And shoot the lights out in a comeback win over Clarkson? I guess the voters felt Sparty needed something to feel good about.
Sparty will have plenty of time to slap the floor in celebration, as they sit on their asses at home for an extended off-season.
Won't they have to be sitting on their asses in the offices of the local FBI being interviewed as part of Bureau's ongoing investigation?
The only floor slapping staee players will do for a while is to kill the bugs in their dorm room.
In prison.
moved them out of the dorms under cover of night. . .
Dorms have standards.
Edit: Assuming they still have a couch to sit on that is not already burnt.
don't know man. I have seen Foster Loyer in person on numerous occassions and he is really good. I don't know how it will transfer to college ball, particularly at MSU, but he has had a great season and high school career. He took one on the chin against DeJulius, but his body of work has been deserving, and they are probably going to be playing for back to back State titles if they can beat a good Carmen Ainsworth team.
and would be well deserving of the award.
Voting is voting.
Michigan is taking all of the shoulder-chips formerly belonging to MSU. This can only pay dividends in the future.
When they played this season Loyer guarding DeJulius looked like Winston trying to guard Simpson. As usual, Beilein chose wisely.
Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I was under the impression that Beilein would have chosen Winston. Was that not the case?
It's ok, we'll all be laughing at Loyer for the next 4 years.
it's how Izzo will underdevelop the poor sod.
and, more importantly the way they'll be coached, and will develop.
Izzo will destroy his confidence. He’ll be a 2 star in no time
He will be on the bench watching a walk-on play out all of his crunch-time minutes.
So we can dash them again next year. Give me Jons and Obvious Dejulius over this guy every time.
Obvious Dejulius better stick, thats a great great name.
As I predicted on twitter, old white guys gave it to him as a lifetime achievement award, for being on a good team loaded with talent. Clarkston's record is crazy over the last two years.
The guys who vote on this don't know of any better way to decide a close race. But Loyer will be the worst of the four in college, and wasn't the best in high school. I thought it was Dejulius, who destroyed Loyer head-to-head.
Thank you for congratulating me on making an accurate prediction in a thread of interest to you! Follow me for more accurate predictions and associated witticisms!
(actually don't follow me I rarely tweet and it's really just an account to read and like things)
Coaches vote on this...
Its an award sponsored and given by the BCAM.( basketball coaches assn of Mich) So I guess your conspiracy theory holds.
Meh. Honestly could have picked any of the top 3 players and it would be a good choice. Someone has to win.
So why such a huge margin of victory?
That little twerp wrecked my old high school in the state finals last year.
As long as DeJulius destroys Loyer in future years to come (as he already did this past year), I don’t really care. We know we got the kid we want! Not to mention the kid who finished second... not too shabby
DeJulius will certainly bury this deep in his gut and let it drive him for years.
The outrage! Harrumph! Harrumph!
Loyer winning doesnt bother me. Like someone else said, Towns and Dejulius are likely to be better college players. Don't see this as a huge injustice.
Who he?
he's awesome!
My dumb Monday brain converted Brandon Johns to former recruit Seth Towns who ended up at Harvard.
More imaginary bullets and ribbons coming.
loyer is a stud he deserved it.
i don’t follow hs bball much, but he got owned when he played dejulius head to head. not sure about the rest of his season though
hit 9 three pointers in three quarters in their district game last week.
This is like naming sparty the best dunking team of the tournament. It's nice, I guess.
shot blocking. National media experts like dunking, shot blocking and HOF coaches.
I've always had huge respect for Dan Fife. Good guy. Great coach. I can remember watching us beat Flint Northern when they had Cleaves. It was the most ridiculous victory I've ever seen. Our 6'3" center matching up against 6'10... 5 stars vs nobodies... It was all coaching that won.
That's why I'm suprised Fife wouldn't have talked him away from MSU... Good luck to the kid, but bad move IMO. I'm wondering if that might be the last of the star struck recruits Izzo can milk out of his reputation? Loyer was really fun to watch, but judging from the last three years of MSU talent squandering, he won't improve much with the Fight'n Larry Nassars.
as a Clarkston grad, I would assume you would know that Dan's brother is the top assistant coach at State. I'm guessing blood trumps.
Dane is Dan's son (not brother), and was the last Clarkston player to win Mr. Basketball back in '98. Dan and Dane's brother Duggan both played at Michigan, but Dane went to IU and captained the Hoosiers to the Championship game in '02 before they fell to Maryland.
Spurning the Wolverines for IU was bad enough (not sure what his recruitment was like but it would be hard for me to believe that UM wasn't after an in-state Mr. Basketball winning legacy), but going Sparty was worse.
Dane is dead to me now... Lol. I'm betting he is also job hunting... That's why I'm still suprised papa Fife would send him there. What a dumpster fire.
I'm wondering if Dane might have had something to do with the Jackson benching... I seem to remember some rumors that Jackson told him to suck his wang during the last Michigan game?
Loyer to MSU was a done deal long before Izzo found himself in this current pot of hot water. My guess is that Dane was/is angling for heir apparent.
Hi Frank. 04.02.2018. GO BLUE!
1. Dugan
2. Dan
Getting hit by a car
3. Dane
Did you know that Dane beat out none other than Antonio Gates for Mr. Basketball in 1998? Learned that fun fact today.
that's what I meant
I would assume you know they are brothers
He is very deserving of this award. Seen him play numerous times. He can shoot it. I have no doubt in my mind DD will be a much better college player. I guess the writers didn’t want to embarrass Izzo by giving it to a Michigan commit two years in a row.
Wasn't Loyer the kid that the MHSSA suspended for the season because they said his family moved just so he could transfer to play somewhere else? I mean, clearly, I have the name wrong... But who was that kid - I believe he (whoever 'he' is) was also suppsoed to be an MSU lean. Thought it was Loyer, but probably not...
You're thinking of Thomas Kithier.
vote.
I think DeJulius and Johns split those votes and DeJulius early exit from the tourney hurt him.
You do realize that the high school coaches vote on this right?
Foster loyer is the most punchable name ever.
Yeah, it does kinda scream 'DOUCHEBAG', doesn't it? (Or is it douche canoe, now? I'm confused...) If he's not sporting the manbun, he's missing a calling.
Then watch Dejulius play with a chip and abuse him ala Isiah Thomas v john Stockton post Dream Team announcement.
is set to do a four year term under Izzo.
Johns and Dejulius will win B1G championships instead.
Not sure he is going to see any minutes for Izzo, since Winston has 2 more years. I am sure he wil get relegated to "weird guys" status before too long for Izzo.
Ha! Just googled Loyer. He looks just like the guy who played Luther in 48 Hours and "Warriors come out and plaaayaaay," from The Warriors. That actor was cast specifically for his incredibly punchable face. Epic taunting potential.
He looks like every Indiana player under Bobby Knight: sallow skin and sunken eyes. Plus the fact that he’s apparently a good shooter? Perfect fit.
is deserving of the award. Great career/season stats and team results. Analogy. Was Trey Burke the #1 draft pick in 2013? Nope. Not even close. Did he deserve all those awards. Yep. Every one.
Watched him play a few times. He’s all that at Cheatston High typically playing bad OAA Teams.
That being said, MSU can have Drew Neitsel, I-mean Foster Loyer. He’s probably going to get destroyed in college. He’s really short and not that quick. Shooting with 2 D1 Athletes 6-10inches taller than the schlubs he plays now will be a challenge for the little fella i wish him all the best in the NIT next year
Agreed about the size, but his quickness on film looks decent to me.
Sparty needs all the Loyers it can get.
Sometimes you are rewarded with this kind of awesome when you keep scrolling down the page. Well done, sir.
Who the fuck cares? Congrats on your high school award. Welcome to the big leagues and you better bring yo damn game
I see a lot of little brother type takes here. Big deal. We own them and will for the next several years.
...that he will follow in the footsteps of his high school coach and become a forgotten college player.
well, except dane fife was at least 6'-3". this dude is 6'-0"
