Michigan Offers Julian Barnett, with a Twist?
The dead period is over, and one offer to go out today was for 2019 4Star in-state ATH/WR Julian Barnett out of Bellville (Same school of 5 star Devontae Dobbs). This is an interesting offer because of how long it took for the staff to extend it. Because of the slow play on michigans part and Barnetts lack of camping, he ended up committing to MSU. But, the twist in this offer was from Pass game coordinator Pep Hamilton who was the coach that offered him. Given the rumors of Pep possibly heading to the NFL, it would seem odd for him to be out recruiting. In the links below are 2 (VIP) twitter posts from Sam Webb. Although they are paywalled, the titles themselves are interesting enough, and provide a decent amount of information.

Pep is doing his job until he is offered/accepts another.

Good to see Pep working till he has another job. But I don't want Barnett and don't want Pep.

agreed

We don't want 3* players?
Nor do we want 4* players ranked 59th nationally?
Some in this fanbase are not easy to please.

“HE,” doesn’t want him! Lol. Toxic.

But, I hope everything works out for you and your family. Good luck with the little one.

Who in the NFL will give Pep a coordinator job? I don't think Pep is going anywhere. He has 3 yrs and over 3 million left on his contract, so he won't be fired, and unless someone matches that, which, after what he has done at Michigan and Cleveland doesn't seem very likely.
January 12th, 2018 at 6:45 PM ^
Spot on. No one is giving that conman a job. Jim needs to fire him
January 12th, 2018 at 7:33 PM ^
Yeah, I'm sure he conned Jim into giving him a job. Probably knows nothing about football.

Without the water. Some people only know they want Pep gone because of what they’ve heard without proof though, that Pep was in charge of the offensive concepts. When you have people calling for the mans job, when you know our oline was patchwork at best, is lunacy. With your third string QB, thrust into action. There’s no one on this board that could’ve done better. Wanna no why? Our own beloved, head coach couldn’t figure it out either. But Pep Hamilton was in charge of protecting the QB, to adapt to his pass schemes? Some people are a little ill in their manner of thinking. Success at any level and especially college level, you must have a functioning oline. No coordinator in the world could’ve fixed that!
January 12th, 2018 at 8:28 PM ^
In summary the passing game coordinator is not responsible for the passing game and no one could of done any better because of the O line.
January 12th, 2018 at 8:36 PM ^
People believe what they want to believe. I’ll say this to you. Today there have been people saying that Pep, should’ve adapted to the personnel that he was working with. A no brainer. However, in stating that fact they’re saying that even if the Prince of Wales was blocking. Pep Hamilton is at fault for having the worst passing numbers since our beloved Rick Leach. Hey whatever you feel is fine. I️ just laugh at some ideas because you just can’t have one without the other. It’s unfathomable how anyone can truthfully believe that $?)/

If you want to present a differing opinion that's great and can create some good discussion. But don't act like a dick in order to do so.
January 12th, 2018 at 10:16 PM ^
I️ love Michigan and I’m amazed at the hate that spues out on our board! It’s so, so, productive. Also, if you have any kids, please tell them as an example to make sure they do what you say do. Not the simple visual examples, you display daily.

If you don’t mind me asking, why do you care so much about and spend so much time defending Pep?
January 13th, 2018 at 9:29 AM ^
Random parenting advice? lol man I really hope you were drunk when you were posting all this crap.
January 12th, 2018 at 8:38 PM ^
that asking for someone that can coach better than anyone on the MGoBoard (as great as some of you may be) is asking too much
January 12th, 2018 at 6:53 PM ^
He's been highly-regarded before so sure there are still at least some who think the same today. I'm hardly a Pep stan but I'm sure he has his supporters. Who was going to light it up in Cleveland anyway?
Also Norv Turner just got hired as OC and Gruden got 100 mil in this the good year 2018. The NFL doesn't always require recent success.
January 12th, 2018 at 7:34 PM ^
Man people kill me with this Ole fake A$$ knowledge of everything attitude. You know more than Pep now? Lol
January 12th, 2018 at 7:42 PM ^
does get a little high around here at times
January 12th, 2018 at 7:45 PM ^
The post you responded to stayed that he/she didn't believe anyone in the NFL would give him a job given his lack of success at his last two stops. Never suggesting that he/she knew more than Pep (about football, life, nor quantum mechanics).
January 12th, 2018 at 8:17 PM ^
Attitude, means? Reread it please. And yes he knows that Pep would never be hired again. So, you’re correct he only stated that he would never be hired again in the NFL.(lol). Just as well as another poster stated earlier that everyone wanted Pep gone. I’m not sure if you understand some of the words but everyone in here has not expressed that they wanted him gone. Sorry about the conjecture.
January 12th, 2018 at 8:26 PM ^
You seem hostile.
January 12th, 2018 at 8:29 PM ^
Oh boy.
January 13th, 2018 at 12:52 AM ^
It's an epidemic! I just had to school some hillbilly about mental health in the other thread. He didn't understand how his actions could negatively affect others. But he also didn't go to michigan so there's always that.

Steve!
January 12th, 2018 at 6:41 PM ^
So we have Pep out recruiting when everyone wants him gone and he’s entertaining returning to the NFL but we can’t finalize a deal for Partridge and get our best recruiter out there? Not to mention we are offering someone we should have offered quite a while ago. With the last few weeks of recruiting upon us I just can’t help but shake my head at what’s going on. The offense needed a major overhaul, not bring in a wr coach and a tight end coach and jack with the defensive side of the ball
January 12th, 2018 at 6:47 PM ^
He’s a 2019 recruit so we have over a year to work on him.
January 12th, 2018 at 6:54 PM ^
I think Partridge is waiting out a DC job. If he gets it, gone, if not stays.
January 12th, 2018 at 7:36 PM ^
It's been stated by insiders on other boards that Partridge already has a DC offer on the table and he's still deciding between staying or taking it.
January 12th, 2018 at 9:04 PM ^
so we are losing Don Brown?
January 13th, 2018 at 6:17 AM ^
DC offer would be from another school, as the speculation goes.
January 12th, 2018 at 8:56 PM ^
WTF? Are MGoBlog users the definitive answer to which coaches MUST go and who can stay?
LMFAO!
January 12th, 2018 at 6:44 PM ^
Sux. We’re screwed
January 12th, 2018 at 7:03 PM ^
Is eligible and we adapt the offense to fit him or yes we are screwed. When you keep the same coaches it usually means you are going to run the same shit
January 12th, 2018 at 9:05 PM ^
well, we ditched Frey, so OL can rep power instead of wasting all Spring on a scheme that will be scrapped mid year.
January 12th, 2018 at 6:46 PM ^
I would think Gruden wants his staff to come together quickly and get a head start on other teams who have yet to even hire a head coach. While it is not definite, it is starting to look like both Pep & Drevno will be back.
January 12th, 2018 at 7:04 PM ^
But I'd be thrilled if both Pep and Drev stick around. Give the young players another year in the same system with a dedicated WRs coach and I think the offense will take a huge step forward next year. It's crazy to me how many people disregard the impact of coaching stability and simultaneously complain about how stunted our team's development has been since coach Carr retired.
January 12th, 2018 at 8:59 PM ^
We hear people opine about how much better players will perform after time in a system but in the next breath wanting to CHANGE that system.
January 12th, 2018 at 9:37 PM ^
Please tell me you have more of a life than tracking individual users' views for contradictions.
January 12th, 2018 at 10:31 PM ^
It was meant to be a generalization.
I think - in general - that the board respects the value of multiple years in the same system.
Likewise - in general - a significant portion of this board is screaming for changes.
That’s my point. Sure, I don’t know that those 2 groups truly ever intersect. But I didn’t realize anyone was going to fact check!
And yes, my life is fuller and more rewarding than you’d probably guess. Hope yours is the same!
January 12th, 2018 at 9:30 PM ^
I don't think we are getting a dedicated WR coach. I think it will be Pep's or Enos's jurisdiction. If we keep Pep, Drevno, and Partridge do we have room for more coaches?
January 12th, 2018 at 6:53 PM ^
And Why the fuck does Pep still have a job?
