. I had to look that up because I didn't believe it at first. I guess I have to remind myself that he's only 28.
January 29th, 2018 at 6:35 PM ^
Can’t trade the pick, I agree.
Avery is gone after this year anyways. Boban would be dearly missed.
Obviously Tobias is the tough loss here. He’s relatively affordable and i love his game. This seems like a reach from SVG, who is clearly grasping to energize this organization.
January 29th, 2018 at 7:22 PM ^
The Austin Rivers era begins in Los Angeles.
January 29th, 2018 at 6:26 PM ^
Well, one of the rumors about the potential trade...
Heard it's a form of Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, a first-rounder and Boban Marjanovic to the Clippers for Blake Griffin
— Vincent Goodwill (@vgoodwill) January 29, 2018
January 29th, 2018 at 6:35 PM ^
at least it could be interesting
January 29th, 2018 at 6:34 PM ^
Now.
I have NO CLUE what to make of this.
The Clippers and Pistons have agreed on a deal to trade Blake Griffin for Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic, a first-round and a second-round draft pick, league sources tell ESPN.
January 29th, 2018 at 6:38 PM ^
We was robbed. But Van Gundy needs to make the playoffs or he is going to be fired so he needs a quick boost. This is the problem with the coach-GM combo package.
January 29th, 2018 at 6:57 PM ^
there's no way he's still hurt...
January 29th, 2018 at 7:57 PM ^
does using a cane count as hurt?
January 29th, 2018 at 7:10 PM ^
Agree - this smells like desperation and a last-chance idea on SVG's part. He's been fiddling and fiddling with the roster and nothing works. I thought the team they'd assembled this year was pretty good, but without Jackson it's been tanking horribly and even before he went down the cracks were showing.
If this Griffin thing doesn't work, 1) the Pistons are gonna be in cap hell for a while and Drummond is straight-up gone, and 2) SVG is toast. Suddenly, you're looking at much bigger roles for guys like Kennard and Stanley Johnson because the backcourt is shit on a shingle right now. And, uh, those guys haven't exactly lived up to any expectations. This twin-towers strategy is kind of a desperation heave if you ask me.
January 29th, 2018 at 6:36 PM ^
Two picks?? What the fuck
January 29th, 2018 at 6:39 PM ^
Is not really a pick. Those dudes pan out of a 100.
January 29th, 2018 at 7:25 PM ^
Yeah but the pistons have drafted plenty of solid players with those second round picks. The problem is they’re all playing elsewhere
January 29th, 2018 at 7:33 PM ^
They probably would have been drafted or landed somewhere else.
I don't give them any credit for drafting someone that's not on their team anymore.
January 29th, 2018 at 9:58 PM ^
You can buy a 2nd rd pick if needed...Warriors got Jordan Bell because they bought the 38th pick from Chicago.
January 29th, 2018 at 11:36 PM ^
Yeah, this isn't the NFL. A second round pick in the NBA can be had by virtually anyone who wants one.
January 29th, 2018 at 6:40 PM ^
Oooh, wait... they've given up their 1st *and* 2nd round pick.
So they'll suck *and* have no picks for the future.
<Insert bold strategy Cotton gif here>
January 29th, 2018 at 7:01 PM ^
2nd round draft pick has very little value. You can buy those easily. Its essentially Harris and a mid 1st rounder for Griffin. No chance they were paying Bradley what he wants.
January 29th, 2018 at 6:34 PM ^
Out a first rounder to offload that horrible contract.
January 29th, 2018 at 6:36 PM ^
Griffin does nothing for me, or the Pistons. If that is the other option, just tank and hit the lottery. Griffin does not give max effort and he really doesn’t impose his will on games despite all his talent. This would be a very Piston-esque move though, so there is that.
January 29th, 2018 at 6:41 PM ^
who cares? the NBA is broken. this move is purely to fill seats
January 29th, 2018 at 6:53 PM ^
isn’t broken in a lot of places, just here. Across the board it is healthier than ever.
