OSU To Camp In FL?

Submitted by raleighwood on

I was driving home from work in Jacksonville today and local sports talk radio was talking about two things:

1.  Michigan coming to FL for Spring Break - The consensus was that it's a great idea but they thought that it would be closely watched for compliance and/or Title 9 issues.  No real complaints about the incursion.

2.  OSU coming to JAX in June for a three day camp - They prefaced this one by asking which Northern team would you not want to see coming to town......and OSU was the unanimous answer.  The hatred for Urban Meyer runs deep in UF fans (and probably FSU fans , too).

The OSU camp has not been confirmed but they named dates and a location so the planning seems to be pretty far along.

They seemed to think that Harbaugh got the ball rolling and these types of events (camps and trips) will continue to grow in the future.  He's had quite an impact in one year!

Edit:  To clarify, this is a summer camp for HS students......just like Michigan did last summer throughout the country.  Coaches will be there but OSU players will not be (at least not as a full unit).

Just because Delaney doesn't come out and make comments or tweet doesn't mean the guy isn't fighting for his conference. That narrative on this blog is so idiotic. Delaney is a weasel but the man knows who/ what pays his salary. He does everything he can to protect that.

Really? Because the last thing he came out and proposed publicly was freshman ineligibility for football and basketball, which would be the quickest way to make our conference entirely uncompetitive nationally in both sports. He's not exactly the guy we should want in our corner when it comes to protecting our competitive interests.

The entire conference can thank Bo for not having to set home and watch the bowl games after going through a season with maybe one loss. Even though his words were out  of anger and aimed at all the jealous ADs running programs not named Michigan, he was the reason for abolishing that ridiculous, long-standing one team rule.

And Jim will probably establish more precedents here in fewer time than any other conference coach has ever accomplished. Loved the quote from the NY OLman, "They are serious up there. They are on a mission."

I haven't heard Saban whining at all. I think he's comfortable knowing he will most likely get who he wants and is close enough to retirement it wont really cause him concern.

The problem is for the rest of the SEC looking to close the gap while having BigTen teams drink their milkshakes.

I was at dinner on spring break in Naples, FL in March 2013 and Urban Meyer was there. I gave him a death stare. This relates b/c spring break and urban meyer and b/c I have low standards for posting.

Jacksonville is the worst city in Florida. I mean who vacations in Jacksonville? Nobody. It's the armpit of Florida, much like Ohio is the armpit of the Midwest.
It makes sense.
