MSU Board of Trustee Chairman Brian Breslin Will Not Run In November; Lyons Also

Wonder if he was pushed out by the MI GOP? The timing would seem to indicate that. We'll see what happens with Lyons.
Regardless, I'm glad he'll be gone, but sad I will not get the chance to vote against the bastard.

Red Wedding each and everyone of those stooges for their complete and utter failure. At this point, I think MSU as an institution has acted more disgracefully than Penn State, which is a charge I don't make lightly. They've failed the survivors and50,000 other students who've shown more integrity this week than the BoTrustees and Simon have since 2014.
It's one thing to protect the brand of Michigan State, which - to be fair - is literally their job. It's simultaneously evil and idiotic to think that protecting said brand equates to sitting on allegations of a molester on the payroll and stonewalling the victims' pleas for action.
Fire them all into a landfill and pick almost literally anyone else to run the place.

michigan state's response to all of this has been insane. usually i'd say the cover up is worse than the crime, but this crime is so bad it's hard to argue that one. but they certainly aren't doing themselves any favors with this. just awful, awful approach to this terrible situation.

Between the Nassar scandal and being a down-ballot Republican in the 2018 midterms, Breslin would rather step aside for this cycle than face defeat. Don't be surprised if you see him running again 2 or 4 years from now.
Mitch Lyons needs to get voted out immediately. Interested to see if the Republicans nominate him even if he wants to run. He was recently charged with misdemeanor assault and was an embarrasment during the football sexual assault investigation.

Tend to think this was the MI GOP (or Schuette) telling him he would not be receiving the nomination. Basically confirmed if Lyons makes a similar announcement soon.

And Lyons is also not seeking re-election, so... yeah.

Named for his dad, Jack, an alum and administrator at MSU. Also a dead ringer for Brent Musberger.

It is the one of the biggest intercollegiate athletics scandal in history. In our state. There were probably similar numbers when the Sandusky/PSU story broke. All of the threads are about the MSU Nassar scandal. None of them are about STAEE or D'Antonio.
This has less to do with rivalry and more to do with the enormity of this scandal right in our backyard.

I just want to know how Lyons can still BE on the board considering he outed Robertson as the Whistleblower AND had a warrant out for his arrest. Like how the shit do you not remove someone from an elected position for that? It's also hilarious that Perles, who now in his old age is a few fries short of a combo meal, remains on the BoT too.

This is how you end up with scandals like this and incompetent responses to them. When your Board of Trustees include goons like Lyons, Perles, & Ferguson who care more about the football program than the educational mission of the university, it was only a matter of time.
The selection process for trustees for state universities in the state of Michigan needs to be overhauled. The two political parties have control over what candidates make it to the ballot, and the students, alumni, and faculty of the university have little say in the process leaving it to the mercy of statewide ballot where most voters don't care and know little to nothing about the candidates. The same goes for the Michigan Supreme Court selection process. Some things should not be on a statewide ballot.

I have previously left the MSU trustees and Wayne State governors blank because I don't really know what's important for those schools. So I definitely agree with you. Dunno what reform should be made. Seems weird they're partisan positions though.

Dan Murphy of ESPN reporting Mitch Lyons is both demanding Simon's resignation and not seeking re-election in the fall.
