Moe and Duncan - both could reach 1000 points today

Submitted by hailtothevictors08 on

Moe and Duncan could both get to 1,000 points today, joining MAAR (1176 overall) who reached it earlier this season with his huge free throws against Maryland at home.

I obviously know the team result is bigger. However, 1000 points is a cool career accomplishment and seeing as there is an outside chance of both getting there today, I figured it was worth a board topic.

Duncan has 993, so he needs 7. (402 r. soph, 291 jr., 300 this year)

Mo has 972, so he needs a huge game with 28, but it is doable. (86, 458, 428).

For context, according to MGOBLUE, (which looks like it was last updated at some point in the last 2 seasons because it refers to zak irvin as a current player and doesn't have walton listed). It would appear, that 1000 points (Wayman Britt) would be our 52nd top scorer now that MAAR and Walton have passed him.

If this season continues on for a few games, it is not totally out of the question that this team will have 3 top 50 scorers of all time for the program (need 1041 total). Seems cool to me.

Moe, MAAR, and Duncan have been so important in helping reinvent this program after the disastrious 2015 season. Going to miss them after they graduate/go pro.

the program has been pretty dramatically reinvented.  Started hiring defensive coordinators and putting emphasis on that side of the ball.  Are playing a LOT more agressively on defense such that we've seen major gains in opponent eFG% (by far the best this year under Beilein) and TO's caused with the tradeoff being more fouls committed.

We're putting a much bigger emphasis on rebounding such that we're an elite (!!) defensive rebounding team, now.

Interestingly, MAAR, Robinsin and Wagner are all guys that were recruited for the "old" system and have really had to work to adapt as they're all offense first guys and they've done a good job of making the most out of their talents on the defensive side of the ball. Wagner's defensive rebounding, in particular, has been a revelation this year.

Bringing in guys like Z, Matthews, Livers and Teske who are all defense-first guys was what marked the "reinvention" of our recruiting and what we looked for in players.
