NY Times Article About Short Shorts

Submitted by Tom Snow on

My earliest memory of Michigan basketball was the Fab Five's freshman season. I'll never forget reading the book by Mitch Albom and Jalen switching shorts with the biggest guy on the team.

Thanks to DJ Wilson, Jordan Poole, and Isaiah Livers, the trend is back the other way. Livers has switched shorts with Z and most guys roll up their shorts 3 times.

I hate short shorts, mostly because I was a stick thin high schooler with legs up to my neck.  I played in the 80's, so this was a transition period between SHORT shorts and a slightly looser look.  But shorts were still too short, IMHO.  I would have killed to play in the longer shorts era.   My mom preferred to comment on how many times I picked wedgies out of my ass crack during the game rather than my basketball skills.   The short short resurgence kindles insecure, awkward teenager thoughts.

Short shorts and long hair are back.

I was in JV when we switched from short shorts (with spandex) to longer jams. To me it felt so much freer with longer shorts. It wasn't long after that no dudes wore shorties except for football coaches age 45 or older.

what do you know. Maybe the Age of The Slob is finally coming to an end. Gee, it only took about 25 to 30 years.

Young People Will Always Think The Generation Before Them Was Uncool

(I'm not hoping for a return to 1979 type shorts, but Jesus what's the point if they're below the knee? They're basically man-capris at that point).
