***NON-CREDIBLE*** Shooting Threat at U-M
Figured it was worth sharing an email I had when I got into work this morning. (Bolded for emphasis)
Good evening everyone,
The University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security has notified me about a single incident of graffiti with the message, “School Shooting 4/13,” written on a bathroom stall in Mason Hall. The graffiti has since been removed.
This situation has been reviewed carefully by DPSS in conjunction with local, state and federal law enforcement partners. They believe that it is not a credible threat to our community.
The U-M campus will be fully operational Friday (the date mentioned in the graffiti) and U-M remains committed to the safety and security of our community.
We all play a role in ensuring community safety. If you see something that shouldn’t be there or someone’s behavior doesn’t seem quite right – say something.
If you have any information regarding this incident or additional concerns, please contact DPSS at 734-763-1131 or at dpss-safety-security@umich.edu.
If I learn more, I will update you with additional information.
AGAIN, the threat was deemed NOT CREDIBLE, and campus is open as normal today. This shit isn't funny.

all honestly, how is this something that can be "reviewed carefully" by law enforcement. I don't think anything more than a cursory review is possible in this circumstance.

Because saying it will be "reviewed cursorily" is not reassuring--and really awkward.
Check security cameras from time before it was reported, see if anyone threatening/armed was there. Look through social media for other matching threats. I agree, there isn't much to go on but I'm sure there was at least some investigation.
Honestly though, if someone was in a state where they were going to shoot up a bunch of college kids, why would they advertise it by writing it on a bathroom stall?
Chances are some edgelord asshole just wanted to cause a stir. But then again, you don't want to brush off something like this.

I hope the joke was worth it. I imagine this is the kind of fuck-up that, if they catch you, lands you in prison for a few years.

I'd be worried about any type of threat. College campus' are not safe. Just look at MSU.
